Is the 'Occupy Wall Street' movement being hijacked by newcomers?
Christian Science Monitor ^ | October 7, 2011 | By Daniel B. Wood

An estimated 200 social justice protesters demonstrated in Freedom Plaza in Washington, D.C., Thursday, expressing solidarity with the “Occupy Wall Street” movement that has spread to more than 150 US cites.

The protesters, part of a larger group that had gathered earlier near Capitol Hill for a long-planned antiwar rally, beat drums, carried signs that said “Tax the Rich,” and rang cowbells.

As expressions of solidarity with Occupy multiply – labor unions marched in New York Wednesday while student and labor groups joined in Boston – the question is being asked: Can the protest movement carry the newcomers, or will it sink under their weight?

“The entropy that is Occupy Wall Street threatens to either destroy the group or propel it to new heights,” says Michael Robinson, senior vice president for Levick Strategic Communications, an international public relations firm. “They need to be really careful about becoming too schizophrenic and having too many personalities. They risk getting diffused if they expand themselves too much.”

Hijacked my ass, it has been set up and coordinated from the start by der Fuehrer’s untergrupenfuehrers including the unions, the MSM and his campaign people.

The protesters, part of a larger group that had gathered earlier near Capitol Hill for a long-planned antiwar rally, beat drums, carried signs that said “Tax the Rich,” and rang cowbells.

They finally realized that the protests needed more cowbell.

Crashing the anti-TEA party party sounds like a lot of fun, though

Assuming we have conseratives willing to join on the battlefield of liberal lunacy!

IMHO many of the original protesters had valid grievances regarding international corporations and finance and crony capitalism.

However, they are young, naive, idealistic, lack real world experience, often have not been taught critical thinking skills, and are being used.

The original group was rapidly infiltrated.

Replacing crony capitalism / fascism with communism is no improvement.

As one FReeper pointed out, "Hitler took over using similar tactics."

I found those people so silly. Maybe even pathetic. Sure, they go out and shout and chant and sing and clang cowbells. Then what? They go home, watch their favorite TV series, listen to their favorite musician, eat their take-out, then go to bed. For many of them, when they graduate from college, they will wear cheap suits and line up for interviews. This is basically like phytoplankton in the ocean protesting against sunlight! These folk think they are separate, but they are actually cogs in the system that they so vehemently oppose. They are engaged in one of the highest classes of folly - that of doing nothing but talking and chanting (and yes, ringing cow bells). As someone said, I went shopping today and talk is still cheap.

Now, if they really wanted to make a difference and stick a big middle finger up Wall Street, what they would do is start their own corporations engaging in divergent (yet profitable) business models. Basically, create a commercially sustainable movement that is seperate from The Street. However, that would require a lot of hard work, and I am certain most of them don't want to start their own businesses. It is much easier to clang cowbells.

A different approach would be to Go Galt (they may not call it that due to Ayn Rand being anathema to Liberals, but they can come up with a different name but the same concept). Basically, get completely off the grid. Not buying anything made by the 'evil' corporations. Not purchasing a single thing that is 'tainted.' Not watching the TV shows or listening to the music. Making their own clothes or purchasing them from sources that are not evil. Same with food. Transportation. Basically engaging in an advanced form of what the Amish and Mennonites do (the REAL Amish, not that pathetic running-joke of the 'amish' on FR). They could Go Galt. Yet, again, that is too difficult ...it would require too much sacrifice on their part. It is, again, much easier to sing and shout and clang cowbells.

Result: We see these poor pathetic souls walking about wearing their GAP, listening to their iPODs and talking on their Nokias and Samsungs (and a smattering of the latest iPhone 4S I am sure), easing pangs of hunger with McDonalds and KFC, and trying to make sure they don't forget to record that HBO show on their TiVos. Absolutely ridiculous.

They are not a threat. They are a joke. Look at them.

Then they go home and think (no, not think ....'feel') that they have done SO MUCH. LOL. I am actually certain profitability amongst several companies has gone up due to all of these people. After all, they had to get there somehow (I doubt they can teleport ...real-world new-age is different from SciFi), they have to eat (not enough free food for all), their signs did not materialize from Valhalla, etc etc etc.

Like phytoplankton protesting against sunlight.

The greatest form of weakness I see in them is they always expect 'someone else' to do something. Read their blogs, their papers, their forums - they are always saying 'someone needs to ....' Which is why when they march on The Street they feel they are doing something, when in reality they are just feeding the same machine they are ranting against. If they wanted to make a real difference they could a) start their own alternative system that is commercially viable (they cannot, it is too hard, and they have to wait for 'someone' to do it) or b) they can get off the grid (go Galt or whatever it is they want to call it), but then again that calls for sacrifice (and they don't want to stop eating that nice icecream or downloading iTunes).

Look at them! The vapid faces of human phytoplankton. Clanging cowbells and thinking they are making a difference.

That is what worries me, they have made the news but they have not made any difference and some of the may get frustrated and then violent.

Lemme see if I understand: “I don’t wanna have to work, I want to drum, chant (maybe do a little dope) and have my living needs provided with little or no effort of my own... everything (like college/healthcare) should be ‘free’... yet I will demand a (job optional) ‘living wage’ for myself! The only ‘work’ I shall engage in, is an effort to maintain an overblown sense of my own moral and intellectual superiority over the ‘greedy’ rich and stupid Tea Party folks! Ya gotta ‘share’ man!” What ya think... does that sum it up?

Anybody else think Obummer wanted a return to the protests of the 1960s so he started his own?

Everybody should know just how dangerous these “Occupy” protests really are. The danger comes in the form of violence — not from them but from the good guys. And now that the unions are joining in, the riots may not be far off.

It is crucial that we must NOT respond in kind to any violence by the Occupy types! Obummer dreams of having an armed insurrection, to crush with martial law and leading to a suspension of elections. We must be careful not to give him any excuse to do so. Keep your powder dry.

Then again, have you noticed the Oathkeepers are joining the protesters? They want to nudge the frustrated hippies toward the Constitution instead of Marxist ideology. Interesting approach, eh?

No, this is the plan all along.

Get all the young, college students bussed in there and start a swelling of sympathy and support. These guys do not even know why they are there, they are just doing something. They have confused motion with action.

Then the bosses take over as the young ones get bored an go home. As the violent forces arrive and things get nasty, the young innocent ones get the blame for the bad stuff and the Unions get the support.

A side benefit, the young skulls full of mush may, at some point, become more supportive of the Unions because they see the Unions supporting them in their efforts. (to do what, who knows?)

The first wave is always cannon fodder.

Yes you are seeing Obama’s FREE SHIT ARMY forming up.

They're just picking up where Bush left off.

Free bailouts for the banks, fatcorps and the corrupt insiders on Wall Street to the tune of trillions, all on the backs of the tax payers.

Oh wait, that free shit is cool!

Good thinking

Is the 'Occupy Wall Street' movement being hijacked by newcomers?

Better question: Is the Left already looking for excuses for their latest failure?
