Camp Lejeune, NC here. Have batteries, flashlights, candles. Plenty of water and food. It has been raining for hours, and the wind is starting to pick up. We have everything packed in case, but hopefully we won’t need it. We live off base, but not far, so we shall see. There is a curfew in effect starting at midnight for Onslow County. I will try to keep posting updates as long as the wifi holds out. So far no loss of power or cable.

Interesting you mention that...there is a discussion going on at AccuWeather forums about the likelihood that they "exaggerating" the wind speed in order to "maintain public awareness and interest' in the storm.

Really?

Hi from Litchfield Cty - in NW CT - supposedly to be under the eye of the storm...we shall see. I bought a case of bottled water today and a couple of big candles - all the stores were out of C and D batteries. Planning to spend the night at the hospital where I work on Saturday night if things get really bad...

Had the marina on the Chesapeake pull the boat out today and put her on jackstands. Also had the canvas taken down so she would not become a kite. We gave the ok for a neighbor horse owner to bring 2 ponies to our barn for shelter. All outside furniture put away. Flags will be taken down when wind kicks up. My fingers are crossed.

I’m in northern New Jersey (Summit area), and my sense is that the dangers related to wind and high surf are probably a bit exaggerated (storm is more likely to track to the east, and will probably not even be a hurricane by the time it reaches here) . . . but the 5-10 inches of rain is a very serious concern all over this area. We’ve had a lot of rain in recent days, and inland river/stream flooding is the biggest threat here.

Irene will track about fifty miles to my west late Sunday. Still time to hit the liquor store tomorrow...with New Hampshire’s Clusterf*ck Electric on the job, I will need the booze to keep me calm.

Located in South Jersey.

Prep to date. Moved patio furniture to barn.

Planned prep. Run around in circles and scream like a girl if the news shows don’t stop warning me I may die.

Southern New England here. Went to the grocery store today,it was mobbed.

Bought raw fruit, raw veggies, crackers to go with peanut butter on hand, junk food goodies, water, cat food and litter. Was hard to find batteries, but got some at an auto supply store for battery operated lantern and lighters for candles. Also some beer and wine at the package store.

Had other stuff like canned tuna, sardines, smoked oysters, peanuts, almonds, raisins, canned goods, cereal bars, bread already.

God bless us all and keep us safe.

I’m in Essex County, NJ — about 12 miles from NYC, the way the birds fly.

Have just about all the things that have been mentioned, plus extra kerosene for our lamps. We have 5 of them. Also, even tho we have a generator, I don’t like using it for long as it is so noisy. I’m making ice packs to put in the refrig so that we don’t have to have the generator on for long periods.

Also I have 2 extra recharged batteries for my B’ Berry. If the computer is down, I’ll still be able to get here. Also have battery operated radios and a short wave.

There is a white oak above the house but it is not as tall as the other trees in the area. Hope it wants to live.

Don’t forget pet food and litter!

We are going to put coolers of water in the bathtubs so as to have flushing water handy. Hopefully the plumbing will be OK.

We are going to lower the pool water about a foot, so as not to have to lower it if it overfills from the 4 to 8 inches of rain expected. We are in a wooded area and there is no way I’ll let DH go out to lower it.

Because of all the “what if” threads on preparation, we have plenty of food and batteries. No guns, tho as in NJ it is difficult to get them. But I do have NRA stickers on many windows and doors.LOLOL!

I been thru quite a few so get the following :

1. Ice - fill up everything in-case the power goes out the food spoils
2. Fill up the butane on the grill
3. Batteries for radio and flash light
4. Candles
5. Need an old phone that does not require power
6. Buy baby wipe in case the boil water notice is posted and you need to bathe
7. Fill up the car just in-case and any other
gas tank you have . The new gas pumps are all electric and do not work without power.
8 canned food tuna etc..
9 remove all the clutter in the yard and safe guard the grill.
10 Don't drink to heavily .
11 fill the tubs and sinks in-case you need to use the JOHN.

good luck
