Hispanic population outstrips estimates

WASHINGTON, March 15 (UPI) -- At 38.7 million, the Hispanic population in the United States is larger than expected, an analysis of the 2010 Census by the Pew Hispanic Center indicates.

The 2010 Census counted nearly 600,000 more Hispanics than estimated in 28 states, the Pew Center said Tuesday.

The gap between the 2010 count and estimates of the Hispanic population by the Census Bureau were widest in states with relatively small Hispanic populations, Pew said.

It was more than 10 percent higher than expected in Alabama, Louisiana and Kansas.

"Hispanics are in some places growing faster than we had thought," said Pew demographer Jeffrey Passel. "This sort of broad pattern suggests immigration into these new areas was a bit higher."

Data released from 33 states indicated Hispanics accounted for 58 percent of population growth in the past decade.

The massive importation of noncitizens illegally by employers intent on breaking the law for profits is a stab in the back to all Americans, and foremost to people in, or trying for, "moveup" jobs, whose just compensation the hiring of illegals intentionally undercuts.

I guess the moral for us is to REQUIRE new citizens to learn English and learn to accept our culture, while keeping their own, should they so desire.

How about we not let masses of people colonize us from neighboring countries. What about securing our borders, choosing immigration on our terms, and assimilating immigrants.

Most illegal aliens certainly do turn in Census forms; remember, citizenship status is not one of the questions asked, and the information gathered about individuals is not released for 70 years. Check out the Hispanic population in South Texas and West Texas—no way that it would be anywhere near as high if illegal aliens weren’t turning in their forms.

I would be surprised if they weren't being counted somehow in Texas - Texas has been a minority-majority state for some time, with whites making up 45% of the state, Hispanics 38%, and African-Americans 12. Anybody who lives here and who travels around the state might even think those numbers are off and that the Hispanic population is higher than 38%.

To me it's similar to say the Romans in England or other parts of Europe, or the Vikings, although those groups you bring up could be used for a comparison. The Romans came in (or the Vikings), conquered everything, added to the gene pool and then started to fade into the background.

It's the same thing in the Americas except it might be happening more quickly - Europeans came in and conquered the standing civilizations just like the Romans and Vikings did, and for a few centuries were the dominant power, before being eventually overwhelmed by the original inhabitants (although more peacefully in our case). In our case, it's the descendants of the original Indians from Central and South America who are going to eventually overwhelm those who are of mostly European descent. Maybe not in the next 100 years, but definitely within a few hundred years.

The only way that trend could be reversed is if we opened ourselves up to mass immigration from Europe again, but there is no reason to do so.

That kind of rotten employer attitude is why unions came about. There used to be a social contract that the working class and middle class would fight wars and defend America. In return the capitalists were supposed to keep jobs in America. After the Cold War was over is when the push for free trade super intensified with NAFTA, GATT and other schemes to enrich a few and make the American middle classes paupers. Capital is King today and labor is stomped on except for Gov’t workers who steal from the taxpayers.

The slightest public improvements that are introduced to less advanced peoples leads to huge population increases. Hundreds of millions of people need to go somewhere.

I understand the population of Mexico is exploding and will be well over 200 million by 2050. Mexico is half the size of the US with not nearly the arable land that we have.

Historic migrations have never been stopped in the past.
