Seeing Irene as Harbinger of a Change in Climate
New York Times ^ | August 28, 2011 | Justin Gillis

Posted on 08/28/2011 5:53:40 AM PDT by Jim Noble

The scale of Hurricane Irene, which could cause more extensive damage along the Eastern Seaboard than any storm in decades, is reviving an old question: are hurricanes getting worse because of human-induced climate change?

The short answer from scientists is that they are still trying to figure it out. But many of them do believe that hurricanes will get more intense as the planet warms, and they see large hurricanes like Irene as a harbinger....

All the news that's fit to print."

I have to laugh every time I see those TV ads for the NYT Weekender. To me, the NYT no longer is a paper with "award winning journalists" but rather represents an unnecessary denuding of the nation's forests.

Just remember - most journalists know little about anything except the mechanics of story writing (and apparently quite a few didn’t study hard enough to learn that either). Reading anything a journalist writes, other than those things that are pure reporting, is like listening to your grandmother talk about ‘string theory’.

These junk science idiots equate weather to water heating in a pot - the more heat, the more the water moves. Real scientists, who paid attention in fifth grade, know that is nonsense. The phenomenon known as ‘weather’ is caused by differentials in pressure and temperature. Meaning that, if the poles are warming up quicker than the equator (according to these idiots), we should get fewer and less intense weather events.

They have probably had this story waiting for several years. Irene is the first hurricane to make landfall on the North American continent since 2008. Yeah, that climate change is sure playing havoc with the weather.

These globull warming idiots are too stupid to realize the basic principle that atmospheric instability comes from cooler temps aloft, not warmer.....

One only has to look up historic hurricanes to see just how silly the Times article is.

One only has to see the article is from the Slimes to see just how silly any article is.

Probably the worst hurricane I remember that I was in was Agnes in the early 1970s.

Hurricane Bob was the most annoying, since a falling tree broke the support wire for my power lines, yanking meter and conduit away from the house. We still had power, via the fallen lines, for a couple of days, but it did cost a couple of hundred to have the meter/conduit fixed, but the power company wouldn't have fixed the service, otherwise.

But many of them do believe that hurricanes will get more intense as the planet warms

The presupposition that climate change is HUMAN induced is the very thing that's disgraceful. Whether or not the climate is changing is never the question. The climate is always changing. It is seasonal; not only during a single year but also along the lines of decades, centuries, millenia and so forth. Changes in sun spot frequency, and less frequently the orbit of the earth around the sun, are just two of many physical reasons that the earth's climate changes. We have no control over it. And it is not human induced.

Disingenuous seudo-scientists like AL Gore, are more interested in pushing their agenda than seeking and presenting the truth. And I condemn any and all of the scientists, as frauds, who sit and follow suite with Al Gore and those of his ilk. But by far, the worst of all, are the reporters, writers and so-called journalists who spew this propaganda.

“Hurricane” Irene may not become much of a concern to those in the Northeast; however, there is one distinction this storm will undoubtedly earn - that is, it is by far the most hyped rain storm in the past fifty years.

Yes, I see the connection now. It’s not just Republicans who are directly at fault, it’s the tax code.

There are an average of about 100 tropical cyclones (Tropical Storms, Hurricanes, Typhoons, Tropical Cyclones) every year. That number has not significantly wavered since accurate records have been kept.
