(Reuters) - Upstart Republican front-runner Herman Cain on Tuesday came under sharp attack from his rivals at a 2012 debate and struggled to explain his tax reform plan, the signature proposal of his campaign.

Cain, the former Godfather's Pizza CEO who has shot to the top of Republican opinion polls, found himself the target at the CNN-sponsored debate, where his rivals began to take him seriously after believing he would simply fade as time wore on.

I had not heard that before. Thanks for posting what Newts daughter had to say.

Newt Gingrich is my candidate from here on. Not just because of what you posted, but he is clearly the smartest one, and will be able to hit the presidency running. He knows where the skeletons are in Congress, he knows both sides and I believe he can twist arms and get things done right off the bat.

What I want to see him talk more about now, is what he will do.

I am getting just sick and tired of this NEWT CAN'T WIN thing on FR. HE can win.

I wonder why the nomee wanna bees dont turn against the ENEMEDIA.

Start asking the germalists why they dont ask the questions we all know need to be asked!

Ask the ENEMEDIA the questions that we would have them ask! Watch them squirm!

I am sorry at one time I loved Newt, I could forgive the personal scandles. But he has bought into the global warming thing. He is too smart to actually believe it so he is an opportunist.

I can only take so much of this joke debate but one question stood out to me. It was about amending the 14th amendment birthright citizenship clause. Only one got it right perfectly: Bachmann.

Romney : Change the subject (flunk )
Cain : Change the subject(flunk )
Perry : No, don't amend.(flunk )
Bachmann : We don't need to amend the constitution. All we to do is just change the law.(Gold Star for Michelle)

TARP answers were discouraging too. I suspect anyone of these characters would have soiled their pants if they found themselves POTUS in Fall 2008 with that crisis after 8 years of office, and I still say TARP was bad. But what they should have done is to explain how they would have kept the country from getting into that condition in the first place. That would have shown their seriousness on the issue. But I can see seriousness this is not.

Milt has that familiar insipid condescending grin on his smarmy face when the others are speaking, like he is so far above these poor mortals that he has to assume a pose in order to tolerate their presence.

The winner of the evening was barry soetoro, aka barry obama, aka Barry Dunham. I was actually in anguish for poor Rick Perry. The man is not stupid, he is educated, and he is a conservative. But he is just lost in these debate venues. That does not bode well for Commander-in-Chief or Chief Executive Officer of the Republic. I was so sad to witness that man's evening.

The media at Commie News Network were too obvious in their Milt Rominy service tonight. That they want him so badly ought to tell conservatives something very clearly is wrong with Milt Rominy. The enemedia believes he is the most beatable of the field if/when he comes up against their little barry bassturd boy! The media is literally wtting themselves to get the chance to destroy Milt and remove him as an obstacle for their commie-in-chief.

Yup, they both have that smartaleck comdescending grin on their posing faces. They make me sick to look at them.

I had a guy look at me that way one time during a business meeting. I asked to have a private word with him aside from the gathering. When he stepped outside the meeting at the coffee breeak I looked him square in the face and told him that if he ever met my gaze eye to eye ever again with that look, in public or private trying to intimidate me, I would rearrange his dental work to remove the asinine grin. As I finished, I leaned in close, so he could feel my breath since he had begun to shrink in stature and was down to my face level. He was about three inches taller than me, but he got the message. The guy never went anywhere with the company. Apparently others saw the same fool-faced grin and never considered him an equal, much less a superior.

I saw that, what a pathetic display. They all instead gave answers to the meaningless “what do you tell Hispanics” question instead. That little bitch Anderson Cooper couldn’t moderate a sewing circle.

Cain won’t deport illegals or even properly secure the border.

He’s just another crony capitalist out to get as much cheap labor as he can find, preferably from those that can’t speak out about it.

He’s nothing more than a dang traitor out to destroy America for a cheap buck!

RE:”I saw that, what a pathetic display. They all instead gave answers to the meaningless “what do you tell Hispanics” question instead.

Yep, and the answers to that were crap:
I have a great plan to create jobs as POTUS so support me and tell your relatives to all come over the border and have their bables here where all the jobs will be once I am elected.

Bachmann hit a home run on that one.

