Wisconsin education officials have ordered a high school to change its sports nickname from the Indians.

An alumnus of Berlin High School north of Milwaukee complained to the state Department of Public Instruction about the use of the nickname. That opened the door to the state ordering the school to change it.

Since it’s Berlin City, it should be “Turks”

If all native American or Indian names are done away with, there will be a lot of blank spaces on American maps.

The crazy part of this is that the State of Wisconsin OWNS the tech schools and they OWN one named Indianhead Tech at Rice Lake, WI.

It just happened in my hometown of Menomonie, Wisconsin. We have been the Menomonie Indians mascot logo for the last 75-80 yrs or so. Then a couple of UW-Stout activists (commies) and a bunch of the libturd school teachers & administrators & liberal school board banned the use of “Indians”, and just within the last couple of weeks a new “mascot” logo (aka Mavericks or Mustangs -— Ooooo what daring ingenuity) has been chosen and the school is hyping this with Ohhhh so much enthusiasm & hype! Apparently the new logo & mascot will be unveiled in some garish, hyped display. Makes me wanna puke. Rat bastard liberals can never leave anything alone. I hate em with a passion.

Screw the Indians already.

Rename the team the Berlin “Germans”.

In either this, or the OP’s complaint, were American Indians ever asked their view? In a country that proudly flaunts the likes of Fighting Irish and Minnesota Vikings, why not give our red skinned brethren a chance to weigh in on the matter? I understand that objections are far, far from unanimous among them. Some of them have even gotten savvy and licensed their own tribe name.

>>> That is stupid. Since people love their teams, obviously the “Indians” are loved not disrespected. People always want something to complain about.>>>

Don’t go bringing logic into this. But to prove your point, a few years ago some of these same PC police were trying to get UMass to change their nickname FROM Minutemen - because the Minutemen were of course a bunch of white guys and we can’t be glorifying white guys.

With Indians, Redskins, Seminoles, Warriors, and all “native American’ related names, they say we must change it because we are degrading them.

So liberal idiots, please make up your mind: does an athletic nickname glorify and honor or demean the mascot? Of course any thinking person knows it honors - or actually - is really just a fun way to separate teams.

I live in Richmond, Va. We just changed the name of our ball team from the “Braves” to the “Flying Squirrels”. The ones in my backyard seem pissed about it.

This kind of crap is happening on a weekly basis and it’s ridiculous. I’m Belgian by decent and would be thrilled to have a high school have the “Fightin Belgians” as a nickname. Unfortunately us Belgies are second only to France in our propensity to aquiesce.

Perhaps folks from Florida can clarify this, but as I understand it, the Seminole tribes in Florida have been a key in fighting the political correct libs who want Florida State to drop Seminoles as their mascot.

They know that Florida State football is the main reason anyone ever utters the word “Seminole” anymore, and that the use of that name is meant to honor the bravery and fighting spirit of Seminole warriors. So they do like it.

Again, Florida folks may debunk this, but that has been my understanding....
