One thing about Twitter is that it lends itself to quantitative analysis. Over a short time, it can convey a snapshot of how a thin but important slice of the public is reacting to events. It seems especially noteworthy that Barack Obama, who famously marshaled social media in support of his 2008 campaign, has now become something of a laughingstock on Twitter. The Hill does the math with respect to Obamas recent bus trip through the Midwest:
Obamas Midwest tour last week prompted more criticism and ridicule than support on Twitter, according to this weeks Hill Hexagon.
An analysis of Twitter traffic by Crimson Hexagon over the days of the tour showed that 72 percent of the opinions expressed were negative, while 22 percent were neutral and only 6 percent were favorable.
Among the negative comments, 21 percent were generally negative toward Obama, 17 percent called it a campaign stunt, 15 percent complained about taxpayers picking up the tab, 12 percent offered derisive names for the tour similar to GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romneys Magical Misery Tour and 6 percent complained that he was not in Washington working.
An unfavorable/favorable ratio of 72%-6%? That is brutal. If people on Twitter can be assumed to be a leading indicator, this is one more in a long series of bad omens for the Obama administration.
JOE adds: The power of Twitter to agglomerate and measure public sentiment cannot be denied. Consider Derwent Capital Markets, the hedge fund with a $39 million Twitter-driven index thats using the social network to pick stocks.
I bet the support among blacks explains most if not all of the difference.
Still, Carter had a 33% approval rating at this stage vs. Obama’s current 42%, FWIW, if anything...

Yes, but the demographic was much different. Add in all the tens of millions of ILLEGAL MEXICANS and African-Americans that have been encouraged by Obama, and his ilk, to become professional victims and racists....you have the difference.
Don’t worry, it’s early and the fundraising machine is still getting warmed up. The pro-Obama astro-tweeting campaign will begin soon.
Based on a clear understanding the mentality and methods of the O-bots, look for the SEIU and MoveOn.org to organize Obama-tweeting boiler rooms where workers with names like “Peggy” will tweet nonstop their praise for the Dear Leader and the glories of his Socialist Revolution.
The OJ jury. 0bama is murdering our nation and they are ok with it because he is “one of them”.
Obama is at 38%, according to Gallup. That puts him up only 5pts ahead of Carter.
a ping for number crunchers, aficionados of stats and intriguing new analytical methods, and others ...
You are not kidding. In my local paper a Gannet paper the Journal news every day there is some liberal spewing the latest talking point in the letters section. Some even have a cut and paste Bush is so bad, reply to anyone that disagrees. This is the New York Hudson Valley but I find it hard to believe these people are for real.
Thanks for the ping. Interesting how Obama can get immediate feedback and take corrective action if he so deems. You know that his staff is doing this in addition to focus groups and polls.
“It seems especially noteworthy that Barack Obama, has now become something of a laughingstock.....”
It’s not that noteworthy to anyone that actaully uses their brain...
Twitter is RACIST!
How Tweet it is!
This is possibly the most significant indicator of why Zero cannot win re-election of any poll number I’ve seen, including those with him at 38%. What this says is that he has officially become a joke, not a person to be taken seriously. He has lost the “Social Media” that he owned in 08.
I try to do my share of negative tweets.
“Its not that noteworthy to anyone that actaully uses their brain...”
