Those words were spoken today by Georgette Mosbacher, RNC Finance Co-Chair and huge GOP fundraiser, after Chris Christie’s announcement. The “we” is all the big bundlers, fundraisers, and money folks who have been sitting on the sidelines waiting for the field to be set — and that quote represents the coalescing around Mitt Romney that is expected to happen rather quickly now. Mosbacher went on to say:
“I think tomorrow, we’ll be contacting one another and probably put something together with Romney… And I would say that the race is now Romney and Obama. Quite frankly, the enthusiasm wasn’t there at the outset. He’s less conservative than a lot of us would like. However, our first and foremost goal is to defeat Obama. And we do believe Romney, in terms of independents, will be a strong candidate. We will coalesce behind him now… the time has come to get behind him… Tomorrow I’ll be on the phone all day. Quite frankly, it’ll be easier, because now we know who it is who will be our nominee. So we will pull our Rolodexes out and get to work.”
Fellow bundler and sideline-sitter John Catsimatidis added, “I’m going to go with Mitt Romney. I don’t think Perry has it in him to do it. He’s a lot better than Sarah Palin, but not a lot lot better.”
Ouch.
In related news, Romney also scored another major fundraiser from the Draft Christie movement: Ken Langone. Langone is the founder of Home Depot and is described as a “titan” in the political money scene. He backed Rudy Giuliani in 2008, helping Giuliani out raise the other candidates. There is evidence that a great deal of the money that had sat on the sidelines so far in this race will now fall into Romney’s coffers.
Rick Perry, for his part, got the endorsement of another Draft Christie member: Gary Kirke, a west Iowa investor and casino owner who had also been sitting on the sidelines until this afternoon.
“But I believe Gov. Rick Perry is a better choice and why I’ve been doggedly vetting him here on FR.”

We don’t need any one who just taps the breaks before the car goes over the cliff. What we need is some one to turn things around 180 degrees and sorry to say I believe Mitt isn’t it. May be it may take another four years of the Anointed One to bring people to their senses. I believe that Herbert Cain would fill the ticket nicely and also may be well received by black voters, I have read his resume and it is impressive to say the least.We sure don’t need another warmed over politician as they have caused enough trouble. I do believe the time is right for some one with common sense and Herman Cain appears to have what it takes.
I disagree that who is still in is doing it to help Romney, but I agree that if a couple don’t drop out soon, that could be the consequence.
Some are running, like Michelle, to probably increase name recognition to get a more prominent position in the House.
But it is my guess that Perry and Cain are sincere in trying to get the nomination.

Each of the three I've mentioned has strengths--strengths we ought to promote.

I am floored at the absolute doublespeak. Just floored. But I shouldn’t be. Some of Perry’s most vocal supporters are an accurate reflection of their candidate. Full of doublespeak.
No, that’s not all indications at all. She reportedly has a small but very good staff (e.g., Jason Recher) to ramp up an unconventional run that will depend more on her media and social media skills, retail campaigning skills, and anti-big campaign money strategy than the usual hack-filled campaigns. She’s got grassroots energy and volunteers that beat those of the rest of the candidates combined.
Why do you think the likes of Tokyo Rove and Fox News tried to force her to announce earlier, if at all? Because that would have made it easier for them to take her out. She knows what she is doing and has timed this thing perfectly.
Cain is still only at 55% name recognition, for crying out loud, whereas Palin’s still ahead of any of the candidates on that, even all the months and years and millions in campaigning from the likes of Willard.
Cain is succeeding nicely in selling his books, but he really only rose with the base’s reaction against the Romney and Perry alternatives. He is almost assuredly at the high-water mark of his popularity right now—and may have burst it with his cheap shotting of Perry on Sunday.
Not if individual conservatives are willing to give a hundred or to to Perry or Cain and help them run like hell.
Cain yes....I gave him money already and will give him more. Perry I wouldn’t even give him a penny....I don’t give money to liberals.
This isn't about "black" it's about LIBERAL vs Conservatism.
I almost fell over last night when BRIT HUME of all people said that the GOP will win if they don't pick an "extreme" candidate ------- cue Romney.
Rush is right. We need to run the candidate that is a conservative and THAT is Rick Perry. He's in. He has organization. He has money. He will fight.

They’re all on our side, you know. They just want the most experienced, best financed guy to beat Romney. Cain has his own set of weaknesses that supporters don’t want to admit and so does Palin and her fans.
Afraid to be specific or do you just want to throw stuff out there like the Washington Post does?
You’re right that Boehner needs to be replaced, but Bachmann hasn’t shown the legislative leadership skills to be the one to replace him.
And you miss Perry’s game if you call him an outsider. He’s for sale to anyone who’ll buy, and that’s the GOP Establishment (see: the TTC) often enough. Sure, he plays the rube cowboy conservative game (so well that W is said to have copied him in part), but he has been in the race to try to fool enough conservatives to climb onto his Trojan bandwagon. We’ve seen through it though, so Palin is still a threat to coalesce the conservative base and outnumber Romney’s voters.
Cain is another conservative that they’ve been glad to have in there (like Bachmann) to try to fragment the base. He’s doing that to some degree, but like Perry he’s not a strong enough candidate to maintain it against another, more viable conservative option.
The GOP RINO Establishment are deeper in this race, trying to throw in diversionary candidates against the force of Palin, than most people realize.

Yeah, they sure will, though he`s a bit of a harder target than Perry.
My theory is the “media” — once they get the DNC directive — will start to exploit Cain`s battle with cancer. They`ll start a campaign of “concern” about whether his health would hold up, and that it`s “unnecessarily risky” to elect someone who “could die in office,” especially in these “tumultuous times.” CNN will host some oh-so-earnest oncologists on talk shows explaining to a mushy-minded, rather simple American electorate about the return rate of various cancers.. and lo and behold, Cain`s will be among the most aggressive.

Not at all. You are Perry’s Chief apologist on FR. Anyone reading your post history can easily see that for themselves. You ignore all legit criticzm to your candidate and have dozens of unaddressed issues that Freepers, myself and others, have questioned RE Perry’s positions. In fact, less than a week ago I posted about 10 or so myself that you ignored, then ducked, dodged and hept right on bulling through. As I said then, Pathetic.
Further, JR hisself smacked you down after one particularly obnoxious ‘pro Perry’ stunt on the Palin threads a little while back. And then you tried arguing with him over it.
No, I’m not kidding at all and anyone who ponders taking you seriously better read up on your activities before doing it. Vetting...That word...I do not think it means what you think it means.
In regards to both Cain and Perry. As Thomas Sowell pointed out, if you expect Superman and only Superman, discounting the others because of small errors, you’re going to end up with just a warm body and no good candidates.
I can overlook Perry on immigration, because he had to abide by federal legislation on the issue and has promised to reform immigration reform if he becomes President. I can overlook Cain’s cheap shot at Perry, because because he’s not a black nationalist, but black racism against whites is embedded in black culture, that it’s going to be a part of their thinking at times. Many blacks are starting to arise above it, but it’s going to take time.
