Warren Jeffs, the polygamous sect leader and convicted child rapist, is in a coma and may not survive, a source close to Jeffs tells ABC News.
Jeffs, 55, had been fasting for the past three days and became so weak that doctors at the Texas prison where he is serving a life sentence induced a coma, according to the source.
The leader of a radical polygamist sect of Mormonism known as the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints (FLDS), Jeffs is scheduled to go on trial a second time in October to face charges of first-degree bigamy. Conviction would be punishable by up to 99 years or life in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
Jeffs was moved last Tuesday to a solitary cell at the Powledge Unit in Palestine, Texas, because of the large amount of media coverage surrounding his case, prison officials said.

Hmmm? He fasted three days and they induced a coma?
Now they expect him to die?
Can you say murder under the color of law?
"Induced coma" is code for drug stupor.
Why would you give drugs to a person who is in a weakened state?
Something is not passing the smell test here.
Sounds like he was “Dahmered.”
Being a prophet isn’t enough? Now he wants to be Gandhi!
a source close to Jeffs tells ABC News.
Do you have proof for your mindless accusations? Or don’t we need proof since we are on the big bad internet.
It sounds like to me that he deliberately did that to himself so he wouldn’t have to serve his sentence.
I have absolutely no proof.
Apparently I missed the memo that the internet now bans speculation, would you be so kind as to forward me a copy?
A three day fast and he is now in a coma...NO WAY...wonder if inmates had a part in this...shoving drugs down him.
He gets his own planet right? The Mormon promise of a whole planet to do with as you please beats the Muslim promise of 72 virgins.
And Jeffs is Joseph Smith's true disciple. He has done exactly what Joseph Smith did. Claimed to be a prophet and used his self announced status to marry a bunch of women and children, in contradiction to what Genesis and the New Testament say.
My guess is that he would have resisted an IV drip, so they had to put him out in order to rehydrate him. Fwiw.
Yeah, that doesn't make any sense at all. There's something they aren't telling us.
You don't starve to death in three days.
And the world rejoices.....
Unless he’s fasting from water too. No water will cause death much sooner; although in a coma after three days sounds very unlikely unless he was extremely malnourished already.
My guess is there is a difference between sedating and inducing a coma. YMMV.
Put a plastic bag over his head to aide his breathing.
If this is how it went down then they got some real problems. You don’t induce a coma except in very extreme circumstances, and I don’t think three days of fasting qualifies.
awww, I am torn, pump some fluids into him and force him to live, or just let him go.....justice either way, cheaper to let him go.....such a dilemma.
If he also denied himself water over those same three days, then maybe.
Bobby Sands lasted about 60 days.
So you can stick a tube down his throat and feed him and hydrate him without him fighting or causing trauma. Now why the state of Texas should want to incur the expense, boggles the mind!
The heart, soul, and essence of ObamaCare.
I sure hope he is suffering mightily
Typically when a person fasts, or someone goes on a hunger strike, they continue to ingest fluids.
Three days without hydration is very dangerous, three days without nutrition usually isn't.
If they can induce a coma against his will then I would think they could also insert an IV against his will.
And he IS going to die on their watch, it's just a question of when.
Good question. Almost like an "assisted suicide".
His pervo deluded cult gets their martyr that much sooner.
But I do agree sumpin’ ain’t right here. *sniff*
Just heard on local radio that he was hospitalized in Tyler due to this “hunger strike”. Wrong place for him to get much sympathy.
Turn him back into General Population, hunger will be the least of his worries.
Morrow said the WORST thing Perry ever did was to prosecute Jeffs.
We need no better reason to support Perry than this.
“source close to Jeffs” pretty much means this is crap
No, they induced a coma so they could save him by putting in a feeding tube without him tearing it out. They would have served us better by doing nothing and not wasting our tax dollars on the monster.
I watched the coverage of his trial on InSession. Cameras were not allowed in the court room, but there were reporters in the court room who reported the testimony.
This pervert not only “married” 12 year old girls, but he raped his nieces who were around 6 or 7 when it happened.
He also raped his pre-teen nephews.
He broke up over 300 families — sending the wives to other husbands.
He had 79 wives, a quarter of whom where underage.
He had everyone living in the compound bring their pet dog to him and he killed the pet, or had someone else do it by slashing their throats.
He had underage girls participate in group sex acts in the baptismal.
When he was caught, he had a tape of himself raping a 12 year old, in his car.
I am not making this up. This monster deserves to die a LONG, PAINFUL death, however the Spirit living within me tells me to pray for him to repent and ask Christ for forgiveness.
Hence the caveat. I suspect this is a disgruntled supporter trying to inject some slander and hopes it goes viral.
Maybe he turned Muslim and thought it was still Ramadan???
Well then he's doing it wrong, since you can eat after the sun goes down, during Ramadan.
This is Jeffs manipulating the cult by any means necessary to keep them believing he is another mormon prophet in the manner of Joseph Smith. I'm sure there is a power play ongoing within the FLDS over who will take Jeffs place, and he is determined to rule from prison. This is a play for sympathy for him and a way to undercut any successor.
I’d rather see him suffer for another 30 years but the flip side is having to spend tax money to house him.
Yes, I hadn’t thought of that...3 days without water...could put you in a coma...I am surprised the Prison system didn’t watch that closer...the water intake.
Three day fast - coma - BS.
Yep. And I will not mourn his passing.
I will mourn yet another nail in the coffin of legal proceedings.
I would have absolutely no problem with a person being executed, provided they got a fair and honest trial, conviction and sentence.
I do have a major problem with someone who is politically inconvenient being ‘Jim McDougaled’ by deliberate medical malpractice, that crosses the line between justice and totalitarian revenge/murder.
It’s a very slippery slope, allowing one’s enemies to be liquidated by the state. The state has no friends, save its own raw power.
