White House received emails about Fast and Furious gun-trafficking operation
Los Angeles Times ^ | September 2, 2011 | By Richard A. Serrano

Newly obtained emails show that the White House was better informed about a failed gun-tracking operation on the border with Mexico than was previously known.

Three White House national security officials were given some details about the operation, dubbed Fast and Furious. The operation allowed firearms to be illegally purchased, with the goal of tracking them to Mexican drug cartels. But the effort went out of control after agents lost track of many of the weapons.

The supervisor of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives operation in Phoenix specifically mentioned Fast and Furious in at least one email to a White House national security official, and two other White House colleagues were briefed on reports from the supervisor, according to White House emails and a senior administration official.

But the senior administration official said the emails, obtained Thursday by The Times, did not prove that anyone in the White House was aware of the covert "investigative tactics" of the operation.

"The emails validate what has been said previously, which is no one at the White House knew about the investigative tactics being used in the operation, let alone any decision to let guns walk," said the official.

” . . . might lead to extradiction of a US President and US Attorney General to Mexico to face prosecution for aiding and abetting drug cartels!”

Nice idea. I was thinking it might be nice to see an indefinite vacation for the two at GITMO, enjoying a few enhanced interrogation drinks together by the beach, but the diet, accomodations, room service, and hospitality might indeed befit them better in Mexico.

Attempts to subvert the 2nd Amendment are treason, as would be the aiding and abetting the armed forces of the cartels. Treason.

“Went out of control...”. Bullsh!t!!! There was never ANY effort to control or track these weapons. It is clear the ATF nor anyone else ever cared where they went as long as the first step was toward Mexico.

You know, that is a good question.

BUT, were THAT the case, wouldn’t you THINK the mainstream media would be discrediting him? Since they are pretty much IGNORING him and going after other candidates, MOST PARTICULARLY PERRY, it would seem to me that, now, as in the 2008 primary with McCain, THEY want Romeny nominted because he is the most vulnerable.

Romeny’s conservative creditials are VERY shaky on a whole host of issues. He has the Mormon Cross to bear (now I PERSONALLY have no issue with his Mormonism and the anti-Mormon rhetoric is hard to understand. But apparently a LARGE segment of the Bible Belt - generally conservative and GOP - will not vote for a Mormon.

Secondly he has rufused to refute Romneycare.

Perry is a fundamentalist Christian, he has good rapport with Hispanic voters. he is a solid conservative on social issues, and he LOOKS and TALKS Presidential. I don’t believe he would be a President in the mold of George Bush II and I mean that as a POSTIVE characterization.

"Just remember, Watergate was a cover up of a 2-bit burglary and it brought down a presidency."

Just remember, that was when a Republican was President. With a Democrat now squatting in the Oval Office, the leftmedia will expend ten times as much effort as they did during Watergate to cover his ass at every turn.

Jay Carney will probably give some blather about how they get thousands of emails every day and can’t actually keep up with them or be expected to know what they say. After all, they have had some bad luck and distractions to deal with. He’ll give us a list of reasons no one ever reads emails about stuff like gun-trafficking.

It’s remarkable. Nobody in D.C. gives the OK for “Gun Walking,” or asks how the weapons will be monitored once they leave the stores?!

I know that (Romeny):-)is receiving most of the east coast money right now. Mighten the so-called press think that it would be easier for owebama to defeat him than someone else?

Questions answered by more questions.

If the MSM pushes this hard, they could be clearing the way at a Hillary candidacy. They have to see that this guy is in way over his head, and they could really explode this issue to get Hillary to take him on.

If this becomes HUGE, be sure that this is the game plan.

Yes. I get the impression that the Party Machine is backing Romney. They probably view him as less controversial and hence more likely to succeed.

On the other hand, the party machine is represented by the likes of the people who backed McCain - who were wrong, and the likes of Boehner - whose need to be non-controversial puts them in a state of irrelevance vis-a-vis any significant change in the processes which put us here in the first place.

When it comes to spending, the major difference between Bush II and Obama is in magnitude, not in real philosophy.

This s not a ruh roh. This is Obama using the LATimes covering his butt and back tracing their denial of knowledge. This is SLICK. As they must know these e mails are evident in evidence or will be so they are using the LATimes to say yeah they’re were communications and ties with the DOJ/ATF (DUH!) but we didn’t know of fast and furious gun walking.

PATHETIC!

Yes this is what they want everyone to think and any e mails or communications don’t prove they knew about fast and furious they thought it was gunrunner? AKA they had no idea about nothing. Slick but Issa has his ducks lined up they won’t get away with this Fri. news dump.

"But the effort went out of control after agents lost track of many of the weapons.

An obviously weak attempt by the LA Times to legitimize what was at the very outset, an illegitimate hairbrained scheme, in direct violation of Federal and State law as well as a direct breach of public trust.

Heads need to roll.

If you read this entire LATimes article it is Alinsky confusing on purpose. It has a quote from a WH official saying they know nothing and are innocent as doves; then goes on to maybe sell out two officials under the bus. Yet as it stands at least one of these officials were given DC offices and promotions.(To be closer to assist in the cover-up and or be thrown under the famous Obama bus?)

Nope.

It’s an admission the emails at least entered the White House.

How much more don’t we know?

There is a certain building down the street from the White Hut that brought down another President.

Drip, Drip, Drip....

“According to the emails, William D. Newell, then the ATF field supervisor for Arizona and New Mexico, was in close contact with O’Reilly and sought the White House’s help to persuade the Mexican government to let ATF agents recover U.S. guns across the border.

After earlier emails from Newell to O’Reilly surfaced, Newell testified to congressional investigators in July that the two were friends and acknowledged that he probably should not have sent them to him. But the new emails indicate that Newell and O’Reilly were in deeper discussions about gun operations on the border.”

Perhaps Newell knew that his bosses were terminally stupid and wanted to fix the “lost guns” problem under the table with help from his buddy in the WH?

It sure sounds like he knew it was wrong...

What is really interesting is that in April, 2009 Obama was quoted as follows:

"A demand for these drugs in the United States is what is helping to keep these cartels in business. This war is being waged with guns purchased not here, but in the United States. More than 90 percent of the guns recovered in Mexico come from the United States, many from gun shops that line our shared border."

This startling statement, along with a desire to renew the ban on certain assault weapons, occurred a full 2 years before the revelation of Gunwalker aka Fast and Furious. Interesting coincidence don't you think? If I were the suspiscious type I would conclude that all of this was being done to support a complete ban of semi automatic firearms and get a Senate ratification of the UN's gungrabber treaty .
