Hello Cheap Energy, Hello Brave New World
Forbes ^ | Oct 17 2011 | Mark Gibbs

Over on Network World where I’ve had a gig as a columnist for about 18 years, my Backspin column I wrote this week about a power generation system called E-Cat that is to be tested on October 28th .

If you’ve missed the recent brouhaha over the E-Cat (which stands for Energy Catalyzer), you’re missing out on a three ring circus over a technology that will either change everything or change nothing because what is promised is, in theory, power too cheap to be worth metering .

What top physicists? The guy from the article you posted yesterday is a psycho-physicist. What is that?

And who is Bob Higgins? Is he really stupid enough to drag the name of his company (supposedly Motorola) into the Rossi scam?

The Unicorn Song
From: Songs of Ireland
words and music Shel Silverstein

A long time ago, when the Earth was green
There was more kinds of animals than you’ve ever seen
They’d run around free while the Earth was being born
And the loveliest of all was the unicorn

There was green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you’re born
The loveliest of all was the unicorn

The Lord seen some sinning and it gave Him pain
And He says, “Stand back, I’m going to make it rain”
He says, “Hey Noah, I’ll tell you what to do
Build me a floating zoo,
and take some of those...

Green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you’re born
Don’t you forget My unicorns

Old Noah was there to answer the call
He finished up making the ark just as the rain started to fall
He marched the animals two by two
And he called out as they came through
Hey Lord,

I’ve got green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but Lord, I’m so forlorn
I just can’t find no unicorns”

And Noah looked out through the driving rain
Them unicorns were hiding, playing silly games
Kicking and splashing while the rain was falling
Oh, them silly unicorns

There was green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Noah cried, “Close the door because the rain is falling
And we just can’t wait for no unicorns”

The ark started moving, it drifted with the tide
The unicorns looked up from the rocks and they cried
And the waters came down and sort of floated them away
That’s why you never see unicorns to this very day

You’ll see green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you’re born
You’re never gonna see no unicorns

Here’s the list of attendees.

The nobel prize winner Josephson could not make it.

All of these guys are smarter than you, smarter than me.

Find out for yourself who Bob Higgins is. I’m sure you’ll find something negative to say about him.

Should we have to find out who's legitimate and who's a fraud like Rossi? Shouldn't that be your responsibility if you want him to have credibility?

Josephson was a brilliant young scientist 50 years ago. He's a fruitcake today.

You're basing your assessment on WHO is giving the presentation, rather than the facts themselves. This is an anti-science position, much like many of your other positions.

What gives you the authority to say who's a fruitcake and who ain't? Your own positions betray your ... fruitcakeness.

Your result for The Which Stupid Creature Are You Test...

You are a Seagull

You are a Seagull... which makes you annoying as all hell. On the bright side you get to eat plenty of chips... just avoid the chip with the asprin inside, cause apparently you can neither burp or fart.

It’s Alka Seltzer, not aspirin, that causes seagull “issues.”

It's basically a c&p from that fun website. That way I don't have to do much HTML.

Your result for How good of a Calvinball player are you?...

Your Grade= A- Good Calvinball knowledge and strategy

54% Game_Knowledge and 78% Game_Skill!

Well done! You are part of the 8.7% of the population that landed in this category.* You placed very well in both knowledge of the game and skill.

You probably have a natural talent in Calvinball and you are clearly no dummy. It seems that you have learned that the trick to doing well in Calvinball is not brute strength, but quick wit. With your natural ability you could go far.

There is however still some room for improvement. You are probably already talented enough to beat Calvin, but it will take some more work before you could defeat the quick-witted Hobbes. Keep reading and practicing, and one day you'll be able to take that tiger down.

* This is a made up number.

You're basing your assessment on WHO is giving the presentation, rather than the facts themselves.

99% of everything you post is copy and pasted from blogs or mailing lists. That doesn't make it factual.

A fact is a fact is a fact.

Rossi claimed a fraudulent degree from a diploma mill.

Rossi was arrested for shady business practices.

Rossi has a blog called the Journal of Nuclear Physics that is not a journal.

Someone did an HTML redirect from an ecat website to give the illusion that a famous venture capital firm was associated with ecat.

Rossi has done nothing more than boil a kettle of water with his ecat demos.

Shall we trade facts, then?

Is it a fact that the Pons-Fleishmann effect has been replicated more than 14,700 times?

Is it a fact that you have not contributed one line to the effort to determine whether Rossi’s results are real or faked?

Is it a fact that you acknowledge coming onto these threads for entertainment, like a typical entertainment troll?

Is it a fact that the Journal of Nuclear Physics was started after Rossi was told that his results were impossible?

Is it a fact that the kettle of water that Rossi supposedly heated up was boiling AFTER the INPUT POWER was turned OFF? (Heat after death)

Is it a fact that the last demo Rossi allowed the device to be weighed, and dismantled to check for hidden wires, tubes or batteries?

What is the Pons-Fleishmann effect and does it include measurement error?

Is it a fact that you have not contributed one line to the effort to determine whether Rossi’s results are real or faked?

I don't have access to the device and Rossi keeps access tightly controlled. I have no way to verify the access that others have had, or whether they are being honest. I approach this as an investor would approach this, and Rossi stinks of fraud.

Is it a fact that you acknowledge coming onto these threads for entertainment, like a typical entertainment troll?

I come on these threads to prevent you from promoting fraud. I do get some entertainment out of it. It's the only way I can put up with your childish behavior.

Is it a fact that the Journal of Nuclear Physics was started after Rossi was told that his results were impossible?

No matter what, it's still a fraudulent representation.

Is it a fact that the kettle of water that Rossi supposedly heated up was boiling AFTER the INPUT POWER was turned OFF? (Heat after death)

We have no way to verify what's going on. It is admitted that it takes a hot plate many hours to heat up the ecat before the water is boiled, whereas a hot plate alone can do the job in minutes.

Is it a fact that the last demo Rossi allowed the device to be weighed, and dismantled to check for hidden wires, tubes or batteries?

I wasn't there. I have no way to verify what was done or wasn't done in an honest manner.

The device is supposed to turn Hydrogen and Nickel into Copper.

Do the math: Hydrogen atomic number 1, atomic weight 1.00794
Nickel AN 28, AW 58.6934
Copper AN 29, AW 63.546

Doesn't add up. The only feasible reaction would yield Cu-59, which is radioactive and simply decays back into nickel.

http://www.nickelinstitute.org/NickelUseInSociety/AboutNickel/NickelMetaltheFacts/DidYouKnowCartoons/Cartoon2.aspx ~ these guys say nickel is the 5th most common element on Earth. Now that’s not an infinite supply but it’ll pass for one.

With the demand for gasoline falling overnight and petroleum becoming needed primarily as feedstock for plastics, the US would immediately become self-sufficient in crude oil. What will happen in the Middle East without the huge flow of cash from the Western hemisphere? How will world politics be changed?

Within 10 years all the "cities" in Saudi Arabia would be pretty much ghost towns. As the money runs out, the foreigners who actually do everything to keep the infrastructure running would bail. The royalty would grab whats left of the treasury and book for some villa in Europe... the rest of the populations would go back to living in tents and humping goats.

That, in itself, would be the most wonderful thing I could think of.

"THERE’S NO INFINITE SUPPLY OF NICKEL"

Yes, but there is more than sufficient known reserves of nickel to last for thousands of years. And once this phenomenon is investigated in depth, I suspect that other materials will be found to possess similar properties.

And there are these things called "nickel-iron" meteorites. With the boost from large quantities of terrestrial energy, we will then be able to access non-terrestrial sources.
