Bill Clinton wants more credit

Bill Clinton thinks he deserves more credit for reforming welfare and balancing the budget.

“I go crazy every time I read the conventional wisdom,” he said Friday night at his presidential library in Little Rock, Ark. “So part of the Republican narrative is that I was ‘saved’ from myself by the election of the Republican Congress [in 1994] that ‘forced me’ to do welfare reform and ‘made the balanced budget possible.’”

Clinton said reporters and commentators “keep saying this, overlooking all relevant facts.”

Clinton got plenty of credit from the Dinosaur Media at the time; far more than he deserved. He also got “credit” in the form of surviving a political scandal that would have forced the resignation of any President with a shred of decency, and an unbiased Media.

Just look at the DJIA charts. The economy started to take off just three days after the Congress became Republican.

I have a hard time finding Clinton accomplishments even in this fawning article.

"It's the economy, stupid" became a famous slogan, they apparently invented the WH "war room", and Clinton is some kind of Rosa Parks.

People forget how scandal-ridden the Bill Clinton administration was. Even this article has a hard time stating much of what he did right.

I’ve said that Barack Obama made me miss the relative modesty of Bill Clinton. And then Bill says something like this...

Bubba really doesn’t get enough credit into turning the White House into a teenage sex farce during his administration. Sort of like “American Pie” except it was “American Cigar”.

I didn’t even know that he ever went back to AR; thought he had outgrown the “Land of Opportunity.” People there will always give their Bill “credit.”

LA people similarly fawn now over the released-from-jail Edwin Edwards.

When I see this photo, I think of the people of AR who started him own his way as the unopposed attorney general candidate no less in 1976.

He vetoed the welfare reform bill twice before signing what amounted to the original bill.

True, but in the long run, the temporary slowdown in welfare growth matters not. It's out of control anyway

The former Mud Snail in Chief gets full credit for the Sub Prime mortgage market, allowing banks to trade in risky securities markets, and for non oil related players to speculate in the oil markets.

Surprised the most important Clinton error has not been mentioned yet. He let Bin Laden go. Just think, take out Bin Laden and 9/11 may not have happened. We would probably not have homeland security or be immersed in two wars.

Inaction has consequences Billy. Your failure to uphold your oath and duties as CinC have cost thousands of Americans their lives.

I’ll give Slick credit! Credit for paving the way for the only president to ever do more damage to America than Clinton himself did.

That’s a tight race for second place! I think Jimmah and Slick are neck and neck, it may be a photo finish.
