President Obama defends attorney general regarding ATF tactics
The Los Angeles Times ^ | October 7, 2011 | Richard A. Serrano

Posted on 10/06/2011 6:43:51 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

President Obama insists neither he nor Atty. Gen. Eric H. Holder Jr. knew federal ATF agents were permitting illegal gun purchases on the Southwest border, even as Republican lawmakers released new documents showing the attorney general was given general briefings on the Fast and Furious gun-tracking operation.

"He's indicated that he was not aware of what was happening in Fast and Furious," the president said in support of Holder, speaking at a White House news conference Thursday. "Certainly I was not. And I think both he and I would have been very unhappy if somebody had suggested that guns were allowed to pass through that could have been prevented by the United States of America."

He noted that the Justice Department inspector general's office, at Holder's request, was investigating the 15-month program at the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' Phoenix field office. More than 2,000 firearms were lost; two turned up at the fatal shooting of a U.S. Border Patrol agent in December.

"I have complete confidence in him," Obama said of Holder. "And I've got complete confidence in the process to figure out who, in fact, was responsible for that decision [to launch Fast and Furious] and how it got made."(continued)

Every time Obama is ready to through someone under the bus, he defends them first. Holder’s days are numbered. ;-)

How can you tell when a public servant is about to resign?

The White House issues a press release stating that they standby and support the said public servant.

>>So he thinks we all have room temperature IQs? <<

The USA voted barry in by a plurality. Not only does he think we have collectively low IQs, he has proof of it and now clearly depends on it.

Few sites have the brainpower we here at FR take for granted (even from some disagreeable characters here).

He figures that as long as his boot lickers in the media have room temperature IQs, and 30% of the population does also (his base), he's going to skate by.

If you think about it, for him it's still pretty good odds.

Unless the MSM turns on him in a very big way F&F is not going to do the political damage that it could or should. And no one is going to the pokey.

Holder will resign (if necessary, not yet a given), this will all go away as the press drops the pretense of interest in it, Obama will appoint another criminal to head Justice and the spineless sissies in the Senate will approve him.

I am not so sure.

This time he has someone who KNOWS the facts.

He cannot afford for Holder to squeal.

If Holder starts spilling the beans Obama is a goner.

Holder should be very careful he doesn’t take a flight any time soon like the one Ron Brown took. He should stay out of Parks too.

And yet, no one he has dumped under the bus has ever squealed on him. Either he has something on them or he is extremely charismatic with regard to his inner circle. Time will tell.

Or credible threats were made to those thrown under the bus to keep them quiet.

Where is the follow up to such a stupid explanation? Oh thats right compliant state run Media refuses to actually do any investigative journalism on Barry... So Basically Obama said it wasn’t me... It’s like that song from Shaggy........ Where shaggy’s friends girl cathes her boyfriend having sex in their apartment and the friend asks shaggy what should I do and he tells him... “Say it wasn’t You”

It is both frightening and amazing how little most people know about what is going on around them politically. Somehow they just believe tomorrow will be like yesterday with rainbows and unicorns.

even as Republican lawmakers released new documents showing the attorney general was given general briefings on the Fast and Furious gun-tracking operation

Spin, spin, spin. Holder was given "general briefings". No reason to believe that Holder perjured himself, after all they were just "general briefings", nothing specific enough for the guy to remember, evidently.

He noted that the Justice Department inspector general's office, at Holder's request, was investigating the 15-month program at the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' Phoenix field office.

Does anybody see even a teeny, tiny, miniscule possibility of a hint of a suggestion of a conflict of interest there? One part misdirection, another part of knowing cover-up by a compliant press, with some help from screaming White House aides, toss in a dash of demoted ATF managers, maybe even a few low-level indictments and some payoffs to disgruntled Mexican officials, and voila, nothing to see here anymore, no scandal, no nothing...

I wish the news media, Fox included, would wake up! If our AG claims he did not know of an ATF operation that knowingly permitted illegal firearms to be transported into a foreign and soverign country, he’s either incompetent, negligent, a liar or all of the above. An operation of this scope with international ramifications should have authorization at the highest level given the potential for disaster. I’ll bet it did!

Yup. They’ve tried like hell to bury this. This isn’t a counteroffensive, this is retreating fire.
