It's meant to be racist, and it's meant to be discriminatory.
But the controversial "Increase Diversity Bake Sale" hosted by the Berkeley College Republicans is still on, the club's president said, despite "grossly misguided comments" and threats aimed toward supporters of the University of California Berkeley student group.
During the sale, scheduled for Tuesday, baked goods will be sold to white men for $2, Asian men for $1.50, Latino men for $1, black men for $0.75 and Native American men for $0.25. All women will get $0.25 off those prices.
The bake sale is meant to draw attention to pending legislation that would allow California universities consider race or national origin during the admission process.
"We agree that the event is inherently racist, but that is the point," BCR President Shawn Lewis wrote in response to backlash to the event. "It is no more racist than giving an individual an advantage in college admissions based solely on their race (or) gender."
Berkeley's student government, the Associated Students of the University of California, held an emergency Senate meeting late Sunday to discuss the issue and passed a resolution that, in part, "condemns the use of discrimination whether it is in satire or in seriousness by any student group."
"I completely support the idea of BCR -- or any students on campus -- (having) political discussion," ASUC President Vishalli Loomba said. "I think student members of BCR have a full right to express their feelings, but I don't necessarily think this tactic is constructive. I strongly encourage them to engage in this dialogue in a more constructive manner, such as a forum or a town hall meeting.'
But the bake sale is intended to be a direct, "physical" response to an ASUC-sponsored phone bank -- also scheduled for Tuesday -- where students will be encouraged to call...

Brilliant.
The whole exercise puts the lie to the idea that Leftwingtards seek non discrimination or that they believe in free speech.
They are uncovered as the Neo-Nazi POS they actually are.
Go Republicans, Go.
They always take flack for it but it's a perfect representation. The libs and progressives on campus refuse to think and see what this action really means.
I do hope he didn't just recently adopt that name. Much better to have something like that INHERITED!
Ha, liberals are such cry babies when their own philosophies and politics are the subject of satire... they, the heros of a just society, ha! The more they piddle with “social justice” the more injustice they produce.
In other words--I can't control the venue, so I don't like it.
The Aunt Pittypats are swooning over an educational demonstration. Perhaps if one added a banana, a chain saw, a quadruped and a jar of excrement, and removed all clothing of course...that would be fine with them.
So, native-American woman can get the stuff for free.
Then, they can set up their own bake sale and undercut the Young Republicans and put them out of business.
Truth is, that's exactly how Federal contracting is being done right now.
Thanks for posting, ShadowAce! This is a brilliant idea. I laughed when I read some of the students bought a cupcake to throw at them or to simply knock it off the table. Welcome to conservative anger....
If they did the exact same thing, but said it was “to show the income difference due to evil racists and capitalist greed” they would have all gotten hero awards for their ‘sensitivity’.
I wish there were ‘Like’ buttons on a post, ‘cuz I liked yours.
They can't bear to see their pet projects being mocked.
Obama would be charged 1.38 right? (1/2 of white man price plus 1/2 of black man price)
Berkeley has Republicans!?! Who knew!
Actually, to make the scenario more realistic, the Republican group would be required to pay Eskimos to take their merchandise, since Eskimos are always first in line at the Federal trough.
I’ve seen it happen.
Ain’t diversity grand?
“”I completely support the idea of BCR — or any students on campus — (having) political discussion,” ASUC President Vishalli Loomba said. “I think student members of BCR have a full right to express their feelings, but I don’t necessarily think this tactic is constructive. I strongly encourage them to engage in this dialogue in a more constructive manner, such as a forum or a town hall meeting.’
“Constructive,” to a liberal, means conforming to whatever the liberal wants you to do. If any liberal is offended (and liberals are offended by EVERYTHING) it’s NOT “constructive” (by their definition, of course). Thus, by their “reasoning,” Republicans should never do ANYTHING, and certainly never do anything liberals don’t approve of, because it’s not “constructive”.
Glad to see some people getting in their faces about THEIR inherent racism. It’s way past time we stop condoning their childish and destructive behavior.
Great post! You are exactly right that federal contracting is one of the most racist systems going. Here, minorities are given all the advantages.
“and put them out of business.”
That should have been the objective of the bake sale - go bankrupt. The Young Republicans kinda caved to the liberal line by begging off the profits and donating them to an unmentioned charity.
IMHO, the price scale should have started with the white guys paying the dead cost of the cup cakes and everyone else getting a subsidy, leaving the bake sale in the hole. That puts a finer point on the argument.
“I think it was the liberals who are angry..”
Darn! I was thinking that a simple bake sale (to show the disparity) was hitting home with some. Sort of like the “experiment” where the “A” students had to trade their grade to the “D” students in the name of “fairness and equity”.
