Santorum Says He'll Contend in Iowa (Romney not in a cult - is a Christian)
Fox News ^ | October 9, 2011

..........Now that Chris Christie and Sarah Palin have decided not to run, many political watchers are predicting that there is room on the right for one more contender to join the top ranks. Santorum said his path to victory lies in the Iowa caucuses, “The strategy is to go down and talk to the people of Iowa and do town hall meetings. And I have been to 70 counties of the 99 counties. … We are not hitting huge crowds but we are hitting the people who are the engine of the Iowa caucuses. And they are talking and have influence in their community.”

This week at the “Value Voters Summit” in Washington, DC, the big news did not come from a candidate for president, but rather a supporter of Texas Governor Rick Perry. Baptist minister Robert Jeffress introduced Perry and after the candidate’s speech said that Republican frontrunner Mitt Romney’s Mormon religion is a “cult.”

When asked to comment about Romney’s faith, Santorum who’s a favorite of Christian conservatives, said that he does not believe Mormonism is a cult and that Mitt Romney is a Christian.

And Cain thinks the 2nd Amendment is a states rights issue so he should be fine with that.

The idea of ANY politician, but especially one who wants to be President, getting into “who is a Christian” makes me want to vomit.

That having been said, making up stories about the relationship between LDS and the faith once delivered to the saints is just STUPID.

Santorum doesn’t stand a chance in hell at being elected to national office. He comes across as being FAR FAR too unlikable, on camera anyway.

Sorry. Don't see it.

Santorum seems one of the most likable Republicans candidates. YMMV

Santorum was on ‘hardboiled’ with spit-boy’ Matthews and said it wasn’t a cult. He also said Mutt Romney was a good and moral man.

I about barfed when he said that.

Does Santorum have some doppleganger somewhere?

How are you guys getting Santorum’s unlikable?

He seems like an average, likable guy next door.

Get a patent on it. You have as much chance of marketing that as Santorum does of marketing himself in a national election.

IMO Santorum is too embedded in Beltway culture to be the right choice now.

How so?

Don’t see it. Really I don’t.

Seems honest and likable. I’d vote for him. In fact for several reasons.

One: He’s been vetted. Two, he’s moral. And frankly he seems to be right about things.

Cain only got in to promote his book. He hasn’t raised near the money or set up political organizations in the primary states. He is not a serious candidate.

“Can anyone clear up this confusion?
What is Baptist definition of a Christian and ‘a cult’?”

All I know is the Baptist Preacher that was being grilled by CNN talking heads on the subject, said that The Southern Baptist Conventions has two definitions of a “cult” - a sociological cult and a theological cult, and he was using the theological definition of “cult” in referring to Mormonism as a “cult”. Not sure what the official Southern Baptist Convention definition of who they recognize as being a “Christian” is.

Now I have a question. Since the article that was posted was about Rick Santorum who “ said that he does not believe Mormonism is a cult and that Mitt Romney is a Christian “, what is the Catholic definition of a Christian and ‘a cult’?” Surely that is written down somewhere also.

“If he was quoted accurately, I am surprised that Santorum does not understand what Mormons believe.”

I know I’d like to see the quote. Bad reporting if it’s not in the article, but for some reason Fox News is being blocked for me, so I can’t tell.

The other thing that bothers me about him is that he doesn’t have a clue about what’s going on in this country.

Just hearing him try to recognize the cause of the Wall St. occupiers tells me all I need to know about him.

He’s clueless.

I wonder who most people think Perry supporters would support if he went down? Since they say Perry is a Rino, wouldn't it make sense his supporters are Rino’s too and would back Mitt if Perry falls?

Thanks for the input. It is still a mystery as to how a Southern Baptist defines Christian and know Romney is not one. You asked about the Catholic definition of Christian. I think that would be along the lines of being Baptized in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and accepting the Apostles’ Creed. Never heard the word cult in any homily.

I watched some of these posters here and it is obvious they are claiming to be Cain supporters [and were once Palin supporters] but in fact are Romney supporters sent in to go after Perry. JR is now seeing this and is now tracking some of these posters. IF they are Romney supporters yes, they are RINOS.
