Firearm sales up in 2011

The record number of firearm background checks performed by the FBI this year signals that gun sales are on the rise in Ohio, an increase that gun-rights advocates and local store owners attribute largely to political and economic fears.

Meanwhile, even though the number of concealed handgun licenses issued to Miami Valley residents fell in 2010, firearm groups said 2009 was a record year and the popularity of carrying continues to trend upward.

During the first seven months of this year, the FBI conducted 247,847 background checks for firearm purchases at gun sellers in the state, up 17.7 percent from the same period in 2010, 9.2 percent from 2009 and 42.4 percent from 2008, according to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.

Background checks are one of the best measures of gun sales because federally licensed gun-sellers are required to perform them during a sale. Not all checks lead to purchases, but most do.

The only thriving areas of the economy are guns, ammo, safes, freeze dried food and generators.

So much for Hope.

But it certainly is “Change”.

Not that I ever wanted that kind of change.

Don't forget gold, silver.

Oh, and sales of Mexican imported illegal drugs are way up, too.

“in July alone, 21,000 guns were sold in Alabama. To put that number in perspective, 4 years ago, Alabama gun sales hit just over 14,000. Since 2008, gun sales have steadily climbed each year. You may think people are purchasing guns for safety. While that’s true, it’s not the main reason. The economy is causing firearm sales to soar. The number of FBI background checks preformed this year alone is at a record high number.”

Same story different details...about 4 threads up....

Many fear the Government more than the criminals.

I fear being on the wrong side of the ratio of the incompetence and slowness of emergency response, to the quality of the criminal elements execution.

I fear both. We have seen a dramatic upswing of property crimes here. Not violent yet, but won’t happen to this household without a fight.

The criminal class is being empowered by the current government.

If Obama is defeated in 2012, I believe there will be rioting in most major cities.

They will riot on the mere RUMOR of an obama defeat during election day.

Obama's legacy:

Americans are going to have a rough time if he wins in 2012.
Americans are going to have a rough time if he loses in 2012.

There will probably be riots in major cities regardless of how the election turns out in 2012.

Vengeance or Victory celebration? Either way there will be an excuse for certain people to get out and have some fun.

The only questions will be: how far do the rioters make it into the suburbs, and how long will police delay before attempting effective suppression measures.

If recent news is any guide, the first individual self defense initiatives will be promptly squelched by the police along with bland reassurances and excuses from the political authorities. Only as the damages, injuries, and other incidents accumulate will the police be directed to do anything else.

It would be prudent to make various preparations. I am working on cardio myself.

Run away was always my first choice right up until I married and now have a baby. The diaper bag holds my "winter carry" and extra mags nicely.

The Government's bankrupting the country - there's not much we can do about that - except vote in new people when the time comes. Hope it won't be too late...
