MIDDLEBURY — One child is dead and five injured after their pony cart was struck by an SUV in the 10500 block of County Road 24 in Middlebury.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department, around 10 Monday morning the children pulled out onto the road and into the path of the eastbound SUV.

One child, 10-year-old Jenna Miller, died at the scene from head injuries.

Police say the pony, which was also killed, was pulling two carts. The SUV only hit the pony and the first cart.

Three medical helicopters were called in to take four of the children to the hospital. Two were in serious condition and two were in critical condition.

They all have the same last name - are all of these children siblings? OMG - Prayers for their family. And prayers to for the driver - just a horrible, horrible accident.

The SUV did it, not the driver. They were even consoling her(the driver)at the site.

Can't lay the blame on the driver. The kids pulled out in front of them.

I am curious though is the family Mennonites? Miller is a common name for Amish and Mennonites.

This is the second time in two days I have heard Middlebury, Indiana mentioned. Prior to that, I only knew of Middlebury, Vermont.

From what I can gather no one is blaming the driver.
She’s going to need our prayers too.
Heartbreaking all around.

No, looks like just run of the mill folk, the dolly wheels for the cart is new and rubber tire. You can see it in the picture.

All of the children had first names that started with J, like the Duggars. I’m guessing that they all have the same parents, and another child has died since the accident. Jenna, Jeneva, Jared, Jolisa, Joyce, & Justin. Prayers for all of them and prayers for their family and for the SUV driver.

Elkhart County Amish aren’t all that conservative. Rubber tired pony carts are common.
