Michele Bachmann links Rick Perry on HPV vaccine to Solyndra

Reporting from Costa Mesa— Michele Bachmann, struggling to regain her footing in the GOP presidential contest, Friday assailed rival Rick Perry, saying he abused his power as governor of Texas and rewarded political donors in a manner similar to President Obama.

(snip)

She compared it to the federal controversy unfolding around Solyndra, a solar equipment maker that received a $535-million federal loan guarantee and which went bankrupt last month. Republicans have suggested that the guarantee was pushed by the White House to reward a major campaign donor with ties to Solyndra's biggest shareholder, a charge the Obama administration denies.

Bachmann also sought to tie Perry's effort, which was ultimately blocked by the Texas Legislature, to Obama's healthcare law in a Web video and fundraising appeal to supporters in which she dubs his efforts as "Perrycare," a riff on the "Obamacare" label that some use to describe the president's healthcare reform package.

(snip)

Bachmann received credit for calling Perry out on the matter during a debate Monday night, but she quickly stumbled by claiming that the vaccine was dangerous and could cause "mental retardation." According to the CDC and physicians, even among people who have the most severe reactions, the vaccine does not cause cognitive disability.

Bachmann repeatedly refused to walk back on her remarks, saying she had heard from a mother whose daughter experienced such a reaction.

“....Perry just sits there?! Is he ever going to respond, maybe even counterattack?”

Oldest rule of politics: when your opponent is digging a hole to bury him/herself, don’t get in the way.

They were working on and may have now a vaccine for males.

If you’re trying to say Perry in some how anti-women’s rights, one of the major reason he did this was because of a friend who died ot cervical cancer.

Never forget that his TEF program was created by the people’s elected representatives in the legislature and funding comes via their approval. The spending of the funds requires the unamious agreement of the Governor, Lt. Governor and the Speaker of the House.

Damn these people that won’t let a state operate the way it so desires. It hasn’t a damn thing to do with them but they want to make it sound like something nefarious.

“Oldest rule of politics: when your opponent is digging a hole to bury him/herself, don’t get in the way.”

Big problem with trying to apply that old saw to this situation.

First, the polls already are showing her attacks are hurting Perry, both on the misuse of Executive Order issue, and the Crony Capitalism issue.

Second, she is not Perry’s real opponent. If she is digging a hole for herself with media playing up the allegation of bad-effects of the Gardisil serum issue, so what? Her campaign is going nowhere anyway - she is not the threat to Perry. Her digging a hole really does not help Perry, unlike if she were his only opponent in the race.

No, I did not say that in any way, shape, or form.

In fact, I believe Perry to be very pro-women.

But, as Perry himself admitted, he made a mistake. Bigger than he realizes.

"Gardisil did not stick when Kay Bailey Hutchinson tried that technique. So it is doubtful it will work this time."

Sums it neatly. It is as if Ed (before he split) and Bachmann-Gardasil Overdrive watched Hutchison's playbook and said 'it didn't work merely because Kay Bailey wasn't shrill enough'.

What just slays me is when this originally went down in '07 I was all over our very few Gardasil threads we had going calling Perry everything but a white man, and it's amazing to see the same words lose all their effective power when spit out by a cross-eyed loon.

It appears over the past week that MB’s plan was to be the pitbull for Romney in attacking Perry, in exchange for at least consideration on his short list for the VP slot and/or Romney’s paying off her campaign debt. I don’t see it particularly having helped either, and she has buried herself as to any possible VP selection.

In a few short days she’s made herself radioactive, even among those on this board who at one time held out hope for her candidacy. If you see that as helpful to her in ANY role, including Congress, we certainly have different perspectives. My beet is that the “Tea Party Caucus” will soon find another spokesperson to represent them and to be their public face.

You are overreacting. This is not nearly as bad as Slick Perry’s stand on immigration and the borders.

Bachmann’s money will now dry up.

Major donors can’t trust her not to charge them with illegal quid pro quo.

WHY are you writing this to me? You referenced my post #20, which said "I’m liking Bachman less and less these days. I wish she’d just go away." Or are you just trying to pick a fight with anyone, even those who agree with you?

You are overreacting. This is not nearly as bad as Slick Perry’s stand on immigration and the borders.

Univision: Governor, let me ask you about immigration. How many undocumented immigrants are there in Alaska?
Sarah Palin: I don't know, I don't know. That's a good question.

Univision: As governor, how do you deal with them? Do you think they all should be deported?

Sarah Palin: There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant - there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants - not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration.

Univision: Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or 13 million undocumented immigrants?

Sarah Palin: No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. They've got to follow the bar, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.

Univision: To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?

Sarah Palin: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

Univision: What is your strategy? How are you planning to win the latino vote?

Sarah Palin: I will tell you, I wish that there were more hours in the day so that we can get out there and to more of the communities with such the strong Latino vote that is out there and really tell them that we desire to work for them. We are asking them to hire us and let us work for them.

Who would ever contribute to her campaign now? Every nickel that is sent to her will be considered a quid pro quo bribe.

Perry has the ability to admit when he's made a mistake and then learn from the mistake.

Bachmann can neither admit her mistakes nor learn from them. She is not presidential material. At this point one has to question whether she is even congressional material.

I have nothing to disagee with in your post there.

If Bachmann is tired of having to fight the radicals so hard for the congressional seat up there in Minnesota every two years, I’m sure she could be extremely effective in unwinding the damage Sebelius is doing with that 105 billion dollars she is wasting trying to implement Obamacare. After all, prior to these debates, I always saw Bachmann’s opposition to Obamacare as her signature issue.
