As the Tea Party's popularity fades and the country grows increasingly tired of partisan bickering, Fox News chief Roger Ailes is making what he calls a “course correction.” Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin “became a bit of a branding issue for us,” he tells Howard Kurtz in Newsweek. Republican candidates still consult Ailes: when Rick Perry was still weighing a presidential bid, he stopped by Ailes's office and confided he was worried about being able to raise money, and Mitt Romney took Ailes out for a pasta dinner. But Ailes also engineered the Republican primary debate for maximum reality-television conflict, aiming tough questions geared toward the weaknesses of each candidate and prompting them to tear into each other.

The whole idea that Fox News is a right wing propaganda machine is laughable. It just seems that way because they actually feature a few conservatives with their own shows. Fair and Balanced is a marketing gimmick to get you to watch.

Foxnews is more Republican than Conservative. They backed Rudy last election and this election they are backing Romney.
Nothing wrong with that, but just be aware of their bias and broadcast it to those that believe everything they say.

Ailes didn’t say any of the things you suckers are braying about. Howard Kurtz said those things. Fall for leftist spin much? You could read the Newsweek piece for yourself and see what Ailes did and didn’t say, but that would be a hassle I guess.
Fox can find out how fast they can become has been’s. I don’t know any conservative who really relies on the Networks or Cable for their news. When and if we watch we watch Fox,,but it can go zero with no impact on us.

I think Beck pulled out of Fox at the right time. I think Beck was seeing the shift of fax before a lot of have.
The question really is . . .
Is Fox leaving the “Conservative” Republican Party, or is the “Conservative” Republican [Tea] Party leaving Fox.

No. It’s all about “positioning.” Fox is labeled as “right wing” by the left because to acknowledge they have a much more even keel coverage would be akin to admitting the extreme leftist bias of the alphabet soup stations.
In order to protect their propaganda arm the left will label anyone that isn’t in the bag for the left as right wing extremists........whether that is the case or not. In FOX’s case NOT.

If Ailes thinks he’s going to succeed as just another liberal news station, spewing the same gunk as CNN, ABC, See-BS, etc, he’s wrong.
He will loose to those stations in the ratings because the bulk of FOX’ supporters will abandon him.
I smell a Romney/Chris Christie conspiracy stinking up what was once a “fair and balanced” network.
The frequency of appearnces by those two shmoos Dana Perrino and Karl Rove as well as the rhetoric of people like Kraphammer and Crystal and Hume point to this.

Why would any conservative politician seek candidacy advice from anyone in the media? Fox News might have more conservative talking heads (and I stress, might!) than the other outlets, but to seek out advice from anyone in the media seems a death nell to a candidate’s chances for victory IMO.
That was my first thought, too.
Ailes is trying to play some sort of kingmaker game. I think that Sarah Palin caught on to him very early on and refused to be manipulated by him, and that’s why Fox has behaved like it has since Tucson.

He confirms that O’Reilly hates Sean Hannity. I could tell that they didn’t get along, because the last time they ever did anything together was when O’Reilly promoted his book on Hannity’s radio show, which was in 2001. After that O’Reilly tried radio, and competed against Hannity in NY.
Do they have $1 Mil a year contracts with Ailes?

Really the twitter world has encompassed the rightwing theory much better than Fox and more to the point and descriptive than fox could ever be....!
As for breaking news....there is no better coverage than CNN for the first few days before the political slant weighs in so I am good...lol
For example, here is the actual Newsweek sentence from which the title of this thread supposedly takes it's support: Glenn Beck’s inflammatory rhetoric—his ranting about Obama being a racist—“became a bit of a branding issue for us” before the hot-button host left in July, Ailes says
Note: It is about Glenn Beck. It was the author that then threw in that Palin was "also" a branding issue, even though they don't quote Ailes as saying that. And given that Palin still works for Fox, it seems clear Ailes doesn't see her as an issue -- he's had her critiquing the debates for his network, after all.
There is some pretty disturbing stuff about how the fox debate folks conspired to cause trouble between the candidates; no mention that Palin was involved in that.
Meanwhile, here's a quote from Newsweek that belies the notion that Ailes is turning to the left, or to moderation: How do we know they were worshiping?” he demands. “I think the AP is so far over the hill, they’ve become left wing, antiwar. Gotta watch their copy.”
Here's another that clearly puts him on the side of ending "crony capitalism", far from the hysterical claims of some posting here that he is trying to trash Palin to protect crony capitalism:
“Are our producers on board on this ‘Regulation Nation’ stuff? Are they ginned up and ready to go?” Ailes, who claims to be “hands off” in developing the series, later boasts that “no other network will cover that subject … I think regulations are totally out of control,” he adds, with bureaucrats hiring Ph.D.s to “sit in the basement and draw up regulations to try to ruin your life.” It is a message his troops cannot miss.
And here's just a FUNNY attack on Bill O'Reilly: Ailes says O’Reilly has “moderated” his views and that “Beck scared him”—meaning Beck was so popular on the right that O’Reilly had to find a different niche.
Also: Ailes seems to relish the feuding among his stars, saying, “O’Reilly hates Sean and he hates Rush because they did better in radio than he did.”)
Kurtz knew which buttons to press on the right, throwing in some unsupported "Ailes Attacks Palin" comments, and it got the predictable but unfortunate response from some of the Palin supporters, who didn't consider the source and look for themselves.
I've always maintained that FOX News isn't conservative, they're just not as overtly liberal as the other networks.

This has been the talking point from libs, squishy GOP types, emails from lib friends and the LSM for about the last six weeks. One thing they do is stick to the talking points, wheather based in reality or not.
