Michele Bachmann links Rick Perry on HPV vaccine to Solyndra

Reporting from Costa Mesa— Michele Bachmann, struggling to regain her footing in the GOP presidential contest, Friday assailed rival Rick Perry, saying he abused his power as governor of Texas and rewarded political donors in a manner similar to President Obama.

(snip)

She compared it to the federal controversy unfolding around Solyndra, a solar equipment maker that received a $535-million federal loan guarantee and which went bankrupt last month. Republicans have suggested that the guarantee was pushed by the White House to reward a major campaign donor with ties to Solyndra's biggest shareholder, a charge the Obama administration denies.

Bachmann also sought to tie Perry's effort, which was ultimately blocked by the Texas Legislature, to Obama's healthcare law in a Web video and fundraising appeal to supporters in which she dubs his efforts as "Perrycare," a riff on the "Obamacare" label that some use to describe the president's healthcare reform package.

(snip)

Bachmann received credit for calling Perry out on the matter during a debate Monday night, but she quickly stumbled by claiming that the vaccine was dangerous and could cause "mental retardation." According to the CDC and physicians, even among people who have the most severe reactions, the vaccine does not cause cognitive disability.

Bachmann repeatedly refused to walk back on her remarks, saying she had heard from a mother whose daughter experienced such a reaction.

Just a heads-up, you spelled “permanent” wrong in your tagline.

Details, logic - who pays attention to such matters anymore?

The TEF isn’t just a one person item in which that person can do as they please with the money. Use of the money must be unamiously agreed to by the Governor, Lt. Governor and Speaker of the House. This business incentive fund was created by legislation in 2003. So there are more than just the Governor involved in it’s founding, funding and operation.

Bring on the jobs.............. Keep Texas working.

What an idiot. She was running a great campaign, and was winning - or did win - that entire debate by taking it over. Then she said an idiotic thing on Greta, and refused to back down. She has fallen to pieces ever since. It is just pathetic.

Just because she’s been dinged up as a messenger, doesn’t mean that her messenge isn’t legitimate and important.

That's true. But this messenger lost credibility by being dishonest and/or ignorant of the facts before speaking.

Seems to be a pattern with this candidate.

I disagree on the HPV issue, at least as far as her claims that it causes retardation. That just about did it for me. You can’t take just one person’s claims, without any research, without any peer review, and pretend it’s a fact. The vaccine might have its problems—stick with those, don’t make up nonexistent problems. As a result, as far as I’m concerned, she has NO credibility on this issue at this point.

“Bow out gracefully”

Too late. I’d settle for her not letting the proverbial door smack her on the butt on the way out.

Bachmann repeatedly refused to walk back on her remarks, saying she had heard from a mother whose daughter experienced such a reaction.

If true, this is conclusive evidence that Bachmann has severly impaired judgment and would be a horrible choice. No one in their right mind would risk a campaign for the presidency on the unsubstantiated word of one blubbering anonymous face in the crowd.

The woman who planted this discredited BS may well have been a shill for some other candidate, but I guess that never occurred to Bachmann. She needs to quietly bow out and go back to the congress.

Bachmann really missed it when she didn't jump all over Perry's remark...."I find it insulting that you think I can be bought for $5,000.00"...or words to the affect....what can you be bought for Mr. Perry, if not $5,000.00 then what?

Her over the top response is somewhat damaging......

“According to the CDC and physicians, even among people who have the most severe reactions, the vaccine does not cause cognitive disability. “

I don’t know if death is considered to be a “severe reaction”, but I suppose it is technically correct to say that death is not severe cognitive disability. To be disabled I suppose one has to be alive.
