Rick Perry has Distanced Himself from George W. Bush's Brand of Conservatism
Washington Post ^ | August 29, 2011 | Perry Bacon Jr.

Posted on 08/29/2011 6:46:20 AM PDT by DRey

Texas Gov. Rick Perry, like most of the other the GOP presidential hopefuls, says his campaign is about undoing the decisions of President Obama. But Perry also presents a stark alternative to the last Republican to occupy the White House, his fellow Texan George W. Bush.

In his writings and speeches before he entered the race, Perry shared the view, widely held among conservatives, that Bush’s government spending habits in office were a betrayal of the GOP’s core fiscal principles. But Perry went further, dismissing “compassionate conservatism,” the central tenet of Bush’s domestic policy, as just more overreach by the federal government.

Oh, I know. I was commenting on his “rage” factor. I can’t believe how the tone has been lowered of late. What happened to the flamers?

It doesn’t mean the Washington Post has suddenly become honest. It means the Washington Post has picked the guy they want for the Republican nominee, and that guy is Rick Perry.

That!

Personally I think people should take a long hard look at your posting record before believing anything coming from you.

Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner. At this point any body looks good. But I will still hope for Sarah. But we are doing what we do every election. We fight amongst ourselves.. And not just disagree but there are people getting nasty to one another. US Conservatives need to stick together. If it means taking a guy that is conservative in most area we believe in then so be it. But we need to end this Obama disaster. If he is re-elected America is through. I should say “if there is an election”.

You are a fool, because you are crediting people (liberals) with an ability to reason of which they, as proven by their beliefs, are just not capable.

The media HATES Rick Perry and they fear him more than they do Sarah, because he is the one conservative they know can get elected, whereas she cannot (at this time).

Liberals will always tell you who they fear the most by their attacks and the hysteria surrounding them. They feared Sarah when she first appeared and they still do, but not as much as Perry. Perry is the new threat and he is a juggernaut that they know, as weakened as Obama is from his failures, cannot be stopped.

Please provide a source for your assertion that he supported TARP and raising the debt ceiling.

I say he supported neither:

“We are fed up with bailout after bailout and stimulus plan after stimulus plan, each one of which tosses principle out the window along with taxpayer money. We can’t even keep up with all the spending, be it the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), the auto industry bailout, the AIG bailout, or President Obama’s failed $787 billion ‘Recovery Act.’ The list goes on and on.” “Fed Up!” page 5

“But I have no doubt the establishment class would prefer Rick Perry over Sarah Palin,...”

Have you seen any of the polls on Palin, or Perry Vs Obama?

Palin gets crushed and Perry wins. The polls may well be off, or cooked, but if the MSM believes the polls, there is no freaking way they want Perry to get the nomination.

Importantly, instead of fretting about “compassionate conservatism”, which George W. Bush did, in some impressive ways, put into practice, what is far more to the point is the downside to the absolute monster he created, with “high security state conservatism.”

That is, with the Patriot Act and other enabling legislation, W. Bush deleted more constitutional personal liberty and freedom in the United States than any president since Frank Roosevelt.

Though his intent *may* have been against terrorism, only either incredible naivete, or abject paranoia and lust for authoritarianism, could have resulted in such a surfeit of laws, almost NONE of which prevent terrorism, but are applied exclusively to the honest citizenry of the United States.

That is, if the entire Patriot Act, and all the related legislation was eliminated right now, America would be just as safe from terrorism, but we would lose vast amounts of unconstitutional “wartime” oppression of all American citizens.

Yet instead, the “intelligence-police-state” has grown by leaps and bounds, with not just disdain, but fear and contempt for all forms of personal freedom and privacy. Obama, for his part, has allowed this insane expansion of police state voyeurism to continue to grow, unchecked.

To hell with it!

America does not need 16 federal intelligence agencies and 50-100 federal police agencies, with agencies like the department of Education kicking down doors using SWAT tactics, along with most any other agency that wants to do that.

I am indifferent to whatever dementia created this nightmare. Instead, I want Republican candidates to say “enough already”, and promise to scrub the vast majority of this worthless and oppressive authoritarian regime.

The terrorists are “over there”, with just a miniscule number “here”, and most of them long known to the police. So take the WoT “over there”. Don’t force us to live barricaded in our homes, not out of fear of terrorists, but out of abject terror from the steroid-crazed, gun happy, dog killing, door smashing, warrantless terror that our police state nation has become.

The government needs to save money. Eliminating 95% of this crapola is a great place to start.

...Supposedly. I remember all the Bush apologists back then on FR. The mantra was "better than". A lot of other folks were saying, Better than WHO? "UUuhhh, Clinton? If you don't like Bush, why don't you get out of here and go to DU and maybe you'd be happier there!!! Wonder how many FReepers wish they could go back and expunge that history! Not ashamed of mine! Same thing in '08'. McCain better than BHO? Guess we can all agree with that...

...Point is, don't hate those on FR that don't vote D OR R. They don't come back screaming, "TOLD YOU SO"!!!...

...End of Story...

“Even Palin says we can’t deport them all.”

YOU shut off their MONEY,Then they self deport,Is that hard to understand? Now the ones like Perry who turn a blind eye are benefiting from this or they would act.

That is PUNISH their Employers with Jail and loss of license!

That is what she has said....

I say: Let them self deport is the solution...ALL US government goodies cease....the flood gates entering Mexico would have to be opened to get the millions out of here. Once, the wetbacks have left set up tight control of the border and if they would like to work here give them work permits...NO US GOVERNMENT GOODIES...ever again.
