Rick Perry just gave a well received speech Here at the annual Values Voters summit in Washington, D.C.though not flawless, the Texas governor is a lot sharper when hes in control, not under fire in a debate setting. But the Texas pastor who introduced Perry has unexpectedly opened the door to a sensitive issue barely discussed in this primary so far: Mitt Romneys faith.
....whether he had in fact been referring to Romney and Mormonism, Jeffers said he had. Mormonism is a cult, he said cheerfully, before rephrasing his onstage statement in a more explicit way: The choice, he said, is between a born again Christian and a good moral person who is part of a cult.
....A Perry campaign spokesman responded to a request for a comment by merely saying, The Governor does not believe Mormonism is a cult.

Additionally, Romney has been playing his usual dirty tricks and probably had something in mind as far as playing the card himself.
Cain's ascendancy must be giving Mitt night sweats!
Ping
Nothing like taking losing with grace and class/s
Tweeters are salivating at having another stone to throw at Perry.
Perry Supporter Calls Mormonism a Cult
________________________________________
My God! First the Perry-noiacs made a mountain over a mole hill with N-head. Now this?
Desperation. I love to see fear in the eyes of babid lunatics.
Inside most preachers is a politician fighting to get out.
Oh noes! “one lone” Perry supporter said something controversial!
“babid” lunatics?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Geesh.
try rabid.
The Rev. Hagee, if he was there, may be happy that he is not Catholic.
First Baptist Dallas's Robert Jeffress
does seem to display Christian values.
Mormonism is a cult!
So what's the difference?
But it was heartening to hear that Gov. Perry acknowledges he does not think Mormonism is a cult. I bet he doesn't have that Pastor introduce him again.
That is really reaching. I doubt if every person that supported Palin is a perfect person.
Cain is a born again Baptist. Every thing about the Perry campaign stinks of racism.
The world is topsy-turvy. Since when is calling an organization a cult worse than actually belonging to one?
conservatives and could have mormonism’s racist past exposed during the general.
Conservative/ born again Christian folowers of Jesus Christ consider Mormonism a cult - likewise, Jehovah Witnesses, Seventh Day Advantists and others who do not claim Christ as Savior and part of the Trinity. There is only one way to God and salvation and that is through Jesus Christ. That’s what we believe and why we consider them cults. The book Kingdom of the Cults describes these cults and explains better than I.
Well this little development can only help....Cain.
Although no one asked Perry, it would be helpful for the voter if he would also give his opinion on the nature of Islam.
I don’t think he will do that unless forced to.
And this is Perry’s fault because ... why?
"The conference picked someone to introduce the governor, not us," he said.
Because Perry is the media's current favorite pinata?
My nightmare Romney/Cain 2012.
Pastor Jeffress was the leader of the First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls for many years and while I don’t know him personally, I do know his “style” very well, and he is not afraid to tell things as they are.
He made headlines a while back when he said “Americas’ days are numbered” and “..we will not save America”. Now he makes new headlines with his take on Mormonism.
That’s how he sees things, as he believes God says in his Word. I believe he is right on both topics.
I guess they are occusing everyone at The Value Voters Summit of being bigots for having such a man on their stage.
If Romney is the nominee, the MSM will do a full-court press to expose Mormonism, they are playing it close to the vest for now, in the hopes Romney is the nominee.
All you kindly, gentle, pious Mormon-hating Christians better get a hold of Governor Perry and straighten him out!
Straighten our Herman Cain while you're at it. He apparently thinks Mormons are Christians.
LOL!
And we are BOTH correct.
I have no problem with calling a spade a spade. It probably wasn’t the best decision to voice it unless he had been asked his opinion though. A person should know when to use discretion.
Isn’t it amazing though that we are suppose to blame this on Perry but we are not link “someone” and their “pastor” who preached “G**D**** America”.
First Baptist's Robert Jeffress to Publiclyshalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
Shame Stores That Don't Celebrate ChristmasI guess Jeffress is not aware that Christmas
is a pagan feast introduced by a cult.Could it be that he is unaware that Yah'shua
was, is and will always be a Jew.And that Yah'shua will return to rule and reign
the world from Jerusalem sitting on King David throne
He’s essentially trying to turn Perry into the 2012 equivalent of Huckabee, with the Evangelical electorate.
He might succeed, but enough EV leaders are supporting Romney to take that particular club away this time around.
On a pure sociologist’s scale, Mormonism has been around long enough that they aren’t hung up on a single charismatic leader and can pass on leadership without there being deaths. However, they are still pretty quick on excommunication and shunning. Many of the Evangelicals haven’t gotten beyond either. That pretty much puts Mormons somewhere between a sect and an established religion. I think that established religion means that they are so big that you don’t get singled out for failure to attend or tithe. Sociologists don’t give points for right or wrong.
I don’t think they will, otherwise they will come off as completely hypocritical for propping up their front man, Harry Reid, for soooooo long.
They are relying on the Primaries to do that. This is why I believe Mitt’s biggest obstacle in seeking the Presidency is the GOP primary, not the General Election.
That said, as a Mormon myself, I’m hoping Cain continues to rise.
Next we will see a headline like:
RUMORED, PERSON WHO SAW A PICTURE OF PERRY MAY HAVE HAD LAWN MOWED BY AN ILLEGAL
This is just STUPID.
Cain is as big a racist as they come, Romney is a Rhino dud, Bachman is a little loopy, Perry supports illegals and cronies, Santorum is purple, not sure what Huntsman is... so far the only one who has not done anything foolish lately is Gingrich.
They all have problems and whichever one gets the nomination is going to see even worse ridicule than what has come so far.
Either way, he’s not my pick.
Early Christians (prior to the Apostasy years later) were considered a cult. I guess we are in good company as Mormongs then.
Wanna bet? Many EVs do not follow their "leaders" in lockstep the way the mormons do.
It looks like Perry's Pastor comes up short
on his values and knowledge of the WORD.But he appears long on racism.
Cain is a born-again Baptist.
Mormongs... run away... ;-)
Has a great section on Mormonism. Perry's Christianity, or the people he surrounds himself with, are questionable.
Perry also personally opposes the Ground Zero mosque at the WTC sight but says its a local issue to be decided by the people of NYC. Also, the Governor is a huge supporter, defender and friend of the State of Israel.
The opposition to Mitt on account of his faith has dropped in half (or more) since the last election. The White Evangelical Protestant column is very enlightening.
I'm not the betting type, but would love to take you up on it. We could make the bet a steak dinner if you like. Paypal approved. ;-)
As much as I dislike Perry, his pastor is dead on right about this one!
Sure he’s aware how Christmas came into being. Just because something was “introduced by a cult” doesn’t mean it has to remain a cult celebration.
As for Jesus being a Jew, I’ve heard anyone say he wasn’t, and isn’t.
I have also heard him preach more than a few times that Jesus will reign from Jerusalem.
Jeffress is a Christian, he lives as he believes. What’s wrong with that? Romney does the same thing. When they both die, they’ll find out who was right.
Your point would be brilliant if you could follow it up with actually links/statements on FR to mormon haters.
