Gore links climate change to Great Lakes problems

DETROIT - Former Vice President Al Gore linked climate change to a rash of environmental catastrophes Thursday, from floods in Pakistan to drought in Texas and rampant algae blooms sucking oxygen from Lake Erie.

The fallout from a warming planet is being felt around the world, Gore said in a speech during the annual meeting of the International Joint Commission, which advises the U.S. and Canadian governments on issues affecting shared waterways. Things will get worse unless people reject a campaign of denial orchestrated by the fossil fuel industry and make significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, he said.

I believe that Al enrolled there as an "early out" from Vietnam. Once safely stateside, he abandoned his "studies".

Yeah I know about the ballast water problem, withthe introduction of the zebra mussel, and the newer mussel species clogging our water intakes and growing like little razor blades on nearly every surface near the water.

Illinois DNR hires chef to show how tasty Asian carp can be

It is a stark reminder that the Asian carp infestation that has overwhelmed stretches of river in the Mississippi River basin and is now threatening the waters of the Great Lakes isn’t going to go away anytime soon: The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has hired a Louisiana chef for a made-for-media event this week to demonstrate just how good these fish can be to eat.

It’s part of the Target Hunger Now campaign, a state-sponsored humanitarian effort to turn the jumbo jumping carp into “healthy, ready-to-serve meals” for the needy. The program also provides venison to the poor.

I’ve heard that the asians have a taste for this species of carp, and are willing to pay big bucks for a fresh supply. That doesn’t excuse the invasive species from being introduced into our lakes, but maybe they can be fished to exctinction, sort of like a bounty. I like to fish in the Saginaw Bay, and I would prefer to catch Perch instead of carp.

Funny thing about Al's time 'In Country'.

According to wiki (of all places) it says he was kept away from combat on purpose. That there was fear that if he got wounded or 'worse' it would help his father get reelected to the senate. But daddy Gore lost the race by a good margin anyway so it's doubtful any sympathy votes would have helped him.

Again, this is in wiki of all places. Surprised they haven't scrubbed those parts.
