Obama Urges Congress to Pass $450 Billion Jobs Plan (American Jobs Act)

Seeking to boost a slumping economy along with his hopes for re-election, President Obama unveiled his $450 billion jobs plan Thursday night in a highly-anticipated speech to a joint session of Congress.

The American Jobs Act contains a blend of infrastructure spending, tax relief, unemployment assistance and other aid. All the proposals are paid for with spending cuts although the president isn’t expected to detail them until next week.

“There should be nothing controversial about this piece of legislation,” Obama said in excerpts released by the White House ahead of his speech. “Everything in here is the kind of proposal that’s been supported by both Democrats and Republicans – including many who sit here tonight."

ABC News radio just interviewed 2 “Americans” who told me that this plan is great and that the President deserves to have the Republicans support it totally and pass it immediately.

That this broad cross-section of knowledged “Americans” was comprised of two unemployed black men didn’t seem to faze the interviewer at all.

Seems legit (sarc)

http://www.speaker.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=259015

“Washington (Sep 8)
House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement after President Obama’s address to a joint session of Congress:

“American families and small businesses are hurting, and they are looking for the White House and Congress to seek common ground and work together to help get our economy back on track. Republicans have laid out a blueprint for economic growth and job creation – our Plan for America’s Job Creators – that focuses on one thing: removing government barriers to private-sector job growth.

“The proposals the President outlined tonight merit consideration. We hope he gives serious consideration to our ideas as well. It’s my hope that we can work together to end the uncertainty facing families and small businesses, and create a better environment for long-term economic growth and private-sector job creation.””

Actually that would have made a nice on-air response.

It falls under DNC Strategy # 10.247.111, where plan is layed out Sept. 2011 and repeated economic failure is blamed on Republicans because they stopped all reasonable progressive measures then, to be repeated in Oct. 2012.
