Yes, you could be. You may recall that the Huckabee endorsement was in 2007, and Gilchrist was blasted for it, deservedly. When Gilchrist endorsed Perry in 2010 and then again this year he'd had plenty of time to contemplate his '07 mistake and exercise due diligence. I suspect he did. In fairness, I too could be wrong, but for now I'll take the word of the founder of the Minutemen and a decorated Vietnam combat veteran until I'm convinced otherwise.

Ken Vogel and I both have sources telling us that calls were made on behalf of a mystery candidate to various early states to determine presidential filing deadlines. The calls were made by representatives of the law firm Baker Hostetler - a firm that employs lawyer Mark Braden, who represents Sarah PAC, her political action committee. As Ken notes, while he nor representatives of Palin’s campaign would comment on the calls, Palin is the only GOP politician eying the presidential race who is represented by the firm. The current thinking in GOP election law circles is that the first hard cut-off for entering the race is Oct. 28, when presidential candidates who hope to appear on the ballot in the New Hampshire primary would be required to submit a filing fee from a federally registered presidential campaign committee. |

I don't think Rick Perry is a victim either; but the squealing going on in some of the threads here about a non-event makes me think that some of his followers want us to think he is.
The primary process will either make Mr. Cain a stronger candidate or it will wash him out. I don't like it when some of the people here are trying to claim that he is a Romney plant and is merely trying to take the wind out of Perry's sails. It is a far fetched claim this early in the process and not a fair argument. Mr. Cain has as much right to pursue his dream of being president as any of the other candidates. Lets see how they all do and let the cards fall where they may.
Anyone who is a decorated vietnam combat veteran (other than John Kerry) is going to get the benefit of the doubt from me. So in my view Mr. Gilchrist’s endorsement is a very important one for Gov. Perry and you are certainly right to bring it up.

I agree with you. Perry is a strong choice and I support him 100% I am from TX and know what he stands for and he is a Governor for all people in TX.
I heard what Cain said to Chris Wallace and he trashed Perry. He has back tracked some on his comments. However, he used the race card and consequently lost my support. If you want to call me a cry baby Texan, so be it.
Perry deserved the endorsement. Perry has worked hard to try and secure the border with the resources that TX has available. Especially since Obama won’t full fill federal responsibility and will not deport people caught by TX.

Did you watch the entire interview or are you just reacting to something inflammatory that you read? He never said that Rick Perry was a racist or anything approaching that. The strongest word that he used that might be perceived to have been directed toward Gov. Perry was “insensitive”.
Mr. Cain has repeatedly been attacked by black leftist leaders in this country for being an “Uncle Tom”. I doubt whether his reckless use of the word “insensitive” is going to do much to fight that unfair perception. Sarah Palin has been drug viciously attacked and through the mud for years now with hardly a whimper. Mr. Cain makes a comment about an “insensitive” rock at Gov. Perry's hunting retreat and you Perry supporters are squealing like stuck pigs. (We raised pigs by the way.) I am not sure how else the rest of us are suppose to not think that you Texans are being a bunch of babies... Sheesh!!! Grow Up!
Mr. Cain is not the one bringing this up; it is the MSM who keeps bringing it up and their goal is to start fighting amongst the candidates. Mr. Cain is caught between a rock and a hard place. He views this as nothing more than a distraction, but it would have been difficult for him not to give some type of a reaction without finding himself portrayed once again as the Republican Party's "Uncle Tom". Personally I have doubts whether you actually watched the interview. So here is a link; the part you have so much interest in is about 4 minutes in.
RUSH: RUSH: I'm gonna tell you, this is really disappointing to me. Herman Cain. I liked Herman Cain -- like Herman Cain. The Washington Post has it as a Macaca story about Rick Perry. Apparently back when Rick Perry was a Democrat... There's this woman at the Washington Post who's written a story that, with traditional journalism, wouldn't even pass the first review by an editor. But apparently back in the eighties when Perry was a Democrat, he and his dad would go hunting at someplace and there is a rock that had the N-word on it that somebody had painted over.Everybody knows what Herman Cain was doing . . . except apparently for you.
Somebody had painted over it. The Perrys didn't like it, and they turned the rock over so nobody could see it. I'm giving it a short CliffNotes version here. (interruption) When they what? (interruption) Yeah, when, they started leasing it themselves they painted it over, and then they turned the rock over. They didn't like the word -- the N-word something about this whole place, and now they're trying to write a story here that the Perrys loved going to the place because it did use the N-word. It's 180 degrees out of phase. They're trying to say that Perry's a racist, and Herman Cain has jumped in and basically joined that chorus -- and it is absurd . . .

So here you have the Washington Post with an unsupported nonstory, and here comes Herman Cain piggybacking on it trying to capitalize on it, essentially letting the mainstream media (in this case, the Washington Post) set the narrative. It's exactly what I mean. There's this... I don't know if you call it a fear or just a mistaken belief that the power in media still exclusively resides in the mainstream media, and it's those people that you have to get on your side; those people you have to use to get your message out, or what have you, and so that leads to pandering to them. Cain is doing it in this case . . .
