Sarah Palin Appearance at Tea Party Rally in Iowa ‘No Longer Confirmed’
WSJ ^ | August 31, 2011 | Danny Yadron

Posted on 08/31/2011 8:11:56 AM PDT by markomalley

Sarah Palin canceled her Saturday appearance at a tea party rally in Indianola, Iowa, a person close the former Alaska governor told The Wall Street Journal.

The person cited “continual lying” from event organizers at Tea Party of America, including a recent mixup over whether former U.S. Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell of Delaware would also speak.

Ms. Palin is known for last-minute schedule changes that whipsaw supporters and media across the country. But the latest decision is puzzling. Ms. Palin’s speech at the rally was viewed as her most high-profile appearance of the summer, fueling speculation she was indeed plotting to run for the Republican presidential nomination.

Attendees were reportedly traveling from across the U.S. to attend the rally in Iowa, which holds the nation’s first nominating contest next year.

The former governor will now appear at a Friday event in Des Moines sponsored by the group Conservatives4Palin. It is currently scheduled for 8 p.m. at The Machine Shed Restaurant, though the location will probably have to be changed, the person close to Ms. Palin said. Ms. Palin is still scheduled to appear at a Tea Party Express tour stop Monday in New Hampshire.

Ms. Palin may still hold an event Saturday, the person said, though she has no firm plans. It’s also possible she could still attend the Indianola tea party rally, the person said.

The former governor’s team decided to back out Tuesday night after rally organizers re-invited Ms. O’Donnell to speak on stage. Organizers had booked Ms. O’Donnell, who lost her 2010 bid for a U.S. Senate seat from Delaware, to speak but quickly withdrew the invitation in an effort to avoid controversy.

Some FReeper pegged her real value a week or so ago....fundraising for the nominee. She’d bring in huge crowds and zillions of bucks.

Whatever Palin decides she will have an impact on this election and thereafter as well. I support her efforts either way ...run or not. She's a force to be reckoned with and few that can say otherwise....like it or not...it's what it is and she will fight for this country every inch of the way.

Interesting, my friend. I’ve been on this site for about 15 years longer than you. I’m NOT a troll. But I have to say that I agree with cuban leaf’s sentiments. I like Sarah Palin, she has a role to play in the political spectrum. She and DeMint probablydid more to hold Pubbies’ toes to the fire in the last round of elections. But I don’t think she is Presidential timber and think that there are others out there who have a better chance of getting elected. I hated the Cult of Obama and don’t care for the cult of Sarah much more.

“I agree with you that she wouldn’t be interested. But that’s making trouble where there isn’t any, because she won’t even be considered, let alone asked.”

To her being asked, that is something that again I don’t know if will happen or not. I do know, if FR is any barometer of her popularity.....that she has a very dedicated following that could wreck/sabotage any candidate she doesn’t endorse or worse opposes. So, in some way, if a candidate for the GOP wants to win...they will have to pay some form of “homage” to Sarah Palin. A token offering of the VP slot would be one possible way. Whether one likes Sarah Palin or not....she is a force to be reconed with.

14 months to the election and the chicken littles here act like it’s next week. Pathetic that “WAAAA!!!! IWANT IT NOWWWW!!! thinking has infected FR.

Considering the political attention span of the general public is about a week, the later she announces, the better. Let all the FR fair weather “supporters’ go carry Perry’s water now if they have so little faith IMO.

People. I talk to them. Lots of them. The number of republicans I’ve talked to that think she is an idiot is shocking.

I see approximately 10-12 people daily in my course of business. The dems appear confused. The republicans generally want o out of there. The conservatives are solidly Palin or Perry, with most accepting either.

Perhaps your impressions are more dependent on your location, or choice of friends.

This *new* TEA Party has been screwing around from the gitgo. They asked Sarah to appear and she accepted, and since then, rumor after rumor has been finding its way into the media. karl rove made his announcement that she was running based on rumors coming out of this tea party leadership who can’t seem to get their ducks in a row. Get a grip people. Palin is not the source of these problems.

She’s either not running or she’s trying to distance herself from the tea party given all the recent bad press the lying media has been spewing about them lately.

wait to hear from the Palin camp

Even then we need to remember that the field is hot right now and plays will be made to confuse and confound the opponets.

I think Palin is confident her supporters understand her plays well enough to hang tight while she navigates and manuvers at this point in the game of war.

There will be some who will throw in the towel...but those who stand fast while she does the footwork she determines necessary to reach her objective.

I agree, nothing infuriates the left than to have Sarah soaking up all the limelight. I say more power to her!

No it wasn’t. The polls predicted it. I just thought the polls HAD to be wrong. They were not. I was wrong and learned from it.

Exactly. Oddly enough, despite the yahoos who flog around on FR loudly proclaiming that polling is all cooked and none of it is "scientific," most reputable polling houses like Rasmussen, Gallup, and even PPP tend to be pretty consistently right.

It's just that FReepers often don't like the results of some polls, and therefore assume that they "must" be wrong/faked/cooked etc.

The biggest news is that we finally have people willing to admit that Christine O’Donnell is an idiot.

Her insurgent candidacy sent a great message, and citizen legislators should be welcomed and encouraged. But O’Donnell was lame, and proved it on Piers Morgan.

By the way, if Sarah does cancel this appearance, she officially becomes a Diva.

I am getting very impatient. She said she would decide whether or not she was running in September. I thought she would announce at this event. I am starting to feel jilted!

I think the money bet at this point is that she is going to stay home and raise her kids for another 8 years. Maybe she'll run for Senate. But she waited too long.

I have been at the forefront of pushing her as the nominee for the last 3 years. Perry is the logical choice at this time and as I said before, if she hasn't formally announced by this weekend, I'm going all in for Perry.

Start looking around for another candidate. Sarah Palin will be running in 2020. I don't think she's going to take the plunge now. She still has a couple of young kids to raise and a long career as a strong conservative voice. If she backs Perry in the primary, then she will be the front runner for the VP nominee. If she backs Romney, her political career will come to an abrupt halt.
