The following is an excerpt of my interview with Thorbjørn Jagland, Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which is responsible for awarding the Nobel Peace Prize. In this section, Jagland speaks about whether Obama lived up to the expectations of the Nobel Peace Prize he was awarded in 2009. The rest of the interview will be published later today covering topics from the tragedy in Norway to Europe's role in Central Asia.
Has President Obama lived up to his Nobel Peace Prize?
Yes, I think so. Im as convinced as I was when he got it that he deserved it for many reasons. He changed so many things in American foreign policy; During three months time, he, for instance and thats whats the main reason why he got the prize, namely that he paved the way for new negotiations with the Russian Federation about nuclear arms. If you look at the will of Alfred Nobel that goes directly to what he said that the prize should go to the person that has worked for - he called it reduction of standing armies but in todays terms it means arm control and disarmament. So President Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize because he paved the way for such negotiations; he said that he was willing to discuss the nuclear shield of Europe and therefore, the Russians were beginning to come back to the table and negotiations started again.

First, you get the Peace Prize
Then, you earn it?
I guess offing terrorists with predators, engaging in undeclared wars, and inciting islamists riots throughout the middle east was something Bush should have done to earn the Peace Prize
I voted...but how long has it been since the “peace prize” meant anything or was anything more than a political beauty prize?
I voted no, but in a way he has lived up to it: he got it for being sort of black and reading a prompter, and he’s lived up to both of those.
He has lived up to the ideals which earned him that prize.
(IOW - He still has accomplished nothing, and he’s still not Bush)
The Atheistic Socialist Globalist Prize was correctly awarded.
They don’t a choice for uncontrolled laughing. Couldn’t vote.
LOL!!!
No.....77.49%
Whoops.
Obama did nothing to deserve the Nobel Prize in the first place. And he has done nothing to justify having received it since then. At least he’s been consistent.
“Where have they been for the last 2 years and 8 1/2 months????)”
I suspect watching Jerry Springer and living on the Taxpayer dole.
He’s still not George W Bush so he has lived up to the prize.
It wasn’t just an attack on Bush’s policies, but the man himself. Otherwise the anti-war protests would still be going on every time a soldier dies or a month goes without us retreating, or we enter a new country (e.g. Libya).
Well, since he got the damned thing only because he’s of the political far Left and black, I’d say he didn’t have much to live up to in the first place.
There it is. Once proud. Today, it's a joke. So, yes, he has lived up to the current state of the award.
Obama has in every respect lived up to my expectations. [Note: Almost no one considers me a pessimist, but I am a realist. I expected a massive failure.]
Of course he has lived up to it. He is a black progressive. That was all the criteria used.
