NASA to Unveil Giant New Rocket Design (Obama is now a rocket scientist)
Fox News ^ | 9/14/2011 | Not Identified

The Obama administration on Wednesday will unveil its much-delayed general plans for its rocket design, called the Space Launch System, which will cost about $35 billion, according to senior administration sources and information obtained by The Associated Press. It will carry astronauts in a capsule on top and start test launching in six years.

The size, shape and heavier reliance on liquid fuel as opposed to solid rocket boosters is much closer to Apollo than the recently retired space shuttles, which were winged, reusable ships that sat on top of a giant liquid fuel tank, with twin solid rocket boosters providing most of the power. It's also a shift in emphasis from the moon-based, solid-rocket-oriented plans proposed by the George W. Bush administration.

Is this for an asteroid mission?

Maybe, stung by criticism over his reduction of NASA’s mission to a Muslim outreach program, he decided to adopt the symbolism of the Bruce Willis movie “Armageddon.”

And another thing, why isn’t this thing powered by solar cells? /S

He has figured out another way to spend a LOT of money.

I’m not surprised.

They could launch 450 tons if not for all the emission control, and fuel economy standards set forth by the administration.

EPA analysis will be done by 2040.

It’s a rocket powered by hot air and BS...2 resources that this administration generates and overabundance of.

its rocket design, called the Space Launch System,

LOL! They can't even come up with a cool name for the project. That sounds like something ran thru Babelfish!

Well depending on the emissions you are talking about we could have had a 4000 ton booser in service back in the 70s. But the original Project Orion tended to play heck with launch facilities.

He’ll probably have them built in Tehran in order to “boost Muslim self-esteem” and to aid their “intercontinental outreach” program.

It will be the first green rocket design.

Powered by solar panels on the outside of the rocket, it will take 3 years to charge the batteries, at which point it will be ready to launch into space.

Unfortunatly, it only goes 60 miles between charges.

He sure as hell isn’t going to send it to the Space Station. Russia wants to destroy it next year. So, that being the case, where is he going to send it?

You beat me to it. We all know that the smartest people in NASA must live in Tehran.

Better. Zer0 and the HRC State Dept. enter into a joint venture where Obama can not only give Tehran nuclear capability but the launch systems to boot. After Zer0 gets done slashing the Defense budget, Americans won't need those icky ICBMs any way. Think of it as a huge taxpayer fire sale.

The only rockets Muslim’s will design, with our NASA funds, are ones that fly about 1,000 feet above ground level and hit skyscrapers within 3000 miles.

The only thing Congress and Obama have agreed on was cancelling the Antares manned lunar lander. At the end of the day, this SLS system is a redesigned Ares.

Congress (Shelby & Hutcheson) insisted on a heavy-lift, but Obama has succeeded in expunging all Bush era paint from the architecture.

They green material in the middle (100% recyclable and biodegradable rocket fuel made from kelp) expands under as it absorbs solar energy. When it reaches critical mass, it squirts out of the bottom of the rocket, propelling it into space.
