Gunwalker: Issa Reveals Drug Enforcement Administration Involvement
Pajamas Media ^ | 10/11/2011 | Bob Owens

It was a brutal weekend for the Obama administration: Gunwalker continued unraveling at a faster pace, with new developments suggesting that Attorney General Eric Holder may not be the only Obama appointee destined for a political fall and possible criminal charges.

In an interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa revealed for the first time that the Drug Enforcement Administration was far more involved in running the operation than the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives:

It wasn’t an ATF operation. They were part of that. It was a joint operation in which DEA knew more than ATF.

This directly conflicts with prior statements by DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart — she claimed that the DEA only played a supporting role and that her DEA agents in El Paso and Phoenix were only “indirectly involved in the ATF operation through DEA-associated investigative activity.” She further absolved her agency by claiming that “DEA personnel had no decision-making role in ATF operations” associated with Fast and Furious.

The DEA’s higher-profile role will not absolve ATF personnel for their roles in carrying out the plot politically, but it could potentially make a difference in future criminal proceedings if ATF agents on the front lines of the operation thought they were participating in a legitimate law enforcement operation.

Unfortunately for the Department of Justice, the higher level of collusion between different federal law enforcement agencies that report to the attorney general make it even more unlikely that Eric Holder and other senior DOJ personnel were unaware of the real goal of the operation.

Issa’s committee is in the process of preparing subpoenas for members of the Obama administration to try to find out who authorized the operation, and to ask why they have not been forthcoming if they believed the operations to be legal:

Why are they denying knowing about something that they were briefed on? … Exactly when, the American people want to know, how did it happen?

Issa also revealed for the first time the magnitude of the largest individual gunwalking incidents, noting that one effort involved the shipment of 700 guns to the Sinaloa cartel.

Issa continued:

This is about Justice Department knowing, and this is where the American people have a right to know more, knowing that these guns were deliberately intended to end up in the hands of the drug cartels without any kind of traceability, except if you find a gun in the scene of the crime. That is the reason that it is felony and stupid — and I use the word “felony” deliberately — program.

A massive stockpile containing dozens of Operation Fast and Furious weapons was recovered in Mexico at an arsenal hidden in the Ciudad Juarez home of Sinaloa cartel enforcer Jose Antonio Torres Marrufo. The raid occurred on April 30; the revelation that 40 of the guns were from the gunwalking plot constitutes breaking news — and confirmation that the plot worked as designed.

With DEA and DOJ heavily involved in this, are you telling me that Janet Napolitano at Homeland Security wasn’t knee deep in this as well? Come on, she would have had to have known what was going on considering the fact that this operation had a direct effect on weapons going out of this country into neighboring Mexico. For her not to have known would have meant that she was either a fool, incompetent, or lying. And if she DID know about it, she had a responsibility to go public with it to stop it. If Janet Napolitano continues to claim that she didn’t know anything about this, especially since all operations like this should be going through her office, then how do we know what she actually DOES know about what our government is doing? I think Napolitano, like Holder, is going to need a good lawyer soon.

I’m not usually the thread police, but this was just posted a bit ago, and has some nice comments going already.

Of course, everybody is entitled to post where they want. Just saying.

Another freeper the other day quipped about the Sinaloa Cartel and the Feds being business partners. I’m now seriously wondering just how close to the truth that comment was.

Grassley and Issa need to play this out so that a small explosion occurs a month before the election.

If told to do a gun transfer that was clearly illegal by the DEA, they would get a big FU from most FFL dealers. It is however a different story if told to do so by the ATF.

And with them about 40 CZARS and CZARINAS. It would be a start.

Napolitano Denies Knowledge: testified

Napolitano said she first found out about the operation after Terry’s killing and that she is declining to comment on it further until the Department of Justice ((DOJ) inspector general’s office completes its independent review of the operation. Attorney General Eric Holder ordered the IG investigation earlier this year.

“First of all, we wanted to make sure that the investigation into the cause of the death and prosecution was pursued vigorously,” she said.

“And that was being done. I did meet with the FBI agent-in-charge in Arizona at the time. At the time I was told that DOJ was referring the entire matter to the inspector general, so we have reserved judgment until that report has come about.”

Who is Acting DOJ IG Cynthia Schendar?

Foxes guarding the henhouse.

...So just who, one may wonder, is Acting Inspector General Cynthia Schnedar?

Until last January, she was deputy inspector general at the Justice Department, having served in that post since June of 2010. When longtime Inspector General Glenn Fine retired from his post in January of this year, Schnedar, as had been expected, was named as acting inspector general on January 29.

…It turns out that Ms. Schnedar has long and close ties to Mr. Holder. According to her biography on the Justice Department website, she became assistant U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C. in 1994. Eric Holder had become the U.S. attorney in Washington the previous year, so he in effect was Schnedar’s boss from 1994 until 1997, when he left to become President Clinton’s deputy attorney general. Holder would become a key player in the scandalous pardons of fugitive billionaire Marc Rich and members of the Puerto Rican nationalist terrorist group known as FALN.

But during Ms. Schnedar’s tenure before Holder had departed, it happened that they had ended up working a number of cases together.

..In one case, they had represented the ATF. In another, they represented both the ATF and DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration), an agency that has now also been linked to Fast and Furious.

Whenever either Eric Holder or President Obama is pressed on Fast and Furious, both refer to the Justice Department’s internal investigation that happens to be headed by Ms. Schnedar. …In a recently released letter to Schnedar, Issa and Senator Grassley noted that the investigator’s actions had “undermined and obstructed” their investigation.

Napolitano cant continue to play clueless

One of the first fall guys has close connections to her:

Dennis Burke, AZ US Attorney forced to resign amid scandal, cover-up(Aug 201)

U.S. Attorney for Arizona Dennis Burke has submitted his letter of resignation — effective immediately. His resignation comes amid fallout of his knowledge of the ill-conceived and reckless operation that left Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry dead..

Burke an attentive student of and longtime aide to Janet Napolitano, previously served as her Chief of Staff and was appointed to the Arizona U.S. Attorney post by Napolitano’s boss, Barack Obama. His career is now in shambles, though his name was previously mentioned as a possible Democrat contender for several higher offices.

student of the radically liberal Janet Napolitano(oct 2010)

Burke is expanding the office to maximize prosecution of hate crimes — specifically extending protections to those in the “gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community.” Burke is traveling the state holding forums to inform these communities of his efforts on their behalf.

But never fear, his message is not limited to homosexuals. The U.S. Attorney’s Office has also held meetings with members of Phoenix’s Black and Muslim communities, and has more meetings planned with Latino groups and others around the state.

Dennis Burke is a well-tutored student of the radically liberal Janet Napolitano — using his office to give legal aid and comfort to the unrestrained victimization mindset — and all at taxpayer expense

...Napolitano, like Holder, is going to need a good lawyer soon.

Napolitano's job was to spread the word white middle class Americans were likely 'lone wolf' terrorists...(IMHO) The two PSA's she made should be considered evidence.

ATF boys who know something need to come forward and share ...

Even on CNN and CBS, liberal talking heads have openly acknowledged that the "rightwing theory of conspiracy to influence US gun laws" is the only theory that makes sense, "so far."

They keep hoping that some grand excuse or plan is going to emerge where this operation has a more benign origin, but even they can't imagine what it could be.

This Administration made up the drug gang/American gun problem, then set about to make it so by arming the Mexican drug gangs with US guns. And all so they could justify taking away guns from US citizens, so only the government (and the drug gangs) had guns.

For the children.
