Chris Matthews Blames 'Robots' at CVS, MSNBC for Poverty in America
NewsBusters ^ | September 14, 2011 | 18:50 | Ken Shepherd

On the September 14 edition of MSNBC's "Hardball," host Chris Matthews admitted to socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) that it "sounds Marxist" but he truly believes that automation in the economy has killed jobs by replacing human clerks in CVS and camera operators at MSNBC with "robots":

I don't want to skip to your left on this but.... [W]hen I see automation, when I go to a CVS that used to employ a lot of people just above the poverty level, above the minimum wage. And you walk in there now, it's all machines. Now it's very convenient for the customer, it's all machines. There's a check-out machine, by the way, that talks to you and says "Don't forget to put your CVS card in."

And by the way, I used to have about seven or eight cameramen. I don't have them anymore. It's all automated, it's all robots. Everywhere we go is robots!

You used to go to a gas station, you'd have somebody would check your tires, check your oil. There ain't anybody there, there's nobody working at a gas station! …

When there were people doing those jobs, they whined, complained, unionized, demanded ridiculous amounts of money, sued for ridiculous reasons, and then complained non-stop while providing awful customer service or even damaging the customer’s merchandise.

I’d rather have bots.

He’s got a point. Same with manufacturing. Doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Just means it’s a problem for no-skilled people who can’t adapt.

Chris Matthews is the dumbest person in America. He was giving fellatio to lib Dems all his political career working for Tip O’Neil, who was a total a%%hole.

He is right, and Charles Murry concurs. The small jobs are not available much any more and frankly, we are poorer for it. The gas pumpers, the street sweepers, the baggers and carry to the car guys. the guy who lived in the basement and kept my granmother’s coal furnace going. The women who took in washing, the men who carried items.

Not everyone can do big jobs because of their IQ or mental status. Now we have no little jobs.

Actually mechanization, automation, computerization, improved processes and robotics have advanced to the point they are stripping employment opportunities away from SKILLED LABOR and PROFESSIONALS.

Ever had surgery with a DaVinci Machine? Sure, there's still a doctor in there but he does it perfect every time!

You don't come back for redoes ~ you can imagine how that cuts into the opportunities for new surgeons.

Maybe Chrissy and friends should throw their wooden shoes into the machinery.

Okay, Chris. You have a point. Robots are everywhere.

I have a solution to this problem.

Everyone goes out and adds another firearm of his/her choice to their collection to prepare for the upcoming Skynet attack.

If those robots even THINK about getting out of line, well, we’ll be ready for them.

you forgot “went on strike”

I remember about 1977-78, WV coal miners went on strike (struck against their coal company employers) to force WV lawmakers to change the law, so they didn’t have to take their studded snow tires off on April 1st as the law required.

I think this was the strike that broke the camel’s back.

The gas pumpers scratched the hell out of my car, the street sweepers used to shove dirt into people’s houses, baggers never did it right and always managed to drop some of my stuff, furnace stokers used for respiratory diseases, women *still* take in washing.

Yeah, I did forget that. Should be “go on strike for stupid or no reasons whatsoever” in there.

I cannot believe how incredibly stupid that is. I mean Dehydrated stupid. Dehydrated-rock-hard stupid. Stupid, so stupid it goes way beyond the stupid we know into a whole different dimension of stupid. It is trans-stupid stupid. Meta-stupid. Stupid collapsed on itself so far that even the neutrons have collapsed. Stupid gotten so dense that no intellect can escape. Singularity stupid. Blazing hot mid-day sun on Mercury stupid. You emit more stupid in one second than our entire galaxy emits in a year. Quasar stupid. Nothing in our universe can really be this stupid. Perhaps this is some primordial fragment from the original big bang of stupid. Some pure essence of a stupid so uncontaminated by anything else as to be beyond the laws of physics that we know.
