CBS News Reporter Says White House Screamed, Swore at Her Over Fast and Furious
The Weekly Standard ^ | 10/4/11 | MARK HEMINGWAY

Posted on 10/04/2011 11:06:38 AM PDT by Nachum

The Fast and Furious scandal, in which the Justice Department knowingly gave Mexican criminal gangs thousands of guns, just keeps escalating. The latest development centers around whether or not Attorney General Eric Holder lied to Congress about having knowledge of the controversial gun trafficking operation. Recently released documents say Holder was briefed about the operation long before he told the Judiciary Committee he was first aware of what was going on. (Holder now claims he misunderstood the question was being asked.)

What's more, CBS News investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson -- who's been covering the scandal from the beginning -- says in an interview on the Laura Ingraham Show today that the White House and Justice Department have taken to screaming at her for reporting on the story. You can listen to the full interview below, but here are the key excerpts from Attkisson:

In between the yelling that I received from Justice Department yesterday, the spokeswoman--who would not put anything in writing, I was asking for her explanation so there would be clarity and no confusion later over what had been said, she wouldn't put anything in writing--so we talked on the phone and she said things such as the question Holder answered was different than the one he asked. But he phrased it, he said very explicitly, 'I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks.'

Sharyl Attkisson -- who's been covering the scandal from the beginning

Until the MSM decided a couple of months ago to scuttle Obama, I think the sentence would have more correctly read: Sharyl Attkisson -- who's been covering up the scandal from the beginning...

The MSM has read the Tea leaves and decided Obama is going to drag down their party.

Looks a bit like Anthony Weiner (e-flasher-NY) if you ask me.

That is, his *face* does. I don't have any idea (nor do I want to) about the rest of either of them...

Cheers!

Executive branch is trying to arm every radical muslim backed syndicate in the western hemisphere and disarm US at the same time.

In agreement with your pithy summation, but not even a need for the word “muslim”; it is rhetorical.

The take-away and headline from Ingraham’s interview with Attkisson should have been:

7:33 – Laura: Do we know the exact number [of guns] that went over to Mexico?

Attkisson: We know more than 2,000 in Fast and Furious and I will soon be reporting on the fact that that is not the only case. 2,000 for that operation according to the agents involved.

but not even a need for the word “muslim”; it is rhetorical.

What makes you say that? You don't think Hezbelloh is playing an active role in Mexico or the Muslim Brotherhood is busy here in the US?

http://theamericasreport.com/2011/07/12/congress-hears-again-about-hezbollah%E2%80%99s-role-in-latin-america/

http://shariahthethreat.org/a-short-course-1-what-is-shariah/a-short-course-12-the-muslim-brotherhood-in-america/

And here's a tidbit that might make an American go hmmmmmmm. I mean, what with the recent news about the State Department approving tons of guns for a front company in Mexico, any mention of muslim is not necessarily rhetorical.

...The George W. Bush administration banned Tariq Ramadan from entering the United States in 2004. In January, 2010, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton reversed the ban, allowing the younger Ramadan to use his renewed access to American audiences to advance the Ikhwan’s civilization jihad...

That's from The Sharia Short Course Chapter 10

But thanks for the descriptor 'pithy'. I always thought it had a negative connotation. Just goes to show you, everyday's a school day.

How dare the WH owned media report anything bad about them? UNBELIEVABLE!!! I can’t wait to hear the stories of what all went on in there and they will come out after they leave in 2012.

Ironically, we KNOW that the White House would have simply stonewalled Fox News and then smeared the cable station behind its back. But CBS?? Dissing Holder and Ubama? That is inexcusable. No wonder the White House screamed. I suspect the White House has already escalated this little incident up the ladder at the network.

“[The White House and Justice Department] will tell you that I’m the only reporter—as they told me—that is not reasonable. They say the Washington Post is reasonable, the LA Times is reasonable, the New York Times is reasonable, I’m the only one who thinks this is a story, and they think I’m unfair and biased by pursuing it.”

It is not the job of a journalist to be "reasonable." Any journalist worth his/her salt is not "reasonable."

Eric Schultz was the former communications director of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. His portfolio will include issues primarily dealing with the Department of Justice, another key function will be to handle matters relating to and resulting from investigations launched by Rep. Darrell Issa.

Tracy Schmaler is director of the Justice Department’s Office of Public Affairs. Tracy, who has been has been deputy director since the beginning of the administration, previously worked on the Senate Judiciary Committee for Chairman Pat Leahy, and as a reporter for the Vermont Press Bureau. She covered Howard Dean as governor and his last reelection, and a few months of his presidential. Between Senate and DoJ, was at Yahoo for a year and a half.

And your post is another education right there.

I was partly facetious with the “Muslim is rhetorical” comment, i.e., NOT that “Muslim” should be eliminated, but that “Muslim” falls under your category of “every radical-backed syndicate.”

In many, many more words I have been posting that the main purpose of F & F, IMO, is to destabilize Mexico and bordering US states; disarming US is a big, but secondary motive.

The BHO administration ALWAYS aims to kill as many birds as possible with one stone.

See how many words I just used right there. That’s the best I can do with “pithy.” lol

I wasn’t disagreeing with you at all, and probably should not have replied, but I am glad I did because it provoked you to post important information.

The Muslim threat is at least one of the most under-estimated threats facing us today, which is why BHO has spent so much effort training the media, federal bureaucracies, military, institutions, NGOs, religious organizations, etc, etc, that there is only one way to view Muslims-—and that’s the proscribed PC way. Anything else is Islamophobic.

“Pithy” was certainly a compliment. I need to practice “pithy.”
