Universities, colleges "may be liable for massive damages" if they fail to prevent anti-Semitism on campus, Israel Law Center warns.
Hundreds of US college and university presidents were set to receive warning letters on Thursday morning, instructing them of their legal obligations to prevent anti-Semitism on campus.
The letters also remind universities it is their legal duty to prevent university funds from being diverted to unlawful activities directed against the State of Israel.
Civil rights group the Israel Law Center (Shurat HaDin) is carrying out the legal campaign in response to an alarming number of incidents of harassment and hate crimes against Jewish and Israeli students on US college campuses.
Anti-Israel rallies and events frequently exceed legitimate criticism of Israel and cross the line into blatant anti-Semitism, resulting in hateful attacks against Jews, the centers lawyer Nitsana Darshan-Leitner said on Wednesday.
One university that has attracted criticism over anti- Semitism on campus is Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.
Aaron Marcus, a senior at Rutgers, says he was dubbed a racist Zionist pig in a public Facebook posting by a fellow student.

Is the popcorn kosher?
I imagine CAIR is going to scream to the rooftops that Muslims have the right to proclaim they despise Jews. Well as they say, a bell can’t be unrung.
No speaking invitations for Ron Paul, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson!
If they are liable for anti-semitism, then they are liable for anti-islamism.
A very bad road we should not traverse.
I wish this was unnecessary, but not all around us pray for the peace of Jerusalem or wishes for the security and safety of Israel.

Which Semites?

. the Arabs or
. the Israelis?

“If they are liable for anti-semitism, then they are liable for anti-islamism.

This is not an introduction of a new law on liability. If it was, I might agree. Muslims are suing, pressuring, demonstrating, all over the place already. Universities are already running scared of them.
The fact is, Jews are getting assaulted, and I don’t mean just verbal assaults, on campuses by Muslims. It is good that universities be reminded of their responsibilities and that they cannot idly sit by and let Muslims intimidate students of other religions right off campus.
Language is not static. Lots of words in English have morphed or evolved meanings. It was not so long ago that “notorious” had a negative connotation but now is essentially synonymous with “famous”.
“Anti-semitic” has meant “anti-Jewish” for a very long time regardless of the roots of the term. What is your point?
Which Semites? . . the Arabs or . the Israelis?
Exactly! It is almost unbelievable how Americans, including a majority on Free Republic, have been bamboozled.
But then so so many swallow the modern Media, even when they say they don't.
And what constitutes anti-semitism exactly? Will Jews be held by the same standard in their treatment/conversations of non-Jews?

Right, most Americans and a majority of Freepers have been bamboozled. And some are just plain ignorant.
The term antisemite was coined by Wilhelm Marr, a mid to late 19th German racist/politician, as the name of his political party, the Antischemitchers (sp). It referred solely to the hatred of Jews, and had nothing at all to do with the linguistic (not racial) term semite. It was likely derived from the term semitismus which cropped up in the 1860s as a term referring to Jewry or the Jewish community.
We're already there. The point of the action is that if an institution is going to enforce prohibitions on the intimidation of minorities, the article specifically mentions expulsions for criticism of Islam, the cannot do it selectively. Punishment for intimidation of Muslims or other minorities is a give, the question is why it doesn't extend to Jews.
The moslem student association is going to be very upset.
How can the koranimals be held accountable for their religious duty to kill all the Jews?
All I can say is: good!
.
This is nuts. Will they have thought police? I can see preventing anti-Semitic incitement to violence, but they can’t force people to like other people, or to not speak of their dislike.
Universities, colleges "may be liable for massive damages" if they fail to prevent anti-Semitism on campus, Israel Law Center warns. It'll be interesting to see this one get to the Supreme Court. That'll separate the Jews from the JINOs. Heh heh...
But, but, but... I thought that antisemitism was okay now because zer0 hates the Joooooz. You could tell by the way he looked at Bibi.
