Levin Says Rick Perry "Up there with (Candidates) Acceptable to Me," After Perry Call
Radio Show ^ | Yesterday | Mark Levin

Posted on 09/03/2011 4:04:09 PM PDT by jessduntno

Texas Gov. Rick Perry called in to Mark Levin's radio show and the two had a wide-ranging conversation. Levin ended by saying, while he is not endorsing anyone yet for the GOP Nomination, Perry is "up there with candidates acceptable to me."

Hell, he supported Romney too, but later apologized for it.

Hi Jess. You flatter me! :)

It was a good interview. He’s very solid imo. I like the fact that he’s made an enemy of trial lawyers. That says alot. Overall, he’s got his bases covered and has very rational explanations on his views regarding immigration. He is against the dream act which many on here seem to ignore. He’s rock solid on business, taxes, and regulations.

I want to hear more of course. I’ve read up on him fairly extensively and at this point, all my questions and issues have been answered & resolved. Perry is a good man and he’s not a RINO as so many keep claiming. This is a man that is tough and one who loves this nation.

He only helped himself by being on Levin’s show imo.

Yeah, I thought so. I also thought that Levin was good with him. I don’t know hat I was expecting. I heard it in the car and listened to some of it in the driveway.

I liked the feedback on this thread. Couple of yahoos, but some good yahoos. Long way to go...we really need a leader who understands it’s jobs, jobs, jobs.

Good to see ya again!

True enough but I'm thinking we need to start solidifying the field. Palin is the unknown entity in this whole thing though; if she jumps in the dynamics are going to change radically.

Always good to see you my FRiend.

My pleasure. Sorry I couldn’t be more definitive though. It means one thing to me, but I don’t want to hit you over the head with my conclusion more than I did. Good luck.

I can support Perry given his stand on illegal immigration or open borders

So, since Perry is for defending our borders, and you disagree with him, does that mean you are FOR open borders? And since Perry wants the feds to do their job and get rid of illegal immigrants, and has fought sanctuary cities, and you disagree with him, does that mean you are FOR sanctuary cities or you think states should handle the illegal problem for the feds?

You are still missing part of what she said, which would show that she was in the middle of a statement and her "no" wasn't emphasized the way you made it.

Since you are a strong Palin supporter, I'd assume you would have wanted to use ALL of her words, because the more of Sarah's words we use, the better.

Palin: Still listening to the debate and the discourse and the GOP lineup right now, and still looking for that candidate whom I can put my heart and soul behind to support, if I don’t see that person here in short order I would be willing to put my name forward in the name of service. I’m impressed with the lineup

Meghan (interrupting): Have you not found him or her yet?

Palin: no, I’m impressed with the lineup, but there’s still is quite a long process, there will be a lot of comings and goings with this lineup,

With all her words, it is clear she was saying that she was evaluating the current and possible additional entries into the lineup, to DECIDE if she could support any of them. She wasn't ruling OUT supporting them, just saying she wasn't ready YET to support them.

You know what, I’m sorry I answered you with an answer that addressed her 2010 support for him, and not the 2008 run on the same ticket which is what you actually addressed. I zoned and realized while I was out having dinner, that I probably had.

IMO, it’s a far different thing to run on a ticket with someone to moderate them, than it is to support them for re-election based on their disgusting past.

In 2008, McCain had already sewn up the nomination. The choices were to have a person thought to be much more Conservative, or have a person like Lindsey Graham. I’d much rather have Sarah in that conundrum.

Sarah wouldn’t have been president, but she could have voiced and opinion.

Then Sarah supported John in 2010, and the idea that she would have moderated him flew out the window. She made appearances with him on one day. Then she went on FoxNews (and perhaps another network, I don’t remember if she did or not the second), and endorsed him there. Then she produced some radio spots that McCain ran for at least five months on two popular radio stations in Phoenix.

At some point she also went to a Tea Party Rally and said something to the effect that John McCain was a Tea Party member. And in a separate incident, she stated she was a supporter of John’s agenda. Ouch.

IMO, it’s okay to moderate a ticket. It’s not okay to endorse a guy that is as big a schmuck as John McCain is. Sarah pretty much sealed her fate with me when she endorsed him for re-election.

I have some other issues with her too, but this covers what you mentioned, and then clarifies why I stated what I did earlier.

Take care.

Are there ANY candidates either in the race or considering the race, who would push for a law that would FORBID states from setting their own in-state tuition rules?

If there are not, then Perry’s position that it is a state matter makes no difference to the choice of candidates.

I’m not convinced of that. I do believe Romney is worse. Perhaps some of the others rival Perry’s shortcomings, but I’m not convinced of that. We will have more time to observe and study these people. Don’t sell the folks other than Perry short. I think there’s some quality people out there.

But Sarah Palin supported him first. Although a lot of people say she didn’t actually support him, even though her statement was almost immediately followed by Chavitz announcing he wasn’t in the race.

I think it’s reasoned to think we’re all going to spin to a certain extent. I try to acknowledge my people’s shortcomings and then provide a reasoned explanation of what I think took place, and what we should take away from it.

Then others can make up their own mind. I have to admit, I do get very testy when folks start carving Ronald Reagan up.

If we can’t agree that guy was above reproach, then we’ll never be able to discern right from wrong and coalesce to support the right type of people.

Thanks LLS. I wasn’t aware of that.

I think Orin Hatch is probably a very nice guy. His politics are confused and he hurts us terribly at times when we need to be with one voice on an issue.

Orin, McCain, Graham, Snow... these types of people do harm to us, because they often times lend credence to the Leftist ideology there-by destroying our chance to get public consensus behind our plans.

I agree with you. He can be great on some issues, and wrong on others. Hell, I probably am too. I really try not to be.

I don’t want to muddle things up like the people I mentioned above do.

Nobody is more upset than me if I later realize I have been wrong. I consider myself to have helped the other side, when I get it wrong. That is the very last thing I want to do.

I would hope that all serious candidates would be against states setting rules to give in state tuition to illegals.

Plus, the Texas law signed by Perry violates a federal law intended to prevent illegal from receiving preferential treatment over American citizens.

Federal Law Title 8, Chapter 14, Sec. 1623 states:

“an alien who is not lawfully present in the United States shall not be eligible on the basis of residence within a State... for any postsecondary education benefit unless a citizen or national of the United States is eligible for such a benefit.”

Inflammatory rhetoric when it’s true, is inflammatory only to those that need the deception.

A certain number of voters enjoyed Perry's ranting about SS. But he and his most ardent supporters need to develop enough common sense to realize that vast numbers of voters do not, and that his rhetoric will push away many voters.

If he's the nominee, you'll see Dim ads and many comments about what he's had to say about SS. Not smart politics. SS reform can be discussed sensibly, but that's not what Perry's been doing.

re: Federal Law Title 8, Chapter 14, Sec. 1623

Thanks for this information. It merits further investigation as to context and applicability, but if it is as it appears, then it's going to bite Perry big-time if his opponents choose to use it, not to mention leaving the state of Texas wide-open to law suits.

Legal and political considerations aside, the law reflects and codifies the inherent moral and ethical hypocrisy of the Texas law.

Charles, your post #112 really pegged the sophistry alert meter hard to the right. Your pretzel-logic efforts at misdirection are usually more clever and plausible. You're slipping a bit.
