This is exactly why trusting Newt is suicide for conservatives.

Nancy/Couch anyone?

Those who say, ‘Kick everybody out’ – they’re wrong. Those who say, ‘Give amnesty to everyone’ – they’re wrong. “

Sounds like Newt is bound and determined to sabotage the recent gains he's made with the voters. And no one says the above except a tiny number of extremists and, unfortunately, cowardly politicians who use it to avoid taking a sensible stand such as: enforce the border and enforce the law and allow gradual self-deportation.

I guess Newt just couldn't stand his success in the recent debates.

The article doesn’t day what his “middle path” is.

Anyone who is serious about illegal immigration needs to start their plan with building a complete east-to-west physical fence.

Stop the flow.

Then, anyone who is serious about illegal immigration needs to have a plan for anchor babies.

Stop the loopholes.

Then, anyone who is serious about illegal immigration needs to have a plan to ENFORCE existing hiring laws.

Stop the incentive to enter the country illegally.

Any talk of amnesty of any type is really a fourth-tier priority. It makes no sense to showcase a candidate’s policy on amnesty when the candidate is unwilling to consider how to stop illegal immigration from getting worse.

The immigration laws in this country, like the tax laws, are in need of a major overhaul. Enough with fiddling around the edges and adding layers upon flawed layers. Time to scrap it altogether and start fresh.

In explaining immigration laws in this country I've equated this country to being a membership warehouse store filled to the rafters with everything you could want. Unfortunately, at the front of the store there is a long line that seemingly goes on forever of people waiting to get their turn at the desk where they will have to fill out endless forms and pay huge fees. While those people wait in line at the front of the store they are looking out and seeing that the back of the store has no wall and people are coming and going as they please and taking what they want. There is definitely a problem at the back of the store that needs to be fixed first, but there is also a problem at the front of the store that also needs to be addressed. Personally, I would like to see a point system as used in some countries. Fluent in English? Points. Have a university degree? Points. Degree is in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics? Bonus points. Family? Points. Criminal history? Minus big points. Previous immigration violator? Minus big points. Total up the points and if meet the minimum points necessary to qualify then you can come apply to enter. Should be able to check online from anywhere in the world if you can emigrate.

What is this middle path? Build a fence only half high, or perhaps half a fence, similar to the Maginot Line.

Let’s take him up on it. Let’s give the illegals half the benefits their currently receiving. Oh, and only half the votes they’re currently casting.

Pie in the sky, Newt.

Decades of open borders has made your 'recommendation' impractical and implausible.

“In the end, we must be a country in which everybody who is here is here legally."

How is that going to happen when some 20 million plus are here illegally and you say we can't boot them out and can't give them all amnesty?

==

Politi-speak, Newt. You are trying to have it both ways. And that is NOT a solution.

being illegal is like being pregna,t you are or you ain’t. can’t be a little bit pregnant, and you can’t be a little bit illegal.

the laws you break may be more serious than others, but illegal is as it says. illegal.

how can you promote respect for the law when you yourself only respect some laws and not others?

Just when Newt was getting a bit of traction...

How about offering in-state college tuition too, while you’re at it?

Illdgal immigration is partly thr politition’s fault. If Newt would have taken the real middle ground and said he wants to turn off the damn magnet, then I would have agreed with him.

Yes, Newt, I was wrong. I should have said kick every illegal out along with any politician who panders to them.

wow,

I thought Newt was pretty smart, but I guess he wasn’t paying attention to what caused Perry to implode.

There went Newt’s chances.

It’s Cain or nothing it seems now.

“In the end, we must be a country in which everybody who is here is here legally. And we must recognize that some people who came here legally are deeply embedded in our culture.”

Nobody has a problem with those that came here LEGALLY.
