Chuck Grassley: Sarah Palin won't run for president in 2012
Politico ^ | September 7, 2011 | ALEXANDER BURNS

Iowa's senior senator told the television station WHO that he doesn't expect Sarah Palin to take the plunge in 2012. From reporter Dave Price:

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley just told me he doesn't expect Sarah Palin to run for president. Grassley said with a smile, "She sure is acting like a candidate. But I believe she will not be getting in." When I asked him why she won't run, he replied, "She hasn't staffed up for it."

No one knows except Sarah what she will do. But truthfully, the waiting is getting old to this supporter that still has a 2008 "I'm voting for Sarah" bumper sticker on my P/U.

Wishing or predicting Grassley?

Sarah Palin represents just as much a threat to entrenched career RINOS, as she does to the Marxists.

Blow up the Beltway, Sarah.

The hacks just can't help but look at Sarah's potential campaign through the typical DC-based, big staff, hired-gun prism. She's already said that her campaign won't be conventional, and in my opinion, the One Nation bus tours were dry runs to see 1) how well the Palin family would hold up, and 2) to develop some idea of the cost of a low budget nationwide tour using the family RV, with O4P, C4P, S4P, FR, and TPX volunteers going in as the ground troops.

The election is still 14 months away, and so there is no pressing reason for her to declare now. Just look what happened to both Pawlenty and Bachmann---they got in early, staffed up to the eye balls, and promptly spent all their money. They're done, while Sarah has not even started.

In addition to your excellent observation I should add that the number one rule when going to work for Governor Palin is that you will keep your mouth shut.

Nobody will know what she has done until she wants you to know what she has done.

I wish she could figure out how to make her announcement, either way, during the “jobs” reading (speech).

Thank goodness we now have Chuck Grassley’s input. He is the “go to man” whenever I need to make important decisions in my life - like when to poop.

Palin is not an ordinary candidate, and the ordinary leaders of the GOP do no want her, because they want the status quo.

In order to win the nomination, she has to outwit and outmaneuver them.

The longer she delays announcing her candidacy, the longer she keeps the ruling-class RINOs, state-controlled media, DemocRAT and Republican opponents, etc. in complete and total disarray.

Palin is coming, and the Tea Party is coming with her.

ineluctable

I love that these “Beltway Boys” have never heard of Organizing4Palin, Veterans4Palin, JewsforSarah or Conservatives4Palin, and all the rest. How is that? BTW: Then former Governor Ronald Reagan announced his candidacy for the 1980 nomination on November 13, 1979.

How is easy, just put the announcement on the teleprompter. (NB I'm a ideas man, others can work out the details)

This is NOT a ‘hijack’ attempt ...

This issue reflects a nearly fatal flaw in the current operation of the National Election ‘cycle’. By some objective criteria, THIS ‘cycle’ is already almost a year old and the National Party Nominating Conventions are still a year away !

Self-nomination as a candidate this early in the ‘cycle’ is tantamount to suicide as it serves ONLY to position oneself as a target for the Media, the opposition party and the other nominees of your own party.

Ignore the sheer waste of time and resources spent ‘campaigning’ to create or merely maintain some degree of relevancy and then SUSTAIN it through the primaries and the nominating convention.

What appears most likely for the overwhelming majority of potential candidates is simply to provoke destructive attacks from all sides and to become the victim of ennui or over-exposure to friends and foes alike.

What MATTERS, ultimately, is who’s still standing late in the primary season and who is still ‘relevant’ come the nominating convention.

By delaying entry into such a self-defeating venture, a potential candidate MIGHT preserve a certain degree of dignity, resources and ‘relevance’ for when the contest actually matters.

‘Campaigning’, ‘debating’ ( !!! ), polling and producing ‘positions’ at this remove from the actual contest is a wholey ‘empty’ exercise for ALL concerned — the potential candidates, the potential voters, the potential contributors, etc.

The only ‘winners’ are the Media and the professional political hacks and operatives egging on the participants.

One Man’s Opinion ...

Good points. You note that most major players (i.e. current Washington politicians), though they say she won’t run, have not endorsed anyone. They will likely wait until just before the primaries to do so to avoid being labeled as a supporter of a withdrawn or losing candidate.

Puzzling since Newt—an avowed candidate—has not “staffed up” either.
His staff quite on him because he is not running a typical campaign.

Good point ...

Also, I neglected to highlight those ‘players’ whose only interest in the run-up to the late stages of the Primaries is to garner a block of ‘committed delegates’ to parley into bargaining chips in the convention ‘deal-making’ phase. These self-anointed ‘deal-makers’ serve no useful political function except self-aggrandizement.

In 1960, John Kennedy did not announce until January 1960. Of course he had like Romney been effectively a canddiate for the nomination since the 1956 convention, when the convention almost took the VP slot away from the leaders and chose him over Kefauver. Even with his farther’s money. however. his organization was relatively small. TV had not yet taken over the political process. That would not happen until the years following JFK’s murder.

"She hasn't staffed up for it."

In other words, she hasn't hired Tokyo Rove or any one of a hundred useless RINO consultants?

She won't be, either. She learned this lesson in 2008: don't trust anybody from the permanent political class.

Still will "staff up" with people SHE trusts, and it won't be anybody that the Beltway crowd recognizes.
