There are people out there claiming that the US government “chose” this Sinaola cartel — meaning that they cut some kind of deal with them to run out the other cartels. I don’t know much about that conspiracy theory, but I know it exists and pre-existed the F&F sale. Why they would choose to support one cartel over the others, I dunno. Maybe Machiavellian eg choose one to kill off the others because a monopoly is better than an endless murderous free-for all... or maybe worse.

My point is simply that if federal agencies were selling guns to the Sinaola cartel, it adds fuel to the fire. While they originally said the sale was a ‘sting operation’ to find out how guns flow, they are now saying there never was a sting setup. The fact that the guns went to the same group that elements in the government are alleged to support makes it seem a much larger criminal conspiracy involving several different federal agencies.

It's a typical organized crime tactic...We 'made' you, we can break you type of control.

I can only see one reason for not securing the southern border, especially after 9/11. Someones are getting very rich.

Did anybody ever fear that Sinaloa would have insufficient firepower, walked guns or no?

Governments have been involved in drug running for hundreds of years. Ever hear of the Boxer Rebellion? The British Empire in the nineteenth century was practically built upon the opium trade. Where do you think all the hundreds of billions in profits from the modern drug trade, made even greater from the illegal status of the product, end up? Wall St. and the City of London that's where. The added benefit to all this is that populations doped up on drugs, both legal and illegal, are much easier to loot and lord over.
