The U.S. Senate unanimously voted in favor of an amendment Wednesday that guarantees zero funding for programs that include the transfer of firearms to drug cartels unless law enforcement continuously monitors the weapons "at all times."
The amendment stemmed directly from Operation Fast and Furious, the controversial botched weapons program, and was introduced by Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas.
During floor debate on Tuesday, Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Subcommittee Chairwoman Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., jumped on board and praised Cornyn's effort to prevent any more programs like the botched "gun-walking" effort that enabled U.S.-purchased weapons to end up in the hands of Mexican drug cartels.
In a rare show of bipartisanship, Mikulski not only commended the Texas Republican, but said she would join with him in getting answers from the Justice Department about what officials at the top knew about the program and when.

“botched”
No, it was NOT.
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
“the controversial botched weapons program”
It was not botched. It went exactly as planned except that it was exposed!
Such measures are meaningless to Obama. Like his "jobs" bill (tax increase), he will find a way around this or just do it via EO.
Remember, Obama "don't need no stinkin' constitution!"
This POTUS and his Just-Us Dept man don’t believe in the law or this nation, and they will ignore Congress when they please.
Would I be wrong if I think this is a good thing? That even Dems are shamed into take the right side? Or is it merely show?
Political cover for Dems. That’s all this is.
The senate votes not to fund anymore programs like this and 90% of the politicians say “That’s good enough for me.”
Thanks, Cornyn, for playing right into their hands....as always.
Now how about a law making it illegal to introduce a bill asking for funding of a program that involves handing over firearms to the custody of a criminal enterprise, even temporarily, other than an immediate buy-bust operation, vote for that funding, or lobby for it, or sign it into law. You can call it gun control.
On the whole, I think it is a good thing. Yes.
Will this have any real effect? Not really, but it keeps the issue in front of the public as Obama is on his bus tour.
The problem was not funding.
The problem is that Congress unconstitutionally shunned its duty, and allows regulatory authority.
This is what they should be banning.
Well, I sure am glad they shut the barn door now that all the horses have escaped and the cows have set fire to the building...
I don't know why we even report or applaud.
There are a thousand other things going on funded by our tax dollars that are equally or more heinous.
One of the Great Truths of life in the U.S.
Thank you for that.
LOL
