“The final work that was published contains most of the stories that Mr. McGinniss complains were nothing more than ‘tawdry gossip’ that amounted to the wishful fantasies of disturbed individuals,” Tiemessen writes. “Since both your company, and the author, clearly knew the statements were false, admitted they had no basis in fact or reality, but decided to publish in order to harm Governor Palin’s family, you and Mr. McGinniss have defamed the Palins.”

Good points, but my concern is that it doesn’t really help Palin. I’ll also add that I’m very big into tort reform, and I abhor our civil court system and the way it is used. Heck, the media actually was defending her against McGinniss’ slime, and that storm has passed with McGinniss taking the much bigger hit to his career than Palin to her own.

Her suing won’t alter my opinion of her one way or another, though. If she wants to do it, I say go for it. I’m posting moreso about how it could affect her public image. I could be 100% wrong in my opinion as well. Thanks for being cordial, though!

I’m not a Perry-bot. Have I ever even posted a thread about Perry? I just didn’t think the outright lies being spread on FR were fair. If you notice, I had the exact same reaction when FReepers were falsely accusing Palin of being wrong on her Paul Revere story.

Or, does that not count?

Probably better to just let it slide and not make an issue about it.

That's the tack that George W. Bush took. Look where it got him.

Palin is a fighter. The bullies of the lamestream media picked on the wrong person. They thought they successfully "Dan Quayle'd" her in 2008 but they have been proven wrong. The hunted has become the hunter.

Mac - it doesn't take much reading on this piddly little thread to see that you're a total frigging idiot (or quite drunk).

I think it’s a bad move, and I can’t think of a national politician who has sued a book publisher for libel, but thanks for being reasonable in explaining your position.

If she sues, it would be a sure sign she will not run for President. It would just be too much fodder for her to have a lawsuit like this going on when she’s trying to get the nomination.

Seriously Michael, the way you follow me around FR and make personal attacks based on nothing but your imagination is a bit creepy and very dishonest.

Are you related to Joe McGinniss?

Gov Palin was not the only one defamed by McGinnis and RH but also her husband, children and father. What she may have been willing to take does not automatically extend to her family. Sarah is po’d and will avail herself of whatever legal remedies are available. Enough is enough.

TAKE EVERY DIME!.....these people must learn a lesson and if Palin gets a couple of million or several millions, then so be it.....

but since reputation is something that can rarely be repaired, $100million would be wonderful....

imagine if she wins, and starts a really active PAC with about $25,000,000 ....

Well, if she becomes President, her family should get ready for much more of this. If she is done with politics, then it doesn’t really matter to her political career. If she is going to run in 2012, this lawsuit will be a big distraction and would make the Palins appear thin-skinned, IMO.

Also, would President Palin sue any news source or book author who she felt defamed her and her family after she won in 2012?

I can't either.

But, then, I can't think of a national politician who has been so brutally savaged -- without a shred of evidence -- by the media either.

I say: make them pay.

Except that it would be on the shelves and given the notoriety has gone down their would be no counter to what it says. People who don’t pay attention and simply pick the book off a shelf at the book store would take it as truth.

i don’t think “goofy” is a word to describe the incredibly malicious intend of the author and publisher. What they put in this POS is vile lies intended to cause serious damage to not only entire Palin family but to conservatives everywhere.

Bastards!

Palin is putting everyone on notice with this threat of legal action that malicious lies will be dealt with. After McGinnis is made an example of, I'd be surprised if it happened to that degree again. To call Sarah Palin ‘thin-skinned’ is to laugh. Nice try, though.

Fight fire with fire. They ran her out of office with ridiculous lawsuits. Turn about is fair play and I don’t like paying a lawyer a dime for anything. Tort reform is badly needed in this country but I will make an exception on this creep who moved in and spied on her family.

Regardless of speculation on Palin running or her chances. This guy is a creep and this publisher thought they would make a buck on his tabloid stories. Sue the crap out of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is possible to win.

I remember when Bear Bryant and Wally Butts sued “The Saturday Evening Post” for posting a false and malicious article about how Butts threw a game to Alabama.

There was a joke later which said the Post could not pay so Bear and Wally took over the magazine.

They changed it’s format and renamed it “Bear (Bare) Butts”.

I didn't say she was thin-skinned. I said it would make the Palins appear to be thin-skinned, IMO. I think a lawsuit would be disastrous for her chances in 2012 if she runs.

I read it earlier in the thread, but if the lawsuit moves forward, it's a clear sign she isn't running IMO. Also, didn't she go on FoxNews and accuse Rick Perry of crony capitalism without any proof of that serious charge? Should Perry sue Palin and FoxNews for that bit of slander?Should every politician just sue anyone who they feel defamed them?
