LOL! No, no, no. I mean the title has been patiently waiting in my Netflix queue, since it came out. I wish I could get it yesterday! It wasn’t playing anywhere near me, so I have to wait on Netflix. I might make an exception and actually purchase a copy when it comes out, but I have time to ponder and save up for it. (yes, even an extra 20 bucks for me requires saving up for.)
I spoke with the distributor, Rocky Mountain Pics, a few days ago and he thinks they are definitely making part 2. I had hoped to get the trailer for “Rockin’ the Wall” on this, but we’re too late. Maybe we’ll get our new documentary, “Other Walls 2 Fall,” on part 2.
The Passion of the Christ was ridiculed and ignored by the MSM, too. It cost $30 million to make and grossed $611,899,420 because Christians watched in droves anyway.
By contrast, Atlas Shrugged cost $20 million to make and earned $4,627,375, despite being marketed as a "tea party film" and being hyped endlessly on forums like this.
Maybe it's just conservatives and tea party supporters aren't buying the Ayn Rand kool-aid.
THat’s the good side of a movie bombing. If a movie does really bad in theatres, it shows up a lot quicker on DVD.

Arrived today, watched it already.
I think most of the bad reviews that aren’t ideology driven are related to the fact that those loved the novel had a vision of the characters that was as strong as their attachment to the book. As a result, anything that doesn’t match that vision grates.
I, apparently, had a vision that matched that of the producers. I think Taylor’s a wonderful Dagny and I think Grant’s fine too. I didn’t see any obvious cheapness in the production, and I thought the effects were adequate. In short, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Trying to find the balance between Ayn’s constant preaching and the temptation to just do a simplistic soap-opera-type narrative is a very difficult task, and I think they walked that line very well.
All in all, worth the wait, and I look forward to part 2.
I saw it in the theater, and my blu-ray just arrived today. I also downloaded it from iTunes and just now finished watching it on my iPod.
I got so much more the second time. Will watch it again this weekend with my Dad, who finally just finished the book.
I really like it. I love the casting. Apart from Dagny not having black hair, I have no quibbles. I do think, though, that it would be very difficult for somebody that hasn’t read the book. But I think the producers decided that this was OK. This movie is for fans.
I agree that fans will pick up more on the first viewing. I think it’s a really good adaptation, which is defined as one that stands alone for those who didn’t read the book, while not leaving those who know it saying, “what happened to my book”?
I also saw Dagny as dark haired. Bridget Moynahan would have worked well for me. Which reminds me, there’s a great Bill Goldman (if memory serves) story about writing a screenplay in which he described the character as brunette, and having the studio take a pass because they wanted something for their blonde actress. Repeated attempts to convince them that all he had to do was change the description of the character fell on deaf ears.
I’m pretty sure that Dagny was described as having jet-black straight hair. It would have been easy enough to outfit Taylor Schilling with black hair, and for whatever reason they chose not to. I can live with it. Schilling did a splendid job in the role.
I think casting Grant Bowler as Rearden was excellent.
