It should bring a tear to your eye. ;)

It's a wonderful institution, the USAF. In the Army and Marine Corps, enlisted are sent by officers to die. In the Navy, if a ship goes down, drowning is an equal opportunity killer.

But in the USAF, we pat our officers on the butt, put them in fast jets, and send THEM off to fight and die.

Meanwhile, I have a swivel chair, desk and coffee cup to attend to.

Seriously, God bless the men that fly and fight.

I enlisted Nov 1971 and separated May 1977. It was a great time to serve and a memorable time for me personally. I don’t regret a day; not the low pay, the struggles raising two girls or training an obstinate spouse in the ways of the world east of the Sierra Nevada. (Such a snob was she)

Lackland AFB (basic) to Chanute AFB (weather school) to Fort Sill, OK (Henry Post AAF) back to Chanute (Forecaster school) then a final duty at Grissom AFB, IN.

God Bless the USAF.

Oh, hell no. My parents were married.

My enlistment expired with me an NCO. Just the way God meant.

Well, since my grandfather (USN, QMC, LT, 28 years, WWI, Caribbean Wars in the 20’s, China in the 30’s, WWII);
my father (USN, Korean War);
my older brother (USN, OCS/LT, USS Sunfish, etc);
me (USN/NROTC-A&M, nuke/EDO/shipyards);
and my sister (USN/EMCS/retired) were already in the Navy ... You’d figure my younger brother would join the Navy after he got his scholarship to A&M.

Nope.

He just retired from the USAF - Said the Air Force had better commissaries, cleaner newer bases, and better officer clubs.

But my youngest brother wanted Annapolis - rather than A&M (?????) for some strange reason - so he stayed wet. ANd had a joint retirement with John after 20 at the USAF base.

I started out my career as a firefighter in the AF, went to tech school at Chanute. Lord, I hated that place. Retrained as an air traffic controller and my first assignment in my new career field was Scott. Lord, I loved that place.

I enlisted in 1975 and spent six years underground on a ICBM launch crew in Kansas.

Earned my commission and then spent four years underground on ICBM launch crew in North Dakota. Went on to maintenance and then weapons design then retired.

Even though morale in the missile field was not always the best (we were always given a back seat to the fly boys) I would put that blue uniform on again in a heartbeat and do it all over again.

I joined in June of 1971 and also did the Lackland to Chanute thing for weather school. I always thought the Air Force was formed on December 27, 1947, though. Where does this September date come from?
