Henry Juszkiewicz, Chairman and CEO of Gibson Guitar Corp., has responded to the August 24 raid of Gibson facilities in Nashville and Memphis by the Federal Government. In a press release, Juszkiewicz said: "Gibson is innocent and will fight to protect its rights. Gibson has complied with foreign laws and believes it is innocent of ANY wrong doing. We will fight aggressively to prove our innocence."
Kafkaesque. Literally:
You go to the city to see the law. Upon arrival outside the building, there is a guard who says "You may not pass without permission", you notice that the door is open, but it closed enough for you to not see anything (the law). You point out that you can easily go into the building, and the guard agrees. Rather than be disagreeable, however, you decide to wait until you have permission.
You wait for many years, and when you're an old, shriveled wreck, you get yourself to ask:
"During all the years I've waited here, no-one else has tried to pass in to see the law, why is this?", and the guard answers:
"It is true that no-one else has passed here, that is because this door was always meant solely for you, but now, it is closed forever".
He then procceeds to close the door and calmly walk away.
Looks like Gibson Guitars are the guitars that conservatives need to be buying in the future.
Part of Zero’s continuing efforts in the area of unemployment. Thanks Son House.
To the CEO: Sir, this is still America. You don't have to prove a damn thing. The government has to prove you are guilty. You are presumed innocent unless they prove otherwise.
Oh, one more thing: if Gibson has violated the Lacey Act, so, perhaps, has Michelle Obama, who gave French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy a Gibson Hummingbird acoustic guitar with a rosewood fret. Maybe, when the time comes, she can share a cell with Mr. Juszkiewicz.
Now, that's cruel and unusual punishment for Mr. Juszkiewicz
I already have 3 Les Pauls (a 100% original 1956 Gold Top, a 1960 Custom, and a 1969 Standard), a 1970’s vintage J-50, a brand new J-200 Standard, and 2 pre-war Gibson Mastertone banjos. I feel the hankerin’ for more.
Presumed innocent? What planet are you from?
That was my question too. What rock has this guy been under?
Having said that, Gibson is now being forced to spend money to defend themselves.
Money they could be putting into their company.
While we are paying the lawyers who are trying to ruin them.We know which can hold out the longest, The taxpayer funded lawyers. There is no limit to what the government can spend to ruin this company, we have to wonder why Government is are doing this.
Nice! Thanks fer checkin’ in. Which one do you play the most? I’m partial to my Custom, the PAFs have a much better sound than the P90s on the Gold Top.
I dont have time for that...I have CRIMES to prosecute....Gibson is using Indian Rosewood(and might be using non union labor)
I would guess that Gibson employs Non-Union workers?
The way the arrogant, trigger-happy Feds swooped down and stole everything from Gibson Guitars, you’d think the raid was led by the BATF! Oh wait, maybe not...did they torch the building on the way out, or did they forget that step? Amateurs!
I use my 335 for any jams or so now days but from about 1990 to last year, it was a weekend workhorse. Just can’t carry that equipment anymore like I used to.
But it’s been a good run, been in weekend bands since 1965 (except Air Force time) when I bought my Melody Maker. That was replaced by the SG until it “cracked in 1990 and I bought the 335 S. The Melody Maker was new and the SG and 335 were used.
Oh yeah, I have a 1964 Gibson Scout Amp I bought that year new. Still sounds great. Had to do a little work on it about 5 years ago but still has “that sound”
Gibson's are great but they're not for everyone.
All Gibson's have a 'fairly large' Fretboard Radius (aka: Neck Radius) of about 11½" (iirc) This goes for their solid body Les Paul and SG, and semi-hollow bodies like the ES-335 and ES-345 BB King 'Lucille'.
For solid body playing like in Rock, Country or Blues that's HUGH compared to Fenders 9½" on their Strat and Tele. (the larger the Radius, the wider the neck & fretboard is at the Nut and it's also flatter.) And for some with smaller hands and fingers, like me, that gives you 'problems' (Or maybe its just my age now?).
On the other hand going to the semi-hollow body for Blues, the Gibson's 'wider' neck isn't a problem for me (Go figure?!?). But at my age I can't justify the price of a Gibson. So I got the best Gibson ES-335 clone I could find. A Washburn/Oscar Schmidt Delta King OE30, which natches the Gibby ES-335 in every dimension, look, and control. And in Cherry Red, just like the '59 Gibson ES-335 'Dot' I had in my youth.
But YES, any conservative that can afford a Gibson and play it, BUY ONE TODAY! Scores of REPUTABLE On-line Music Stores have them. (I like Sam Ash)
It used to be called the USA. Then it got swallowed up by a Black Hole of communism, indifference and complacency.
I know. This is a tactic used by every prosecutor from the local to the federal level: accuse the defendant and make them spend millions to defend themselves meanwhile hoping they'll take plea bargain. Remember the Duke Lacrosse players?
Planet USA used to be a great place.
"For solid body playing like in Rock, Country or Blues that's HUGH compared to Fenders 9½" on their Strat and Tele."
I like the fretboards on my solid bodies scalloped and with zero radius.
“Sir, this is still America. You don’t have to prove a damn thing. The government has to prove you are guilty. You are presumed innocent unless they prove otherwise. “
Not so! The action is “USA vs. Ebony Wood in Various Forms”, a legal artifice that makes it technically a civil case, not a criminal case. In a civil case, the Constitutional rights that would apply in a criminal case are not there for you.
If Civil why the search warrant signed by a Judge?
If Civil why the SWAT team approach?
If Civil where and when was the Civil Suit filed?
