MINNEAPOLIS -- Eleanor Mondale, a vice president's daughter who carved out her own identity as a broadcast journalist and gossip magnet, has died at her home in Minnesota. She was 51.

Family spokeswoman Lynda Pedersen says Mondale died Saturday.

Mondale had been diagnosed with brain cancer years earlier.

The daughter of former Vice President Walter Mondale and his wife, Joan, Eleanor Mondale had been off the air at WCCO-AM in Minneapolis since March 2009. That's when she announced her brain cancer had returned a second time.

Mondale had surgery to remove the tumor in August 2009. After surgery, she returned to her Prior Lake farm, where she lived with her third husband, musician Chan Poling (PAHL'-ing).

And a third tie-in: Sen. Charles Percy has died, who himself lost an adult daughter.

And a fourth: Valerie Percy who was killed was a twin.

Her sister Sharon is married to J.D. Rockefeller IV, Democratic Senator from West Virginia.

"You have no idea. My daughter and only child died suddenly in October, 2009. She left a husband and 18 month old daughter. We will never get over it."

My dear fellow Freeper, please except my most heartfelt condolences on the tragic loss of your precious daughter. I too have an only child who is a daughter and, though I may try to imagine your feelings, I know that I can't possibly conceive of the level of pain that you have experienced and are still experiencing. All I can say is how very sorry I am you and your family and that I will remember you in my prayers.

I didn’t agree with her politics, but she was a very beautiful young woman...I remember being very impressed with her when her dad ran for President.

Rest in peace, Eleanor.

She was legendary in North Jersey/South NY in early 80s. Flaming lib, but wow, she knew how to have a great time. RIP.

Thank you for recalling for us all the beautiful “Ode of Remembrance” written in 1914 by the Englishman Laurence Binyon.

It was for the fallen of WWI but it is appropriate and comforting when thinking of other youthful lives cut short.

Lewinsky Was One Of 'Hundreds' Of Clinton's Affairs In The White House - Morris

...One target of Lewinsky's wrath was Eleanor Mondale, the CBS newswoman and daughter of former Vice President Walter Mondale. Lewinsky threw a fit outside the White House just weeks before her affair with Clinton became public, when she learned Clinton was meeting with Mondale at the same time Secret Service guards denied her access.
