Veteran California campaign treasurer Kinde Durkee "nearly wiped out" the $379,000 in Rep. Loretta Sanchez's campaign war chest, Politico's Jonathan Allen and John Bresnahan report.
"What we've learned this week is that unfortunately, the amount in our reelect account is substantially less than the amount we've raised this year, as well as the amount reflected in the records sent to us by Durkee & Associates," Sanchez chief of staff Adrienne Elrod told Politico. "In fact, our account has been nearly wiped out."
Durkee was arrested by the FBI on Friday on mail fraud charges. The feds said she used campaign funds for her own personal purposes, including paying her mortgage; her mother's nursing home costs; and credit card charges for cosmetics and ice cream.
A major player in the California campaign finance world, Durkee had an extensive list of clients in California, according to the Secretary of State's office. On the federal level, Federal Election Commission records show she was treasurer for 161 various committees over the course of her career.
Durkee allegedly admitted to the FBI that she misappropriated her clients' money for years and routinely moved money between her clients' accounts.

Kinda funny. She stood there and probably took a dollar or two of every hundred that came through. No one in the party was ever going to audit her...and unless the IRS was bright enough (which they weren’t)....she’d just keep going. But here’s the thing....there are probably a hundred Kinde Durkees out there and they are all doing the same thing.
Sans the picture, I search (almost) in vain for a party mention.

MUCH of the Democrat Party is now a criminal enterprise. 20-25 years ago it wasn’t like that, but it sure is today.

I don’t know. What if someone was going to take a look at Sanchez’s money? This is all too much aboveboard. There’s more to this story than is being reported.

You bet there is. This is going to get hushed up and pushed down the memory hole. The democrats at masters of illegal, off the book uses of campaign money, which requires very loose accounting of money. It's hard to keep track of just how much money is in that black bag and the black bag guys don't leave receipts
A lot of walkin’ around money seems to have walked right over to Durkee’s bank accounts.
