COMMENTARY | Herman Cain, the former Godfather's Pizza CEO and current candidate for president of the United States, may not get the Republican nomination. But he remains the most interesting man running for the Oval Office. For instance, Cain's "9 9 9" proposal, which essentially would replace the current tax code with a 9 percent flat tax on personal income, a 9 percent corporate tax, and a 9 percent national sales tax, has the virtue of being simple, easy to understand, and appealing to anyone who has had to struggle with complying with the tax code. Cain's proposal, repeated during the CNN/Tea Party Debate, reminds one of Steve Forbes' championing the flat tax during the 1996 campaign. Cain, in the same debate, suggested a market-oriented health care reform idea...

He has executive experience, all in the private sector, which is much more than Soetoro had when he fooled the voting public into voting for him. IMHO the MSM won't give him any traction because his 9-9-9 proposal will really upset a lot of sacred cows, but it will make this economy hum.
Perry /Romney seem too squishy on the border for my taste , but to see how I'll vote in the general, see my tagline ;-)
LOL, that would be great compared to what we have now. The short answer to your good question is , like all these tax proposals, the devil is in the details.
Unfortunately a flat/sales/consumption/VAT tax has proven to be the socialism of the right: sounds like such a good idea, but in practice proves to be a moral hazard for mere mortal men.
That is, once it is installed, it is too easy for pols and bureaucrats to jack it up out of control.
I’d love to see Palin run, but Cain has my FULL confidence...IMO we need BOTH of them leading us.
That was an extremely and uncalled for low blow.
In my opinion, Herman Cain would be an excellent choice and I too will vote for him in the primaries. My fear is that conservatives will split their votes among Cain, Bachmann and Perry and the socialist, scum bag, low life, Romney will sashay into the nomination, with a lot of democrat help from the open primary states.
I pray that Romney will be eliminated very early in the primary process because I will never vote for him in the primary or the general. McCain was the one and only liberal I have ever voted for and that fact still haunts me.
It will never ever happen. Some kind of exemption or "rebate" will be built in for the tax takers at the expense of the tax payers.
Keep in mind that one of the greatest "gimmes", the Earned Income Tax Credit, was signed into law by a republican president.
Proposed by Richard Nixon, signed into law by Ford and increased under every administration since, without exception. It is a huge transfer of wealth from tax payers to tax takers and ever growing.
When conservatives suggest just slowing down the growth of this monstrosity, liberals scream, "robbing the poor" and republicans promptly tuck their tails between their legs and run for the nearest cover, scared to death.
When 50% or more of the populace are net tax takers, that status won't change, short of a revolution and I mean a real revolution, not just one at the polls.
Laws can be changed.
Yes, but you miss the point of temporary. You also miss the point of public pressure because everyone would be affected (unlike our current system)
Do you really believe that they would pass this 9-9-9 plan and within two years (before the Fair Tax is implemented) the SAME Congress would change the amounts and tick off EVERYONE in the country? I don’t see that.
I’ll ask you what I ask everyone, and you tell me how our our current system better?
I suggest you read the whole thread including my post just above. The increases you are talking about happened over a long period of time and to a minority of people. This is different - everyone has skin in the game. It will not be so easy to change, especially in one term.
These are the same arguments people use against the Fair Tax and have for years. All are dealt with here http://www.fairtax.org.
The point that is never answered is how is it worse than what we have now? It isn’t, plain and simple. Any move away from government picking winners/losers is NOT fair. A friend and I talked today how nice it would be to get rid of lobbyists. Just another of the 100s of benefits of Fair Tax.
**Any move away from government picking winners/losers which is NOT fair is a move in the right direction.
When a party presents a sole candidate such as McCain, one holds one’s nose and votes. It ain’t pretty. I happily voted for Goldwater in ‘64 and held my nose until RWR. We’ve been stuck with RINOs in every other election cycle. It is my undying hope that we have a candidate in this cycle for whom we can wholeheartedly vote without having to hold our noses. Perry, though close, ain’t it. Cain is. sd
Liberals will not vote for a black Republican “uncle tom” “fake black”.
A damn good combination in my opinion.
He's the left's worst nightmare.
I don't see them passing the 9-9-9 plan to begin with. Doing that, with the corresponding tax increase for half the country, would be enough to tick off the country.
Intelligent voters
RE: Intelligent voters
Is it correct to assume that there are more of them than the unintelligent ones today?
However, a flat tax rate will kill much of the purchasing of political favors and bold faced corruption that has swept through the halls of washington as of late. I believe it has great potential to shift the focus and debate to how $$ is being spent. Right now everyone just juggles for more more more because there's no cap to how high taxes can go.
