Bachmann prepping to swing at Perry (Mitt must be onboard)
Politico ^ | September 11, 2011 | By MAGGIE HABERMAN

Byron York telegraphs the lines of attack Michele Bachmann is planning on using at tomorrow night's Florida debate to chip away at the support Rick Perry has taken from her:

"Bernie Madoff deals with Ponzi schemes, not the grandparents of America," says a Bachmann adviser. "Clearly she feels differently about the value of Social Security than Gov. Perry does. She believes Social Security needs to be saved, that it's an important safety net for Americans who have paid into it all their lives."

York goes on the say Bachmann's camp was unhappy with how few questions she got at last week's Reagan Library debate, and quotes the Bachmann adviser saying she will make clear she disagrees with Perry on Social Security if asked:

"Certainly not," the adviser says. "She strongly disagrees with his position on that, and it's clearly not something that's going to sit well with the people of Florida and Iowa and South Carolina and many of the early states, where there is a large population of seniors who rely heavily on Social Security. For [Perry] to scare them is wrong."

Perry came off like a “bull in the china shop” in the last debate.

Doesn't even have any horns.........

Maybe Palin is the stalking horse for Romney. I have about as much proof of that as I have been shown for Michele Bachmann being tied to Romney.

None at all.

But, it is okay when she says it. Just not Bachmann. LOL

You best stop posting that. Festering boils will be a’ poppin’.

She is fully aware that Rick Perry has no intention of gutting SS.

Rick Perry had warned that the other side (liberal democrats) would use the scare tactic to try to scare seniors.

I didn't think it would be a republican who would also take that stance. But then again, we have a republican running around the nation calling republicans "crony capitalists" who should have term limits despite the fact that John McCain is on which term now?

Those familiar with candidate:

Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin, who still have not ruled out entering the race, are also well-liked by Republicans (74% and 69% favorable ratings, respectively), but also do not generate the same degree of strong intense feeling as Perry and Cain. Giuliani's current Positive Intensity Score is 15 and Palin's is 13.

Perry Remains Best-Positioned Candidate

Perry's combination of high name recognition and a high Positive Intensity Score help make him the best-positioned candidate for the Republican nomination at this point, underscored by his lead in Republican nomination preferences. Cain's enthusiastic support is offset by his low name recognition, and other well-known candidates like Romney, Michele Bachmann, and Ron Paul, do not generate the same level of intense feeling as Perry.

Perry has room to grow within his name recognition numbers.

If Bachmann does this, she will be the one scaring seniors—not Perry. Not only will she be scaring seniors but she’ll be scaring juniors as well.

Bachmann cant be this stupid.
She knows damn well that the numbers dont add up for SS, and
she knows damn well that Perry is not trying to make old folks eat catfood.

This will be her last stand.

I'm afraid you're right. Personally I like Bachmann a lot more than Perry. There's something about him I don't trust, almost like he's too perfect. Kind of like I felt about Huckabee.
My vote is always AB0, but I'd rather see Cain at the top.

We've been dealt a hand here in Texas (and if you've read my threads you know much of this) where we have a federal government that has not answered the call to protect the 1250 border miles Texas shares with Mexico. Gov. Perry does not believe a fence is the answer to illegals crossing the U.S.-Mexican border. He believes conservative ascendancy will. So we do the best with what we have ($100M/yr of our own state money put up to help secure an international border). We have a lot of crime to combat and pay for because of the illegal activity (drugs, human smuggling and trafficking) generated by an unsecured international border.

We can't refuse to educate or give health care, as everyone in every state is faced with the same situation, but since Perry is a border gov, he's held responsible for illegal aliens, where everyone vents their frustration about the problem using him as a whipping boy (and to make political points and take pot shots). Perry's asked for drones (went to Israel and asked how they protect Gaza Strip), has asked for 3000 people here on the TX border (crickets). Perry has set up an elite Texas Ranger unit to work on the border. Then we find out the Feds have been "running guns" across the border and we've had people killed because of that.

The Texas Dream Act was set up because we have a lot of kids here from the way the feds have allowed this to snowball. Students who have been in Texas for 3 years and graduated from a Texas high school get instate tuition (no benefits -- they pay their way) The entire Texas Senate voted for this in 2001. (The Texas Dream Act does NOT have all the hidden goodies the U.S. Congress "Dream Act" was trying to get into law.)

