Governor Perry’s Muslim blind spot(pro-Sharia candidate?)
The Daily Caller ^ | 09/27/2011 | Tom Tancredo

Posted on 09/29/2011 3:06:35 PM PDT by Mrs. Don-o

At last week’s presidential debate in Florida, Rick Perry said something that made the audience gasp in disbelief. He said critics of in-state college tuition for illegal aliens “have no heart.” Welcome to Compassionate Conservatism 2.0.

The Perry tactic of debate by slander was an eye-opener for many conservatives, and it probably contributed to his poor showing in the Florida straw poll that followed the debate. Republicans are in no mood for a replay of the Bush amnesty plans.

Or Perry’s poor showing in the Florida straw poll might have something to do with a recent report about the highly touted “Texas jobs created by Perry’s pro-growth policies.” The Center for Immigration Studies has discovered that 81% of the 279,000 jobs created in Texas from 2007 to 2011 went to non-citizens, a high number of them illegal aliens.

What is not yet as widely known about Perry is that he extends his taxpayer-funded compassion not only to illegal aliens but also to Muslim groups seeking to whitewash the violent history of that religion. Perry endorsed and facilitated the adoption in Texas public schools of a pro-Muslim curriculum unit developed by Muslim clerics in Pakistan.

Perry’s connections to Muslim groups in Texas are well documented. A recent Christian Science Monitor story said, “Perry has attended a number of Ismaili events in Texas, brokered a few agreements between the state and Ismailis (including the legislation introducing Islamic curricula into Texas schools), and even laid the first brick at the groundbreaking ceremony for an Ismaili worship center in Plano in 2005.”

The Muslim Histories and Cultures (MHC) project was formalized in 2004 in a signed agreement between the University of Texas at Austin and Aga Khan University in Pakistan. The announcement of the MHC project credited Gov. Perry by name with being “instrumental” in its launch.

The agreement calls for an extensive program of bi-cultural teacher training funded jointly by both parties. More than 200 Texas teachers have been trained in the program, which is ongoing. The project’s curriculum units were initially available for viewing on the university’s website, but have since been scrubbed from the Internet. It appears Texas officials do not want the curriculum examined by Texas taxpayers.

Islam scholar Robert Spencer, head of Jihad Watch, examined the program and concluded, “The curriculum is a complete whitewash and it’s got the endorsement of Perry. It’s not going to give you any idea why people are waging jihad against the West — it’s only going to make you think that the real problem is ‘Islamophobia.’”

Perhaps Spencer exaggerates the curriculum’s bias? Examine it for yourself here.

Perry’s close ties to Muslim groups led the political blog Salon to headline a recent story: “Rick Perry: The pro-Sharia candidate?” Evidence in support of that theme comes from Gov. Perry’s refusal to support legislation sponsored by Texas Republican legislators to outlaw Sharia law in Texas.

Perry’s close alliances with pro-Islamic Republican activists like Grover Norquist give additional cause for concern. Norquist supports open borders and amnesty for illegal aliens and is well known in Washington, D.C. circles for his tireless efforts to build Republican bridges to pro-amnesty groups and to slander advocates of immigration enforcement as “racists.” Norquist also has close ties to the Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR), whose Houston chapter bragged in a recent newsletter that “Rick Perry’s relationship with Muslims may set him apart.” Precisely so, but not in a way that helped him with voters in the Florida straw poll.

What is it with Republican elites like Perry? Do they think Republican primary voters are stupid? Does Perry think he can talk tough in defending the Texas death penalty and then waffle on border security and taxpayer support for illegal alien children? Why does he think he can claim to be the “tea party candidate” while endorsing a whitewash of Islamic extremism in Texas schools?

Perry’s ties to Muslim groups is only one red flag among many. His poor performance in the Florida debate may well be the beginning of a meltdown.

(Tom Tancredo represented Colorado’s 6th Congressional District from 1999 until 2009.)

Here's a few words from the Globalist islamic Khan Perry has close association with as he spoke to a gathering of muslim investors and international guests overseas.....quite the eyeopener....as follows:

'Education'.. and development... have been 'at the heart of my own work',... over the past fifty years, .....the fundamental value of a 'universal' human bond... which both requires and validates our efforts to educate for... 'global citizenship'. ....

Educating 'for global economics' will also be essential to ensure that the failed economic systems of the past are replaced.....

....we (the Kahn) want to educate about comparative political systems, ...so that more and more people in the developing world will be able to make competent 'value judgements ....about their Constitutions..., their ...political systems, and how they can best develop approaches which are well tailored to their needs.

Public referenda, 'to sanction NEW Constitutions'.....'Together', we can help.... 'reshape the very definition of a well educated global citizen'..... And we can begin that process by bridging the learning gap which lies at the heart of what some have called a Clash of Civilizations, but which I have always felt was rather a Clash of Ignorances.

Moving beyond the Judeo-Christian cultures ...where it is most experienced,... it will have to make educators in other areas of the world into its newest stakeholders.....

This will probably mean developing more explicit expressions of a cosmopolitan ethic, FOUNDED IN UNIVERSAL HUMAN VALUES.

Clearly the Khan has Globalist/Universalist/Humanistic agenda based on islam as a prefereance..(since he is the khan). And Perry has encouraged and assisted in the Khans work in his state. NO WAY for America...no Way!!!!

This is clearly a Globalist/Universalist agenda of Kahns and of course nestled in the islamic belief of which he adheres...and Preey not only invited him and encouraged him he helped lay the first brick for the building of his Mosque

Sam...read down further in the thread the Kahns quotes of what his agenda is and how he really pulled the wool over Perry’s eyes into introducing islamic teachings into the school system...what the kahn says in the US is not wahat he’s preaching on an international scale.