At least Cain's 'demonized by both sides 9%' goes to illegals too, unfortunately he cant sell it and couldnt answer this question.

I didn't watch the debate. Was it race baiting B.S. about the poor "hispanic" High School honor students not being able to afford college because "their parents brought them here illegally"?

Simple answer:

"Anderson, any person who is unlawfully living in the United States should not special discounted tuition rates that legal American citizens from the other 49 states don't have access to. It has nothing to do with their ethnic background and everything to do with the rule of law. I don't care if their name is Juan Gonzales or whether it's John Smith and they're a WASP from London, England. Illegal is illegal. Both Juan and John can attend our colleges all they want, just not at discounted rates."

You are right, the hidden tax that nobody seems to understand is there, or can really get a grasp on how much it actually is, is the reason the 999 plan is the perfect transition to the fairtax. The other thing nobody is really talking about, but the 999 plan I believe like the fairtax, would have to be a constitutional amendment to work like it is billed, to end the current tax code, it will take an amendment, so as hard as he runs on this plan, it will take more than just congress and senate going along with his idea.

From the transcript

http://archives.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1110/18/se.02.html

“ROBERT ZAVALA, LAS VEGAS RESIDENT: Good evening. Thank you for the opportunity to ask my question. We have 50 million Latinos and not all of us are illegal. What is the message from you guys to our Latino community? “

Gingrich answered and then Cooper asked

“COOPER: Congressman Paul, there’s some Latino voters who believe that some of these strong anti-immigration laws — anti-illegal immigration laws are actually anti-Latino laws. What do you say to them? “

Paul answered and then Cooper moved on asking

“COOPER: Herman Cain, the 14th Amendment allows that anybody born in the United States is an American citizen. Should that change? “

Cain decided to address the generalized BS from the early questions instead and used it as another opportunity to sell his tax plan yet again though at least he didn’t say 9-9-9. Pathetic.

Perry was then asked the same question

“PERRY: Well, let me address Herman’s issue that he just talked about.

COOPER: Actually, I’d rather you answer that question.

PERRY: I understand that. You get to ask the questions, I get to answer like I want to. And Herman talked about —

COOPER: That’s actually a response, that’s not an answer, but go ahead. (I’m a little bitch and I’m scared of you)”

Perry then talked about “the energy industry and this treasure trove that we have under this country”

Then

“COOPER: To the question on the 14th Amendment, do you support repealing the 14th Amendment?

PERRY: No. “

Cooper was too stupid not to rephrase the question like that and Perry to slow to think about that for a second.

Bachmann then was asked the question and gave the good answer

Santorum was then asked the question and he also ignored it

” SANTORUM: I’d like to address the issue that the gentleman brought up, which is, what are we going to say to the Latino community? “

Myth Romney was not one of the ones asked the question.

Cain, Perry, and Santorum were and chose to act like clowns and ignore it. Only MB answered it.

Cain didn't bungle anything on the hostage question. Cooper asked about something Cain answered hours before in another appearance which was not the question Cain believed he had been asked or answered. Cain was clear each time Cooper kept coming back to him: do not negotiate with terrorists.

If anything Cain seemed confused why there was any question about his position which he'd repeated multiple times already.

Cain is also correct, and Santorum admitted as much when he defended prior negotiations and operations, when Cain said we should not second guess Netanyahu's decision. We don't have all the facts available to the Israeli PM.

He did avoid the 14th amendment, a "gotcha" question meant to drive a wedge between Hispanics and the GOP. In a head-to-desk moment, Bachmann took the bait and said "anchor babies."

Fortunately, Cain and Perry did not take the bait, particularly when the question was boiled down for Perry to whether we should repeal the 14th. The press is spinning it generally against the field, "candidates take the 5th," but Perry gave the only sensible answer: NO on repeal.

To boil it all down into something funny,

Question: What should we do about anchor babies?

Cain: 9-9-9.

Perry: Drill for oil.

Santorum: Ban gay marriage.

I didn’t watch the whole thing but on THAT question Bachmann gave the correct answer and Cain/Perry/Santorum refused to answer it all except for Perry’s one word “no” after Cooper rephrased it in crappy manner.