Perry has said: “If you show up illegally, without your card or you’re here as a criminal element, I’m for throwing the book at those folks, but the issue of people who want to legally, thoughtfully and appropriately come to America to work and help us build our economy — we should quickly come up with a program and an identification card to do that.”

The Texas legislature meets every 2 years for 140 days and the governor is allowed to call Special Sessions. He called a Special Session because he had put "sanctuary cities" on the agenda and the legislature dropped the ball -- but the Senate and then the House left again -- giving Gov. Perry nothing to sign (Texas legislators also have elections they'll be facing and no doubt didn't want a vote on this shadowing their re-election bids).

In this just ended session, after about 3 tries to slip it into a bill, a law that required people to show their birth certificate to get a drivers license got through [The amendment, added by Rep. Jim Pitts, R-Waxahachie, to the education funding bill legislators needed to balance the state budget had originally been included in Senate Bill 9, the so-called "sanctuary cities" bill that failed in the special session. It also had appeared in an omnibus homeland security bill by Sen. Tommy Williams, R-The Woodlands, that died in the regular session......By putting it into law the state potentially undermines an ongoing lawsuit that argues DPS doesn't have authority to check legal status.]. However, the ink on that law was barely dry before it was overturned by a judge – as usual.

In this last Texas Legislative session Gov. Perry signed the Texas Photo ID Voting Law -- it took 6 years to get it through -- Only 6 states have a PHOTO Voter ID requirement.

Texas has a long history with Mexico and being "Mexican" does not mean that you aren't an American, or a Texan. A lot of Texans have Mexican heritage or are married to someone who does. Perry doesn't lead with his chin. He's a thoughtful man.

Rick Perry is as ready to fix this as anyone and understands it probably better than anyone running -- or commenting anonymously on a chat site.

Using state resources, Gov. Rick Perry (denied the necessary and requested federal help needed by a border state to deal with the consequences of current federal inaction, in addition to shouldering the continued fallout from past federal actions) works to hold the line on the 1250 mile section of the U.S. border between Texas and Mexico, our neighbor to the south.

I think she has her eye on a Romney VP slot.
It's the only VP slot that makes sense for her.

She wouldn't bring anything to Perry.

To Mitt she brings Tea Party Creds, such as they are, or will be, after she repeats the dem party line lie about SS.

"Bernie Madoff deals with Ponzi schemes, not the grandparents of America,"

Those grandparents who invested with Madoff would disagree. The U.S Congress has been ripping off SS contributors just like Madoff did his investors.

Elect me, I promise to try to undo all the damage this crazy president and these RATS have done. Sign EOs to get the rigs back in the gulf and get oil exploration and refining done on a wholesale level here in the US and AK. Then see what happens to the price of oil. Then see how people are put back to work.

I think Perry was not shooting from the hip so much as making a calculation based on his belief that people may be ready to address this third rail of American politics. It’s a tricky move but he may be betting on a wider tea party climate where people want leadership, not scare tactics. My guess is he will come out on top in this issue. But it’s only a guess.
That's the way I see it.

So Bachmann doesn’t want to fix Social Security for younger workers? I am confused about her position here. Perry clearly said he supports keeping the system the same for current retirees and those near retirement and fixing it for younger workers. What part of that does Bachmann disagree with?

I suspect Bachmann and Romney are a team. She has most likely been promised Romney’s VP slot if Romney wins the candidacy because attacking Perry on Social Security certainly won’t help her with her Tea Party base. The fact that Bachmann is willing to attack a fellow conservative in order to help Romney win the nomination lowers my opinion of her a lot. What a sellout. It will be funny when Romney stabs her in the back and selects someone else.

I love Herman Cain and I hope there is a slot for him as Secretary of Commerce.

God Bless him, I just don’t think he can win the nomination let alone the general election.

Bachman was. To continue is an exercise in futility. She is not up to the standards of the big boys.

Her endless parading of numbers during the debate indicated sophomore like cramming for finals. She poured out underlined sections of the text but did not convey understanding.

She is over.
