Current and former intelligence officials were surprised by a recent news report revealing that a group of agency analysts celebrated a policy victory of sorts several years ago by issuing a special coin after they had prevented President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney from ordering an attack on Syria’s secret desert nuclear facility.

Yes.

Treason.

Yes.

Valerie Plame's friends.

Yes. I believed at the time and still believe what we witnessed in the Plame/Wilson episode was an attempted coup d'etat by elements of the CIA.

This fits a pattern. Shortly after 9/11, Jordan captured Iraqi an intelligence agent (Ahmed Hikmat Shakir) who attended the the January 2000 Kuala Lumpur al Qaeda summit. Saddam Hussein publicly screamed bloody murder, and the CIA convinced Jordan to release Shakir to the Iraqis. Thus the CIA interfered with a key piece of evidence that would have directly linked Saddam Hussein to 9/11.

That always bugged the hell out of me.

Now, to dredge up an episode from the war that I noted at the time but which has been flushed down the memory hole.

During the invasion, thanks to the embedded reporters, we knew that the troops had captured a factory that manufactured nerve agent. The plant manager was an Iraqi general and the plant was secured by Iraqi infantry. It was not on any UN maps, it had been kept secret from the UN inspectors.

Then after a couple of days they announced that no, come to find out, it wasn’t nerve agent at all, it was agricultural pesticide. Then they found barrels of the stuff in Iraqi army ammo dumps and again, after a couple of days, it was announced that it was agricultural pesticide, again, after all.

This happened at least three times; in one occasion the reporters at the scene got sick.

Nerve agent, diluted and spread on fields is agricultural pesticide and agricultural pesticide, at full strength and spread on Iranians, is nerve agent. Manufactured by the Iraqi Army and stored in Iraqi Army ammo dumps it is clearly nerve agent.

So, in other words, we found the WMD and then re-defined it out of existence. Considering that Bush very nearly lost his presidency over the issue, I wondered then who had the power to bury the find that confirmed everything they had said going in. It would probably be the same people who denied the fact that Saddam had sent his agents to Niger in search of yellow cake, and the same people who denied that Iran was developing nuclear weapons. And, now we know, denied the same thing with respect to Syria.

They need to be in prison right alongside Aldrich Ames. For life.

Remember that CIA denied three times that Atta was in Prague to meet with the Iraqi Embassy.

Three times the Czechs announced that they had witnessed Atta meeting with Iraqi intel and three times, within two hours, CIA went public to deny it.

But when you dug into CIA’s denial, you find out that all they were saying was, they weren’t there and couldn’t confirm it. But the headline said it wasn’t true, while the fine print in the story said what was true, that CIA simply wasn’t there.

So why the insistence that the meeting wasn’t true when the truth was they weren’t there (and the Czechs were).

If agents and former agents start singing about this under subpoena, I wonder if Joe "mint tea" Wilson and Valerie "Mata Hari of the typing pool" Plame will be tragically implicated.

And Valerie Plame was probably part of their circle.

Nothing less than insubordination and they should be rooted out and fired -- I should think for cause. Every one of them.

I might as well throw a few more things in the stack as some of our Freepers have.
Between 330 tons and 350 tons of yellow cake uranium ore sold to the Canadian power company after many years being held under wraps in Iraq along with the estimated 1.7 tons of 10% or more enriched uranium. All would have been if we did not invade, eventually spun through the improved centrifugal systems Iraq sought through the former eastern block European sources into fission grade uranium. A simple fact.
I would like to punch in the face the millions of morons who over the past eight years or so have claimed, Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction. Clowns. The very thing that keeps Iran in recent years on a world wide watch, in their similar pursuit to gain atomic weapons.

You will find Stoffel’s name and subsequent TS notes about his mission connected to Gen. David P e t r a e u s, among others. He was murdered in Baghdad during broad daylight and his laptop stolen. The info on that laptop is damning to the aforementioned...and guess who now heads the CIA.

The “conventional wisdom” is that the CIA is a bastion of right wing extremists.

The fact is it has been staffed at senior ranks, by liberal academics for some time now.

Saddam Hussein had dozens of canisters of WMD (Sarin Gas) that was discovered and moved openly, publicly from Iraq six years ago. I’ve noted this to Iraq War opponents...only to hear arguments as to whether this example of WMD is enough to go to war. If the leader in question is a bona fide criminal, on probation, who had violated that probation many times, well....I think I don’t have to continue.

Your statements are not lost in my memory hole. I as you remember very well those thousands of communications that we all participated in those first four years or so regarding Iraq. I only wish that this site could have retained in full the whole thousand posts or so many of us had discussed in often detail. And that goes for what Steven Hayes could have donated to this site as well.

"The fact is it has been staffed at senior ranks, by liberal academics for some time now."
And may I humbly submit the Department of State. Of course in that particular case we can go back to the days when General George S. Patton was getting ready to ship on his mission to northern Africa. No response required. Some of us here, date back in time with learned collective reading. Meant more for those young wonderful conservatives among us to consider.

I think all Freepers should go back in time and examine the multitude of what where classified as dual use chemical agents, the proven nerve gas extermination carried out by Saddam's goons on the Marsh Arabs, most all other Shiite Arabs in mostly the lower portions of Iraq, the extermination of the Kurds in northern Iraq using nerve gases, such as VX, and Sarin never gas production, as well as use.
The many chemicals that where not to be sold to Iraq but where via. the French and other European nations, the centrifuges, the special furnaces used specifically in the refining processes attached to uranium ore refining, sold to them via. the East German company, forget their name, and a multitude of other things the Iraqi where not to have been able to purchase during that long "food for oil" program.
Memories seem to be short at this site on some accounts.
And let no one forget. The mental sets that would have been found just in the CIA during those eight years of Clinton, along with pressures from an increasing leaning to the far left in many cases Department of State.
Let us not forget those long discourses from so many in the L/MSM about how the Iraqi played the ahhhemmm.... inspectors of various agencies for the fool.
Then don't forget the French laughing into Collen Powell's face, that Iraq was innocent. Yea. Where did those over if I remember correctly, 600 million tons of French artillery shells and other ordnance come from, that in so many cases in the first two years plus, become among the first EID's the goons used against the American and coalition forces.
25K per Muslim martyr against Israeli comes to mind as well, as well as all those scud missiles Iraq lobed into Israeli from the bases just north west of ar Rutba, in the mid northern Iraqi desert.
The lists can be expanded on in quite detail all we carefully examined in those opening years of the Iraqi invasion at this site as well as many others.
No response required. I just through in a few examples where the Clinton then Bush administrations realized Saddam had to be neutralized. Let us not forget those speeches made by the VP. Al Gore as how Saddam had to be taken out eventually.

Great post, your memory serves you well. I’ve wondered about the same thing.

I’ve thought about this myself. I think some inspectors on the ground in Iraq didn’t want to find anything.

Does anyone know where the results of the lab tests of the “pesticides” could be found?
