Palin attorney threatens to sue over new book (Don't threaten, DO IT!)
cbs ^ | 9/27/2011 | ap

An attorney for Sarah Palin is threatening to sue over a new book that he says defamed the Palins and contains "a series of lies and rumors."

John Tiemessen, in a letter to the publisher of Crown Publishing Group Monday, cites an email that author Joe McGinniss allegedly sent a blogger in January seeking substantiation for several rumors that have surrounded Palin's family. That email was posted online last week by Andrew Breitbart.

Tiemessen says McGinniss' book, "The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin," contains "most of" the stories that merely "amounted to the wishful fantasies of disturbed individuals."

Jonty30 took quite leap into smut pit.

Not only that, but the supposed "quote" from Rice did not come from an interview www.bossip.com did with Rice, but rather from McGinniss' book - the one full of lies!

I read a couple other stories while over on the bossip site. The amount of sleaze, unsubstantiated innuendo, and outright lies is beyond the pale. Excuse me while I go take a shower.

Come back to me when you stop being thirteen years old. Then we can have a mature discussion.

I guess you don't appreciate the irony in your above statement.

If they do sue then they had better be able to definitively disprove or discount each and every allegation in the book.

They do not. It's McGinniss that has to be able to PROVE definitively EACH and EVERY allegation in the book.

That article is quoting the book. One has to be a moron to post that here as proof. The email from Joe McGinniss already shows that he has no substantiation for what’s in the book. Surely you don’t expect us to fall for the same circular reasoning that you fell for do you? Every article that I can find refers back to the book for “proof”. There isn’t even a independent source for any statement from Rice. How dayum stupid do you take us here at FR for? You PDSers have pretty much wet you trouser legs on this one and the stench is offensive.

Court of public opinion, my friend. All a law suit would do is drag every allegation down Main street on the Fourth of July.

And, if even one is true or can be adequately presented as being true then McGinniss will have his victory and nobody will care one bit about the ninety-nine that may not be true.

I use the word "may" specifically because nobody here knows what is fact, what is lie or who is waiting to crawl out of the woodwork.

Her intimate life was never a big issue.

But you are making it an issue with your insinuation. So, you're either disingenuous or dishonest. Which is it?

The only reason you would threaten but not sue would be if there was some grain of truth in the book. Which tells me that she probably did have a youthful fling with the basketball player. The whole thing would get pretty messy beyond that.

As far as I am concerned, it probably did happen,

Based on what? The "quote" on bossip is from the book. The one that McGinniss email says cannot be substantiated. So you believe the original lie even though the author says he can't prove any of it and Random House lawyers urged caution.

The question is, since you make such a big deal out of it, will you publicly eat yours if it’s proven true?

It's already been proven untrue. In the email McGinniss sent he stated none of it could be proved.

And you lied in Post 20 stating that Rice had confirmed it when he had NOT.

I think McGinniss really screwed up and put some stuff in his book that we are going to find has crossed the line.

Also, I don't think that he quite gets the internet and that emails are forever.

Hoping I'm right and hoping the SOB gets what he deserves and his publisher does too.

I don't agree. The media circus that would result might well be enough to keep a mother from pursuing a lawsuit.

That's not what is happening here. The letter was to inform Random House of an intent to file a lawsuit and ordered them NOT to destroy ANY correspondence pertaining to the book.

There is no doubt that McGinness is a world class scumbag but that is not the point. Unless the palins are 100% squeeky clean on every single one of his allegations then they would be well advised to keep it out of court.

And, nobody here, no matter who blindly he adore the palins, knows the truth (not you).

McGinniss knows the truth. And his email stated that nothing could be proved.

BREAKING: Gov. Sarah Palin Sends Letter to Crown/Random House

Enclosed is an e-mail by your author Joe McGinniss. In this e-mail, Mr. McGinniss admits that your own lawyers instructed him that “nothing I can cite other than my own reporting rises above the level of tawdry gossip.”…

"“In a short time, we got to know a lot about one another…It was all done in a respectful way, nothing hurried..."

What was done in a respectful way and not hurried? Is there a little more context to this quote? I think Jonty30 is probably not alone in his interpretation of this quote IF this quote is all the info available. Just sayin'...

Honestly, I swear you Palinistas are like emotional middle school aged girls!

Glen Rice apparently is a class act. He didn’t say “yeah I knocked the bottom outta her hehehehehe” but what he said pretty much verifies there was a relationship in an incredibly respectful way.

Really, only SP and GR know for sure, you don’t even know that it didn’t happen.

So if it did, she can’t sue because they’d put Rice under oath and he’d admit it. If it didn’t, fine. We’ll see whether she really files suit or not. I suspect she won’t.

You people need to grow up. Who cares if she had sex with Glen Rice? Apparently you all do because you recoil from the though like Dracula recoils from a Crucifix.

Some of the, as you put it so rudely, "Palinistas" here also support Cain.

Keep up the sarcasm and you may be able to put a stop to that.

She INTERVIEWED him.

McGinniss said: “nothing I can cite other than my own reporting rises above the level of tawdry gossip.”

Good God! A lefty spins a pretty tale, ADMITS it's "tawdry gossip" and some are buying it? Don't tell me there aren't FReepers who buy every dirty lie the biased press spews. You're proof.

The AUTHOR of the spew says “nothing I can cite other than my own reporting rises above the level of tawdry gossip.” and you buy it?! Even the NY Times cried foul! If the left says it, it MUST be true, right? Bet you bought Dan Rathers story too.
