The New Most Dangerous Cities In America (Drum Roll... Here are your top 25)
Business Insider ^ | 09/19/2011 | Leah Goldman and Kevin Lincoln

For the fifth year in a row, crime is down in the United States, according to the FBI. The 2010 final statistics released today show a 6.0% drop in violent crimes from last year's report -- better than the 5.5% announced in the preliminary findings in May.

Violent crime is down 13.2% from 2006 and 13.4% from 2001.

But parts of the country are getting worse.

Flint, Michigan -- the most violent city in America -- saw a 10% increase in violent crime over last year, with 2,208 violent crimes per 100,000 people. Rust Belt neighbor Detroit was only slightly safer.

The cities on this list are ranked by violent crimes, including murder, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault, per 100,000 people.

The pure Michigan campaign would be a lot more effective and cheaper if they allowed us to promote Michigan ourselves.

Set up and administer a website for Michigan lovers to post pictures and stories instead of the expensive ads with pictures of golf courses.

Kid Rock showed clearly that business and people are far more effective than government.

Random thoughts:

-A little surprised Gary, Indiana didn’t make the list. They’re usually good a top 15 spot on these sorts of surveys.

-Also a little surprised to see New Haven make the list. I knew Hartford was bad as far as crime, but for some reason I had it in my mind that New Haven was sort of on par with Greenwich as far as being home to the well-to-do crowd. Guess I was way wrong on that one, LOL.

-St. Louis making the list is a bummer. My folks, when they first got married, lived in St. Louis County. Not the city proper, but nearby (Glasgow Village). From what I understand, the old neighborhood is pretty much unrecognizable from those days.

...and then the unions and DemonRATS arrived to destroy all traces of prosperity. They're very skilled at that job.

The last few look like a virtual statistical tie, they are so close. Chicago not on the list at all?

It looks like it’s bad luck to be called Springfield. Both Springfield, IL (capital city of IL) and Springfield, MA (nothing special in particular) are up there in crime.

When I am heading home and driving up 23 from Ohio would you PLEASE find a way to remove that new “Welcome” border sign and put the old one back?

Thank you. :-)

It’s a crying shame to see, but while America tolerates “community organizers” (more like disorganizers), black rabble will be roused. Get color politics out of the picture and the violent crime quotient tied to black communities will fall.

I remember a few years ago that some FReepers scoffed when I said that regardless of the law you need to be armed in St. Louis.

I see they made # 3.

Presumably you mean security provided by entities/individuals OTHER than local law enforcement.

Good grief....Chicago didn't make the list AT ALL?

Eight people were blown away over the weekend....mostly in black areas......probably set a new record.

Chicago-Way Obama probably told Mayor Emanuel to adjust the statistics....and after seeing the horse's head in bed with him in the morning, Rahm did just that.

Wow, 2 of the top ten are the two nearest urban areas (Little Rock and Memphis). People ask me why I own so many guns and continually purchase ammunition. This is why.

DC is ranked as the 15th most dangerous city in the US but in the list right below that, it is the 12th best city in the world. It says, “Try one of these instead.” So if you don’t like dangerous DC, you can try best city DC.

Hmm. More proof that these lists are usually garbage.

Also, for Cleveland and Stockton, they highlight the auto theft rate? Is that the best they can do for “violent” crime?

“Connecticut, two mentions in the top 15!!”

Well at least we have something going for us. At least we are not stagnant. I do notice that the crime rate is way up here in Glastonbury. We have had an epidemic of jay walkers. The whole culture is going to hell in a handbasket!!

The most dangerous list complete with these pictures would be interesting.
