Zachary Quinto, best known for his roles as Sylar in the TV series "Heroes" and Spock in 2009's Star Trek film, has come out as a gay man. Until now, Zachary has never publicly spoken about his sexual orientation, but opens up about being "a gay man" in a new interview with New York Magazine.
Quinto just wrapped up an eight-month run in the NYC stage revival of "Angels in America", and called the experience an eye-opener. He called his work in the off-Broadway play the "most challenging thing I've ever done as an actor, and the most rewarding."
He added:
"At the same time, as a gay man, it made me feel like there's still so much work to be done, and there's still so many things that need to be looked at and addressed."
Later on in the interview, Quinto discussed same sex marriages and the suicide of bullied gay teen Jamey Rodemeyer.
Quinto continued:
"And again, as a gay man I look at that and say theres a hopelessness that surrounds it. But as a human being I look at it and say 'Why? Where's this disparity coming from, and why can't we as a culture and society dig deeper to examine that?' We're terrified of facing ourselves."
While Zachary has played a series of gay roles, he has in the past refused to comment on his sexuality.
That’s right. I forgot all about that one. Turned out to be a crappy movie.
This comes as quite a shock ...
well the alternate timeline vulcans are really screwed into extinction now.
ST XII the “gay” sequel.
"Going where no man has gone before...." (well, maybe a few)"She cannae take any more Jim!"
"It's not life as we know it at all."
"He's dead, Jim."
Very true.
Well that kind of blows away the whole Vulcan “Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations”...
That explains the new spocks ability to deal with orion slave girls. (but not his prowling of the cadet quarters...)
Do you suppose he is the “boy” or the “girl” in the relationship? It kinda matters if you think about it. Never mind...dont think about it....
This is not exactly news. It’s been known for awhile.
new spock needs a serious education from a nice Deltan woman...
That was Anne Heche....wasn’t it “Six Days, Seven Nights”?
Seriously, this wasn’t much of a secret. He may not have been talking to the media about it, but he wasn’t exactly closeted, either.
Shatner made me laugh when he said: "You're a senior citizen and NOW you come out as gay? If you're gay, be gay!".
LOL......I think their phasers need a “FAB-ulous!” setting. :)
Another day in the life of a queer.
This is news? I had heard this quite a while ago.
In all honesty, before yesterday, I had NO CLUE that ZQ was gay...and I’ve been pretty accurate when the ol’ gaydar goes “ping”. Hell...I suspected Takei was a few degrees off plumb YEARS before he came out.
This one caught me by surprise. My sister says SHE knew. Must be slipping in my advancing age.
DAMN you.....now YOU owe me a new flat panel and laptop keyboard!!!!!!!!.....spewing Pepsi....damn......