IMO...Perry is on board with the globalist agenda educational wise or he would never have allowed this in his state.

Further as soon as this news had hit Perrry’s people were fast to scrub the net of any information which would have definately nailed Perry....they pulled the actual course outlines from the web and replaced it with a bogus one.

Lots of nasty stuff happening in the Perry campaign to keep what the voters need to know from what they think they know...including Texans.

Being a deep thinker doesn't mean you're always right. Tancredo's roots are in Reagan conservatism. That is one reason why so many of his fellow Coloradans backed him early on for potus in 2007. When he dropped out and endorsed Romney, he lost a great deal of respect and looked out of touch.

>>>>>The PROGRESSIVES want smear him with nativist groups.

No doubt liberals are out to get Tancredo. Liberals always target us conservatives.

The fact remains, John Tanton is a nativist, eugenicist and a white supremist. Tom Tancredo willfully and knowingly quoted a bogus study from CIS, one of Tanton's creations. That shows bad judgment on Tom's part. Sort of like when he endorsed Romney for potus in 2008.

Islam actually has a history. As a political movement, it is a major factor in the middle east.

Nobody is arguing that, and it's been taught in Texas schools going back to my kids as teenagers, and even when I was a kid (which is a long time ago). It can't be ignored and shouldn't be ignored. What's being brought up is why Perry actively tried to expand what is being taught statewide and why he wanted to present it in a better light. It's fine and dandy if the Aga Khan wants to go around preaching about how wonderful Islam is, but I'd rather not have our Governor trying to influence school curriculum when it comes to other religions.

This is from one of the districts' curriculum based on what Perry wanted:

The Muslim Histories and Cultures Project was born out of discussions between His Highness The Aga Khan and Texas Governor Rick Perry during the Summer 2002, when The Aga Khan was in Houston for the dedication of a new Ismaili Center. Both His Highness and Governor Perry agreed on the need for Texans to have a greater understanding of Islamic culture, and subsequently brought UT-Austin President Larry Faulkner into the discussions. Located in the state capital, Faulkner’s campus is well positioned to accomplish these goals. A series of meetings followed, with the project ultimately finding a home in UT-Austin’s College of Liberal Arts, under the guidance of Dean Richard W. Lariviere, in association with UT Liberal Arts (UT-LA), the college’s teacher preparation program.

In April 2004, the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and UT-Austin finalized a grant proposal that created the partnership that became known as the Muslim Histories and Cultures Program (MHC). Much has happened since the inception of the partnership. Creation and implementation of a model was of prime importance. MHC recruited and directly trained 80 teachers affecting approximately 15,150 students of World History and World Geography in ten key Texas districts during the two sessions conducted in 2005 and 2006. The purpose is two-fold 1) to fulfill Governor Rick Perry's desire to better educate Texas teachers on Muslim topics and 2) to train teachers to use a cultural lens approach to understanding other cultures. Governor Perry was instrumental in getting this program off the ground.

The curriculum for this project was developed at Harvard University and modified at the University of Texas at Austin.

The responsibilities of the participants are:

to attend the 10 seminars and complete the assigned readings.
to attend the January, April, and June meetings in Austin.
to create lessons concerning Islamic topics with a “cultural lens” approach tied to their grade level to share with other teachers.

Session One: Sources of Tradition

Session Six: Communities of Interpretation
Session Seven: Rise and Reach of Muslim Civilizations
Session Eight: Religion, Politics & Modernity: Competing Visions of Muslim Societies from the 18th & 19th Centuries

Lesson Plans and Strategies

If Obama was pushing for an expansion in teaching about Islam nationwide the way that Perry was pushing for it in Texas, people would be riled up. Instead, Perry does it and it's a good thing somehow.

Im not scared of conspiracies. And I have no problem with muslim history being taught, unless they only teach it. But the board that determines the curriculum is elected by Texans, so they must all be on board too.

But my point was that Tancredo’s arguments all either lacked facts, were part of an agenda, or guilt by association. My beef is with how Tancredo wrote the article.

Amazing how some of that stuff had been on those websites for years, and then mysteriously they disappear in the past month. I'm half expecting speeches that Perry gave in favor of open borders or guest worker programs to disappear off of the Governor's website.

If what you are saying about Perry and Muslims is accurate, he’s FINISHED in my book.

We should have ZERO tolerance for pandering Islamophiles.

THAT is one of the problems with Chris Christie and Mitch Daniels.

And I refuse to have anyone soft soap any crap about these bastards to me. I KNOW what they stand for, what they are doing and what they have done. They are bastards - every last one.

You again. Insults and slander. You obviously don’t know anything about Governor Perry. You support one of the other candidates or are a Dem parading as a Republican and trying to spout disinformation. Peddle your lies elsewhere.

Perry is NOT peddling Sharia or any other Islamic form of government. The Aga Khan is secular and the brother of actress Rita Hayworth’s daughter. He works with Governor Perry on charities. The Aga Khan and his wife also provides considerable financial to Israel in the form of charities. Nothing here except your desire to slander.

I know...I remember when someone was announcing the Perry supporters were scrubbing the net and to capture some of the articles etc. before they got to them. I went to the a site who had the islamic teaching agenda for their schools listed and watched it go while I was reading it!

By now they have certainly moved, altered and replaced much of it. Reminded me when the global warming e-mails were being dumped on the net...what a night that was..I was able to watch it occur and the workings of good people confirm etc. and locate the source. Never slept that night at all!

Please post what you know about the entire complaint being based on a false premise.

I posted this as a heuristic question to stimulate FReepers to share what they've got on either side. That's why Free Republic is valuable to me. That's why YOU are valuable to me: if you provide access to the facts.

Thank you.
